What really blew my mind was how Well Sean's defense made Izzy's striking unsuccessful & unable to land any flush strikes. I was surprised that izzy didn't make any adjustments & approach things differently/change things up, anything, but Izzy has sorta been stuck in this same fighting approach & it's totally opposite from his style bender name and in my opinion that's the way izzy will find success again is if he reconnects to his Style diversity roots. Utilize all weapons, try whatever unfolds in a fight instead of just sticking to a structured "gameplan" idk... That's just what it seems from the outside looking in.. best of wishes to each guy.

Feel like those teeps exhausted Izzy, on top of the constant movement on the back foot. Even tho most of those kicks weren’t hitting the diaphragm or stomach directly, those kicks (as someone who does MMA) expend all the air out of ur lungs if u aren’t moving w the kicks or taking off some of the heat. It can be exhausting and it def adds up
@Austin123.
@Austin123. Жыл бұрын
Sean was using the teep kicks to prevent Adesanya from planting and throwing hard shots. If you notice everytime he threw them it made Adesanya too close to the cage that he had to move out and reset himself. And Adesanya throws his jabs from the hip whilst Sean is just flicking it out there so he is beating him to the jab and blocking Izzy's.

Sean checking Stylebender’s leg kicks was a game changer. Izzy’s whole game is built around those leg kicks to control distance. If he can’t control distance he screws himself by backing up to the cage too much. He does that to brace for a takedown attempt but if the opponent never actually shoots for a takedown, he is vulnerable to strikes against the cage and that’s what we saw. Izzy backing himself up to the cage and not being able to control distance for his kicks or his counters and Sean pressuring him with a basic 1, 2 combo and teep kick. Izzy wasn’t anticipating not being able to maintain distance but it was all due to his leg kicks being checked.

It seems like Izzy wasn't fully prepared for Sean's fighting style tbh. He didn't really know what to do. I think I saw his coach saying they need to rematch ASAP, so I'm curious about how that would go, and what they'd change.

@@emmanuelmuniz95 wym cope? All I said was that it doesn't seem like Izzy was prepared to fight against Sean. Izzy is one of the best strikers in UFC history and has dominated his division for years against other top middleweights, so to claim he "isn't that great," like Sean Strickland is some formidable foe, is extremely disingenuous. You're just hating. As I said before, it looked like Izzy just didn't know what to do against Sean. He has never looked like that against anyone he's fought, no matter how good they were. Obviously some adjustments need to be made. I'm not sure what it is you disagree with.

@@juliannewman8720 nah, his Philly shell wasn't even that good. I think he was just playing at an awkward range, and his defense was unorthodox enough that, as I said, Izzy wasn't really sure what to do. You know what I think? I think Pereira exposed Adesonyo. The constant pressure and making him backpedal impedes his style and thats what Sean did. He walked him down and dominated him. Point fighting has always been Izzy's strong suit, and by him constantly being on the backfoot and up the cage mitigates his kicks. Edit: To add Sean's style is constant pressure and traps you in the cage, quite similar to Pereira.

There's a good breakdown of how Strickland completely figured him out. Nutshell, when Izzy is orthodox he boxes. When he's southpaw, he kicks. That's how Strickland defended so well. He didn't need to split his focus. There's other things too but that was the most interesting to me

It’s even crazier that he won fair and square. Not by catching Izzy with a shot which is the only way people considered as a possibility for him to win the fight. Just out boxed Izzy on the feet for 5 rounds and dominated him. Not often you see a huge upset like that go to the judges and win by unanimous decision. Good for Strickland

He didn’t even want it bad lol he just loves fighting. He doesn’t care about that belt and never did. Even said the belt didn’t mean anything to him in his post fight interview in the octagon and it’s kinda hard to speak anything but the honest truth of what you are feeling when the adrenaline is so great like I’m those moments. If anything it’s the opposite mentality that got him to where he is. He just really doesn’t care about the bs, keeps his head down and is the same all the time and just likes fighting. The “nothing to lose” mentality got him there. Not the “what can I gain” one.

Lol Round 2 was close enough that most people say it was a 4-1 fight but it definitely wouldn’t be a reach at all to say Sean won 5-0. I just can’t see a world in witch Izzy won round 3… people saying otherwise were paying too much attention to “significant strike” totals in each round that popped up on screen. Because they were counting Izzy’s leg kicks as “significant strikes” even when Sean was checking probably about 80% of them… but they’d still count them anyway for reason.

#2 upset in ufc history imo. Serra GSP still #1 for me. It's #3 in mma overall. Werdum beating Fedor is still a bigger upset to me
