Excellent video, and a great hike. I did it today, following all the advice of the Wandering Woodsman. It was slightly over 8 miles from parking lot to parking lot. Warning: be extremely careful coming down the Knauber Trail in Autumn after the leaves drop. Even with hiking poles, I slipped continuously on the thick layer of leaves covering the rocks...and fell twice, breaking one of my poles.

I loved watching this tonight. I have many boulder fields on my land with a stream that found its way to my home. We used to swim and picnic somewhere in stoney valley

Now-a-days the PA Game Commission officers will fine you and everyone present for both of those wholesome activities.

Did you ever make a trail directly to the Race Course?
@nfpcommissioner4 жыл бұрын
I hiked it today, and there were two blazed trails leading to the Devil's Racecourse. The first was red which took you to the northern end of the DRC, and a yellow blaze led to the midpoint of the DRC. Great hike and video!
@nfpcommissioner4 жыл бұрын
correction: the red blaze leads to the eastern end of the Devil's Racecourse.

There are enough trails leading to it already. Doesn't need more.

Please give me directions to this parking area in the video. I have tried to find it 3 times now :(

The parking area is along route 325 in Clarks Valley, the same paring area for the Appalachian Trail. It is west of the Harrisburg resovoir and just a bit west of the carsonville road

The Wandering Woodsman thank you! Hahaha, I was actually there yesterday but I went straight instead of to the left. Ughhhh, I'm going back today. Thank you for replying back :)

@@lowdertravis09 It's almost exactly 5 miles from the parking lot to the Devil's Racecourse...then 3 more miles back the way the video shows.

Not in Stony Valley. On top of Stony Mountain, between where Stony Mt splits with Sharp Mt. It shows up in a google map search.
@JamesRobertSmith6 жыл бұрын
Similar to the Devil's Marbleyard in Virginia. Not as massive, and the boulders are not as large as in VA.

Very good video of your hike. I discovered the Racecourse a few years ago, and consider it of the finest hikes around. Re: your location when you entered the boulder field, you said you were 45 min from where you started Rattling Run Road: my recollection is that the Racecourse starts about 10 min from where you crossed the bottom end where the creek is loudest. There is a marking along the north side of the road which says "B.F." in orange, with some blazes which is a semi-trail to take you in. A while further along is a second similar designation. Also, there is a shortcut across the top of Stony Mtn from the AT which saves distance, but not time: it takes you due south to the boulder field.(it starts where the AT levels out about 2/3 the way up the mtn--red blazes I think) Anyways, thanks for posting this video--I felt like I was there again hiking it! Happy Trails....

Thanks for the info. I've been up there several times and I don't remember seeing any of those trails. A number of the older trails up there are disappearing, they don't get cleared or reblazed.
