The PA Wilds is by far the most beautiful and special place in Pennsylvania. Its truly an awesome, huge area of countless recreational opportunities. Deep woods, dark skies, and gorgeous scenery. Its the last and only connection we have to the vast undisturbed landscapes that once existed throughout the commonwealth. Truly a remarkable treasure to be appreciated and protected...

Greetings from Maine. You're getting into our old stomping grounds!!! Next trip take 414 from 44 north towards the village of Cedar Run, check out the village and then get back on to 414 for a very short distance and jump onto Leetonian Road to Painter-Leetonia road and follow it up through the canyon country to Colton Point State Park. There are literally dozens of trails through the woods up that way with many of them connecting to the West Rim Trail, which is also the northern terminus of the Mid-State Trail. You can explore a lot of that area without getting out of your car. Excellent camping just about anywhere with miles and miles of trails to follow. You should start seeing Bald Eagles around Slate Run (village) heading north on 414 and around the PA Grand Canyon you should see lots of them. If you follow Burdick Run trail to the West Rim trail there is a water falls and there should be a ladder taking you part way down the falls. From there is a stone ledge (be careful, it's unlikely you would survive a slip and fall) that leads to a trail that will take you to the bottom of the canyon. Absolutely beautiful, but again, be careful. Everywhere up there is really nice, all of the trails are good. Loads of campsites along the trails.

I spent the last half of 2017 working all over eastern PA. First in Harrisburg in June and July. I got to watch the 4th of July fire works on the lawn of the American Legion headquarters across the Susquehanna from Harrisburg, just an awesome thing to see. My friend lives in a very historic town, York. I seen the house shaped like a shoe first. LOL then he played tour guide. We went to Ricketts Glen something every person on earth should see, Gettysburg a place every American should see. I then worked in Allentown- Bethlehem, Tannersville, Tobyhanna, Wilkes-Barre, and Scranton. Found many unique things to see like the look out above Scranton, beautiful in late July early August, The Tubs coming gown the mountain into Wilkes-Barre. I could go on and on. I spent 6 months in Eastern Pennsylvania. I fell in love PA, and this channel. From St. Louis, Mo Missing the mountains and trails, and history.

Hi Cliff, I think you were right in that a few of the parks were for either camping or skiing, still pretty in their own right, if it's hiking that is a persons interest such as yours though they are not really the right places to hike. Thank you for sharing, at least it gives other people an idea as to what they look like and what to expect, much love. xx💖

Rt 44 from Pine creek to Haneyville is one of my favorite rides. Following the creek and the when the roderdenran is blooming .Going down the Mt in fall when the leaves turn is beautiful. Rt 44 is one best rides from Jersey Shore to Rt 6 one of the most scenic rides in the state. The park use to have rest room just below where your car is park. There several more tables . There was a bridge across the creek with a pavillion on the hillside. I stopped there till they did away with the restrooms.

Cherry Springs used to have a winter festival with all sorts of displays, demos, hot food, horse-drawn sleigh rides and the famous Kamikaze Canoe ride where one can take a canoe ride down a snow covered hill. What fun! The winter festival is now held somewhere else (forget the name). It's a shame about Denton Hill....we used to go tubing there when they were in full operation. It is only a mile from the Lodge where we stay. In May, a few of us hiked from the ranger station just west of there tour Lodge. Those cabins arr cute. The Lumber Museum is fantastic. Maps for the trails can be picked up at the ranger station. Lyman Run shortcut: go east on Rt. 6, turn right on Thompson Road and then left at the T. Lyman Run will be to your left.

You missed Hyner View and Hyner Run St Parks but you can get to them off Rt 120 and then drive to Kettle Creek St Park just north of Rt 120. Further west on Rt120 to Rt872 go north to Sinnenmahoning St Park. They have a Elk vieving area, To really see Elk drive on west to Benezette on Rt 555 where there is hugh population of Elk. Further north on Rt872 above town of Austin is the ruins of a Concrete Dam at gave way and drown @ 100 people in Austin and the other villages below it.. The dam was built before they used rebar to re-enforce concrete. Cherry springs has a Lumbermen's Festival every Aug, why large parking area. Denton Hill Ski area has been closed for the last 2-3 years. The Pa Lumberman's Museum is right across from it

Wow Cliff, thank you for taking me back to my younger years as I spent a lot of time in Potter county and even lived there for 6 years. Just west of the ski run about 1 1/2 miles west at Potato City is the highest point on US Route 6 east of the Rocky mountains at 2,424 feet above sea level. That is also where the Gateway trails to the Susquehannock State Forest are. Those tails take you to where you are camping at Lyman Run State Park. A long hike through some very wild terrain. Potter Counties highest point is in the northeastern part of the county near Ulysses. "Baily Hill at 2580 feet" the military had a radar station there until the 1960's which was used mostly for training as the terrain was similar to the Black Forest in Europe which is why parts of northern Pa was called the "Black Forrest of Pennsylvania".

I was at Cherry Springs SP on the July 4 weekend and that smallish camping area you were at was packed. And there were no fireworks in the area because there are no houses. Tons of people were in that parking area which was funny because the moon was out and sky was not clear. Potter County was in the yellow for COVID and lots of people headed there for some normalcy. That 5 acre park with the creek was cool. Not far from Cherry Springs is the Grand Canyon of PA which is pretty neat.

If you ever get back up there you have to check out some of the vistas that you passed along the way on Rt. 44 outside of Waterville. There is Bull Run Road which has 4 vistas along it. Then up in Haneyville there is Sinking Spring Vista and Lebo Vista. I filmed them for my channel in July as well as Kinzua Bridge State Park in Mt. Jewett. From what I am told Cherry Springs State Park is the darkest location on the east coast.

Denton Hill is the one state park used for skiing. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a concessionaire willing to run the place for a few years now. So it basically sits empty most of the year except for a picnicker or two. And you can camp at Prouty Place if you get a permit from the State Forest Office. It has a really nice native brook trout stream flowing through it.

Originally from Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania has hundreds of natural state parks in addition to the Allegheny National Forest. Gallitzin (near Altoona), Morain (near Newcastle), Raccoon State Park (West of Pittsburgh) to name only a few. We have never been to a bad state park in PA. Sadly, the old and decayed steel mill towns are the only negative in PA. That means that 99% of the state is exceptional.
