What you have created is absolutely amazing. In Germany there is a saying: "What is a hobby? The greatest possible effort with the least possible benefit!" Really brilliant, huge respect to you. Greetings, Thomas

This is truly amazing - I fly VR, and certainly do not have the skills to do anything like that...But I would like the CDU similar to yours - for the tactile feel, and for the F-keys. Could you somehow share how that unit is made in more detail??

Hello, I just discovered your videos, I am very impressed, admirer of your tenacity in such an ambitious project. Indeed, I am building a cockpit, a mix at my convenience, and that is why I allow myself to intervene about a possible video of open panels ... as desired above ... my curiosity will focus on the CDU ...;) In any case, a big thank you for sharing, great video, very clear, and really encouraging on the rendering of a cockpit diy an attentive subscriber ... Hopefully you'll see this question, where did you get the keyboard keys from? I'm trying to source some small keys, but can't find anything smaller than a standard keyboard.
@katyashikova74173 жыл бұрын
I have downloaded your .zip with all the files in it, and the CDU appears to not match wat is in this video. The panel with the "keyboard" is not present in the .zip file. Is that an oversight or is it not available? I am asking as I am building a Space Flight Sim Cockpit, and your Warthog Project has been a huge resource for myself and my father who is helping me with this this. Thank you in advance for your answer and assistance, and I love the cockpit you have built so far (2021 videos and images)

Incredible project. I’m looking to build a more “universal” panel in Mil style rather than just reprinting yours- May I please ask, what font size did you use around the switches on the electrical power panel?

Truly fantastic work Ray. I think having a bigger CDU screen is great, I always like information well presented and clear. I like the use of one main PSU which is incorporated into the console itself. To just have 2 USB cables and a few other bits running to the console is very tidy and the console itself is within a very neat footprint. Quite a mix of interface types you have used, I purposely used several too, so I can learn more about different methods and not be dependent entirely on one. I like the small switch for the PSU, gauge lightposts and the USB outlet, nice touches. Did you mention that the lighting panel dials control the hardware only and not the level of lighting within the sim? if so, have you thought of using a dual / multiple gang potentiometer so it can do both. Great work, thanks for sharing.
@thewarthogproject6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Craig. I have a mix of interface cards, mostly because i started this before Arduino and DCS BIOS was a thing! The Leo Bodnar cards are my favorite- easy to use and I've never had any issue with any of them. I had thought about multi gang pots for the lighting panel, but ended up not bothering considering I never actually fly with the 3D pit enabled anyway. I may change that in a few years anyway if I go the VR route.

You appear to be some kind of demigod. Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna start a project with a CDU that will also hopefully work as a UFC in the Hornet. What kind of screen did you put in it?

Hey mate, loving the vids. Anything you can point to for someone just starting out? I'm just aiming for a small box with a few buttons/switches for a start.
@thewarthogproject5 жыл бұрын
I began with an A10 electrical power panel in a box, and it evolved from there. Just pick a panel that has controls you use a lot (or make up your own generic one) get an Arduino and a few switches and start soldering. That's how I started, and it just never stopped!
@mattymerr7013 жыл бұрын
How did you get the dimensions for all the different modules? I've been trying to search for them for ages but obviously my google-fu isn't good enough. I would base my designs off yours, but as you said, you've made a couple changes to make it easier and also I have different machines for production so I'll probably have to make my own changes to the designs too haha
@tylermoore27645 жыл бұрын
Ive been following your channel for the past few days. Over the last few years, ive looked all over the internet at simpits for the A10C. Above all, this is not only the most authentic I've seen, but also the cleanest. You have done quite impressive work here. Like you, i started with a Ubutto and its not cutting it. I want to incorporate pieces here and there to build up my simpit over time. The main issues are A.) Panel prices are outrageously overpriced online. B.) I need to learn the wiring and programming aspect of the microcontrollers and the software to pair DCS. Do you have a resource for where you learned how to utilize these microcontrollers, or did you learn this through trade? Also, is there any chance of you building out and selling some of the panels you've made? I would definitely purchase a few of them from you.

So I am a teenager and this is really cool and I want to try to make one for myself. However I have no idea where to start or even how to connect switches so I can use them in my computer. Any advice or help?
@DingleFlop4 жыл бұрын
Those boards in the description (Leo Bodnar and the GroovyGameGear one) are really easy to wire up. You'll need some skills to build up the cockpit the way he did, but as far as the switches and rotary encoders (spinny ones) they are really easy to wire to the board which has instructions, and just plugs in to USB. It shows up to the computer as a joystick, and from there it's really easy to map it in games. If you'd like some more pointers you can comment back on me and I'll get us setup to chat on Discord.

The resone the 5in screen is cheaper is because when they are making a screen they have a pig basically screen sheet and they cut whatever size screen they need from that so making a little tiny screen makes it so you can make a huge screen because of the little tiny chunk taken out so if you have a 60in sheet and take out 3 in you can only make a 55in screen and then you have two inch of wasted space when you could have zero of wasted space

Hi... I expected customized PCBs for each panel.... that way it would be so easy to replicate.... the jungle of wires is a nightmare.... ! How do you expect to ever repair it if anything fails ???
@thewarthogproject5 жыл бұрын
If I were fabricating my own PCBs costs and design time would be ten fold. This is a one off build- i have no intention to replicate it. Plus- It's been going for nearly 4 years with only one switch failure, and that was very easy to replace because it wasn't soldered to a PCB...
@DingleFlop4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I do custom PCB design for some of my projects, but that's ONLY for volumes of 50-200 at LEAST. It costs a ton to be wasteful and do 1 offs with PCBs. To answer your question though, "With a soldering iron"

Hey! so i have finally started my project of a viggen cockpit :D Starting with one panel at the time :D I am starting with the nav/data panel. but love watching your videos over and over ^^ Can you make a video of how you make/choose the correct rotary switches. do you make the panel engraving as close to real as possible or do you make every "postion" of the rotary switch on the panel. for example if you take the steer pt switch, you have the same distance between the different options (1=flt plan, 2=mark, 3=mission) , but on some switches (in the viggen for example) the distance between options is sometimes 1-2-3-5. On your warning light box, is that just a bunch of led in a enclosed behind each warning? (is it costum built glass or engraved with the lasercutter, or is it just glass with some sticker behind? :P Again love your videos and your project :D
@Creedarn4 жыл бұрын
just saw that you had 2 leds behind each square, but is the glass/plexi just engraved or like i wrote is it costum ordered.
@epremeaux5 жыл бұрын
This is insane. ;) Im hoping for a video soon on the CDU. Did you build it yourself, or order a modified version from PC-flights (seems there are many CDUs for sims, but thats the only one that looks like yours.) The PC-flights one does NOT include backlight or even functional buttons.. talk about DIY
