The diy co2 system is $6 on Amazon right now (same as yours), Tailonz Pneumaitc selenoid is $11. I also recommend you to get a better needle valve (Rhinox copper needle valve is a good choice). You can also get citric acid online for $70 50 lb. I've had it for about a year, lasts on average 2 weeks 1.5 - 2 bps, 50 gallons. I have 20+ kinds of plants, including red ones. It works pretty good.

Your bottles should be fine, they are tested to around 150psi which is round about 10bar pressure. I would imagine the tubing would blow off first!

I'll set it up for a number of bubbles in the bubble counter then ill check it an hour later the number of bubbles will be different. is it that the thumbscrew is broken or do i need some sort of pressure regulator? thanks in advance
@TheWaterBox

You have to keep fiddling with it. The problem is they aren't always built the same. But it's DIY, you can get away with a higher then normal 1BPS kind of flow. It's also the beast of the nature with dealing with DIY Co2. The pressure will lessen as the pressure is less i the bottles over time.

Once you turn off the valve at night, is it necessary to lift the needle valve, from citric acid mixture.Some say taking out the needle valve stops the reaction and you have to prime the mixture the next day.Please explain.
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 3 жыл бұрын
Well, if you HOSE (I'm assuming that's what you meant) from the citris acid bottle, then yeh, it stops the reaction since the acid can't get into the other bottle to react. And if you do that, yes, you'll have to repime it the next day because the pressure stopped pulling the acid into the other bottle.

My question is, do I Have to open air pump after using co2 in w/c I see the fish gasping for an air. Or not to use the pump for the Co2 I inject will lose. Pls help if I’m doing it right.
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 6 жыл бұрын
I'd use it while the co2 is going. The air pump doesn't "inject" o2 into the tank. It helps create surface agitation in the tank to promote oxygen exchange and you want that so you don't gas your fish.

@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 2 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't have to. You don't want to. The reaction is paused when you close the needle valve. When you open the valve back up, it'll start the reaction where it left off. The only time you want to shake the bottle is when you are mixing a new batch.

Does the needle point have to exactly be in the green zone to be considered primed? I've done it myself using the exact same measurements of Citric acid, baking soda, and water too. What happened on my end was that the needle spun just a little past the green zone but not very far off at all from the green zone (steady at the 2.20 mark)

I dunno. I don't know if you'd want too unless you double the size of your bottle too. Don't quote me on this and I'm guessing but doubling up on the mix might double up on the pressure too. I dunno though. You'd have to research that or asking done else who's tried it or looked into it. I don't go the diy co2 route anymore. Its either passive like the Fluval 20g kit set up or pressurized or no co2 at all. Depends on set up of the tank.

I never had a problem with the pressure inside the bottles. Neither does Pepsi or coca cola or other soda companies. I dunno what the max pressure on a sealed bottle is but on a diy system, it's not completely air tight.

@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 4 жыл бұрын
You should be fine. Soda bottles don't fail until over 7 kg/cm2. Your hoses split or pop first but typical vinyl hoses can at the minimum stand up to maybe 4 (depends on type and make). Most likely will pop out of it connection first if anything but you still go a ways to go. If you're still worried, just let a bunch of the co2 out in one go.

Hello, I've read that this kind of system (citric acid + baking soda) tries to maintain an equilibrium. Reaction in bottle B adds pressure to both bottles and when there's enough pressure in bottle A, it send more citric acid to bottle B, and the cycle continuous. My question is, isn't the cycle just going to continue and the pressure will build up even when the line going to the the tank is shut off? I am currently doing the sugar-yeast method but it runs out far too quickly and and I could not shut it off, so I am thinking of switching to this mix. Thanks!
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 4 жыл бұрын
You just answered you own question. When the Bottle A pressure gets higher than B then it send the acid over. But if you stop pressure from escaping from B, then it'll always be pressurized higher then in A. Besides, a bottle can handle 1200 psi of pressure. Your DIY contraption or tubes will pop before the bottle does. Might leave a wet mess though (more if you don't have a one way air vavle).
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 4 жыл бұрын
To clarify, when shut off, the pressure will build to the point where both bottles will have equal pressure so nothing is moving into either bottle. That initial build up before it stops isn't enough pressure to go beyond 1200 pounds.

Thank you for responding! I get it now, the key word is equilibrium! When the solenoid shuts off, neither bottle will be able to send anything to the other, wether the gas from bottle B or citric acid from bottle A!

I guess make sure you have the mix right. DIY Co2 rarely every kills kills fish. The concentrationg isn't pure enough, especially in larger tanks. In smaller tanks it can happen easier but again, rare. More important is not getting the mix into the tank itself. Again, rare. You have to do something really stupid like squeezing the bottle on purpose into the tank. MAYBE if the bottle tip over so there's that.

Go for it. Can't hurt to do it. Just make sure you've got the flow to move the co2 around. It's not that you can't do it. It'll work. It's just a pain in the butt to do it and not as efficient. I dont understand, if im doing something wrong, or some how to much citric acid goes into soda after the pressure drop. Im a bit scared it will blow up if im not around and check it time to time. Plus, when this happens, my bps changes it rises a lot if the pressure increases and goes down if is pressure drops. Does any one else got this problem? Im confused why is this happening. My connection is aluminum but working same as the one in video. With solenoid valve and bubble counter. I mixed new batch 3-4 days ago, yesterday evening I checked it and the acid bottle was empty. I made a new one today, mixes citric acid with 700ml of water, to decrease the reaction just in case, so i did the reaction for 15 min to rise up to 1 kg. and waited for it to stop, ok, and two hours later it was up to 3kg and rising. Like wtf. This has happened at night once, even when co2 was off. Any help or ideas would be helpful. I thonk the problem is that too mutch citric acid goes into the soda bottle, but im not sure what to do to stop that happening.
