The garments you present are uniquely beautiful. I love that you tell us the history of the garment, describe the finely crafted features and materials of quality tailoring, and show pictures of the people who wore the outfit. I'm fascinated and entranced, basically hanging on your every word. I am also in the club of people who truly appreciate the research, work and care you put into your videos. Thank you.

Yes, Gianni Versace was one of a kind and on his days he was on top of the world! I remember in 1987 he made a black column dress with an off white top piece that was to die for. Thanks for creating this channel and share so much great content!

Beautiful video. Thank you. I thrifted a jean vest with silk lining, this summer. For now it’s my only Versace piece but it’s very dear to me. My personal style is not as loud but there is a certain magic to wear a beautifully crafted piece of clothing that is rare and unique.

As a historiographer and wannabe fashionista (and with several historical fashion classes under my belt), I appreciate the detail you presented! As a personal note, I have been wearing his original perfume, Gianni Versace for Women, since I got my first sample in 1981-82. A friend was the Southwest Merchandising Editor for Vogue Magazine, and she brought me several samples. I LOVE that fragrance, and try and find it at a decent price now on Ebay. No fragrance that Donnatella has released can hold a candle to his original. I find it interesting that he had created a fragrance within 4 years of launching his own fashion house. That is power.

Gianni Versace actually never said he dressed Mistresses. The famous quote was, *“Armani dresses the wife and Versace dresses the mistress.”* It was written by the famous Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

@Joan In Florida Meryl Streep knows that her character Miranda Priestly is based on Anna Wintour. You should watch this video at 1:05 m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/moiXqKN9nJtnpqc Anna Wintour has been working for Vogue for over 30 years so she knows how to write a good line. That's why Miranda Priestly had some of the best lines in the movie because she's based on Anna Wintour. LOL!

I saw the thumbnail & started giggling! From the twinkle in your eyes, I knew we were in for a real treat! Once again, thank you for the history lesson. I had always wondered how Versace seemed to appear from nowhere overnight. What an incredible collection you've collected! I was relieved to see the very fine tulle used as a base for the beading. It's much easier to bead with a hook from the back using a chain stitch when you can see thru the fabric. So much easier & forgiving than the traditional couching method. The only downside is with a snag, you will lose a whole row of stitching & beads. That also makes the repairs easier too though. I couldn't pick a favorite this week. They are all so wonderful in their own way. The one I'd most like to touch tho is the "not your daddy's" chainmail dress. So incredibly fluid. Just the juxtaposition of a slinky fabric made from cold, hard metal - I'd have a hard time not playing with it.

I didn’t know Versace designed for Genny. When I worked at Bullocks Wilshire I bought a $1,300 long silk crème gown for $130. I gave it to FIDM with my $900 Versace grey leather pants. I loved those pants. They were 80s era full through the thigh and a high wide suede waistband. I had lots of fun working his AIDS Project Los Angeles benefit runway show.

Thank you for this Doris! You’re always talking about how vintage is both a lucrative AND sustainable enterprise. I’d love to see some pieces you own that have been reused, repurposed or recycled! What designers do you know of who champion this way of making (Ex. Christopher Ræburn, Bethany Williams)?

Doris, do you have any garment from Prince's wardrobe? I think he was a master of the personal adaptation of fashion trends into his own style, and always wore his own custom made clothings. Absolutely exclusive outfits. I think he is one of the most interesting cases to analyze when it comes about fashion and look. He never got he attention he deserves in that stuff, and he always dressed as any other person in the world.
