Fun fact: some western invaders actually branded the Kris/Keris a "coward's weapon," mainly due to it being often used after being dipped with poison, and the carving on the Keris work to both house the poison and cause bleeding. The wavy part of the Kris was actually more on the ornamental thing than as a weapon. In some places, the waves and the decors of the Keris symbolizes one's social status, with the more wavy it has, the higher the person is in rank. The straight Keris were used more often in battles or warfare, and were the go-to weapon for local assassins. The sword counterpart of the Keris is called a Sundang, a sword with the looks of the Keris. And a Keris was said to be able to stand vertically with its tip to the ground by balance alone, which was the hallmark of a skilled blacksmith. The Keris was prominent in the SEA at a time thanks to Silat, with its practitioners were far and wide, from the ordinary civillians all the way to the head being the Kings and Sultans. To sum things up, the era of the Keris being the mainstream back then was equivalent to the time when Japan had Samurais here and there, and gunslinging Cowboys were still a thing in the wild, wild West.

And it was far away from our home (for indonesian, i live in bogor and the person's house is in klaten). And no one in our house nor the person ever met in person ever again. Yet suddenly, out of nowhere it came right back to my grandpa closet. We tried getting rid of the thing again multiple times but failed. My great grandfather had one of the Keris tho,we are actually descendants of Minangkabau people in Malaysia so paranormal stuff do happened quite often since most of us have 'guardian' for centuries or we call it Saka in a form of a tiger. So in relation to the keris is the Saka actually attached to it,and we do have to constantly sharpening it using some kemenyan (im not sure what's the name of it in english prolly incense) and lime. But there are cases which the Saka would requires some form of more extreme ritual including blood etc. If it's not being done, the Saka inside Keris would run amok. So in the end my late grandfather & his bro couldn't handle so they decided to let it go since there's no one could handle it. If it's mishandled & without enough knowledge it could be fatal.

@@viperhunt95Sure, there are also keris in Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore, but you can't deny that the origin of the keris was first recorded in the Taji Ponorogo inscription in the 10th century AD, the word "keris" itself was also taken from the sentence "Mlungker Mlungker Kang Ngiris "Where this sentence is taken from Javanese Language, Mikir.

The concept of a whip sword is horrifying, I definitely wouldn’t want to be on the business end of that thing

Keris. If you are ready, you can tame a spirit from somewhere (with the help of someone who has that ability) and "put" the spirit on the Keris as its soul, with some terms, of course

My uncle has several keris that he said he inherited from either our ancestors or someone else. Sometimes they make rattling sounds inside the cupboard where he stores them
