@@Star737_yt It's probably because of the blowing snow. In the north, the wind blows so hard that when you start to mix snow with wind, it can cause extreme whiteout conditions. But at night, if you have the same type of conditions, it can cause a blackout condition, the same type of conditions that when you have a wildfire with blowing embers and smoke in the Western United States.

The ice storm of 1998 here in Eastern Ontario was even worse than that. Power poles snapped from nothing other than the extra weight of the ice buildup on the lines. Trees coming down on the wires everywhere added to the problem. Even huge transmission towers were buckled and collapsed from the ice on the cables. People were burning downed power poles for heat because there was no power to run furnaces or electric heaters.

I experienced this last year. Roads were a sheet of ice, electric power lines covered in ice and snapping just like he said.. it was insane!

Exactly. When I saw this video I was reminded of the blizzards Nova Scotia gets sometimes. We don't get icicles that dangerous but everything frozen over does look like that.

@@LizardLeliel We've had ice storms with the icicles in southern Ontario. Not every winter, but we get them. What I love is all the people with SUV's and pick-up trucks think 4 wheel drive will overcome the ice. They're mostly the people sliding down hills and smashing into shit at the bottom of the hills. This is why their insurance is higher. 4 wheel drive and snow tires don't give them the magical abilities they think they do.

@@runningfromabear8354 TBH, riding on snow tires with nails is as if there wasn't any ice. Snow on top of ice is deadly with any tire and car though. It's even hard to drift in a parking lot for fun because it's too unevenly slippery.

It could’ve shocked him. The lines may be energized around the pole. Stay at least 40ft, because if you’re standing where Jim Cantore is in the video of the Enhanced Fujita scale, “you’re way too close, WAY TOO CLOSE.”

I remember the Minnesota we had that ice storm years ago. It was crazy how many trees were taken down purely from ice. The power was also out for like a week
