It's awesome that it has worked so well and that insurance covers it! We've had one broken ipad too, with our older daughter. Our younger daughter is doing really well with PECS and it makes me wonder how she would do with something like this! Awesome video, thank you for sharing!
@TheWeeFamily5 жыл бұрын
Braylee started with PECS but it wasn’t ideal long term and as she grew and learned more it became a not very practical thing for her to use and carry around unfortunately.

Thank you for sharing! 3:06 - 5:08 This is where we are right now with our 10 year old son who cannot speak, but makes noises. He always points his finger at what he wants and drags us to it. We are in the process of using his speechcomputer more, but we (him and us) don't really lke that computer he has right now. It's a locked down Windows Tablet, with a custom designed speechprogram we cannot add things to ourselves; that's what someone at school does. And he is used to iPad speed and weight. That speechcomputer weighs a ton and is really thick. We also make more daily use of PECS to organize our/his day, which helps and is easier to adapt to. We do think a speechcomputer can be overwhelming by the number of subcategories and the sheer number of icons. Too bad that app costs €279,- with no trial period. It would be nice to see if it is as good or hopefully better than his speechcomputer and most important; if he likes it and WANTS to use it, which is most important, next to functionality. We want to give our son a voice.

I hope you find what works best for him soon! We have used a different program before but likes this one better. The iPad and software were covered by insurance for her. We will be sharing on Instagram and Facebook stories the software sales going this week since October is AAC awareness month.

I hope Braylee feels better soon!!! Thank-you for sharing her communication device. For Autism Awareness Day we have our Autism flag flying in front of our house, our porch light is blue and we will all be wearing blue. Did you get my video to work? I will get you another video tomorrow, maybe I can get his OT's involved.(Another fave thing about Autism is the team of people who want the best for my son.)

Love your channel!! I’m a para and my student uses Pro, once he learned how to navigate it was a game changer for how he can communicate.
@TheWeeFamily5 жыл бұрын
That’s great! She dabbles with it but she just isn’t highly motivated to use her talker thus far. 😕 she’s had a speaking device of some sort for the past 3 years.
@johnsoncas195 жыл бұрын
He has had it the past two years but only started really using it this school year, and a few weeks ago he started “talking” (word approximation) so using them in conjunction with each other is helpful.
@johnsoncas195 жыл бұрын
Also, using highly motivating rewards is helpful. Ex: touch “food” and gets that food item helps. My little guy likes squeezes so, I would give him a quick squeeze with a super positive response when he navigates to the correct item/folder.

Couple of things, 1st. Muffins are the best! 2nd, I never can get my head around the insurance system over in the states. Just makes my head hurt. Anyway, Hope Braylee feels better and I need one of the bus tees just rad.

Muffins are a favorite of hers, but only certain ones of course haha. You are not alone, insurance here makes MY head hurt also. She’s on the up and up. The bus tees are great!

I'm with you, Braylee. I've been sick for a good while, thanks to the flu that Jonathon and I gave to each other. What an unexciting weekend! Sorry Wees! Hope my Braylee beauty feels better soon. I'm not good with videos, and I don't personally know anyone with autism … until now. I can't wait to see that video, though. Take good care, Wees. :) I'll be buying merch soon, but I may have to ask for help if my screen reader gets in to trouble. :)

@TheWeeFamily5 жыл бұрын
She does not play video games yet. I’m not sure she would understand how to use the controls or have the hand eye coordination/motor planning or whatever goes into that to do it. She plays little games on her tablet/devices.
