Bill. Nice pickup on the voyager reference - voyager definitely an inspiration. Thanks for your support! Apera is Australian fortified wine like sherry. Stone fruits, candied orange, caramel, toffee, hints of banana and pineapple come from this type of wine barrel. Our Solera expression is a full maturation in Apera - available on our website too.

I was gifted a bottle and given the difficulty that even some Australians had getting this beauty I was thrilled. I am a fan. Australia has some terrific spirits and I am watching the industry a lot. No question that they have amazing gins and I am eager to see how newer distilleries do with single malts! I am not a huge fan of maturing whisky in rum casks but this expression is enjoyable. I don't love the cost either but I see how it adds up. Bringing alcohol into the U.S. and Canada from Australia is expensive. They pay a lot more bringing in spirits from other countries. Terrific video! 🙂

I just got an exclusive bottle of Starward Congac cask finish and its a damn fine dram. Its nose is really sweet and the palate is similar with a nice orange bitters style finish. This Vitalis sounds amazing and great collection of casks at a great abv. Great review mate

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary It is really nice stuff it's a bottle I purchased through "the whiskey club" here in Australia its great club for one off bottleing's every now and then the distilleries work with them to create something exclusive. This is one's description is matured in fresh and charred red wine barrels, finished in cognac casks from France 48 abv, non chill filtered and I'm guessing it isn't colored because almost maroon.

I absolutely love the Nova. The Vitalis is very good as well for sure, but I suspect the Nova will have a place on my shelf over and over again

Apera is sherry. Since it's an Australian Whiskey it cannot legally use the word Sherry. Kind of like you can't call California sparling wine Champagne or American single malt cannot be called Scotch. If you tried this whiskey again and the label read sherry would it make sense?

Absolutely, but mostly because red wine and sherry would have so many of the same flavors. It’s funny, I didn’t notice that I had no idea what Apera was until I was filming. Oops

Like or Dislike: Like, even though part of me takes issue with the contention that whiskey is superior to beer. Ultimately, whether it's whiskey, beer, wine, cognac, or rum, which is better depends on time, place and company.

I LOVE beer ( and all spirits). It’s just hard to transport globally and maintain freshness. And I wanted to make something we could take to the world to celebrate our Australian provenance and culture.

To give you a comparison we have to pay $149 for Creek Water. The shipping really hurts
