More than likely, this young lady had an overwhelming fear of dentists that kept her from seeking dental treatment for many years. The fact that she is in the chair at all is a testament to the caring nature of the operator, dentist or hygienist. The fact that she was offered continuous IV sedation shows how seriously they took her fears. Bravo.

I feel your pain. friends. I'm 70 and over the years was gradually turned into a complete dentist-phobic by dishonest practitioners who did a great deal of unnecessary work (especially when I was a child), shoddy work, callous staff and disregard for what ultimately developed into a panic disorder every time I sit in a dental chair or hear a drill. One dentist actually lied and said the nitrous tank was full when it was empty. Did he think I wouldn't know??!! I fled the office in tears (as he was smirking!) and never went back. I've seen many dentists over my lifetime and some were terrific. Over the decades, though, they seem generally less and less willing to help with pain and fear control. I've never found one who would consider IV sedation, and, lately, even nitrous. I've never been a "slacker patient" and have always followed good hygiene practices at home. At my age, I'm doing as well as can be expected after so many years without consistent care. I want to add that this scaling video seems almost too good to be true. Congrats to the patient and staff and blessings to all! :+D

@Rachel Sheldon tartar build up can be attributed to poor oral hygiene. Cavities can be attributed to multiple things, such as - poor dental hygiene (as you mentioned) poor diet or malnutrition, diet high in acidic foods/drinks, genetics, if you're a mouth breather, age, pregnancy, calcium deficiency, teeth grinder, injury to mouth/teeth, etc.
Looks painful but I could only imagine how amazing it felt once the gums healed. Good work on the part of the dentist and his team ^^
