Using such big classical music compositions in cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes Cartoons, and many others is a very effective and easy way to introduce classical music to children... And they LOVE IT!

Strauss created this to celebrate Radetzky's victory at the Battle of Custoza in July 1848, crushing the hopes of Italian independence. As the Austro-Hungarian Empire was created only in 1867, this song is of the Imperial Austria. Actually, at the same time as the Italians, Hungarians were also trying to achieve independence, but the Habsburgs defeated the Magyars a year later, in August 1849.

besides the travailing a actual ticked can be very cheap. here below is the actual price list. If you really would like to be there in February you can try and buy a ticket. Price Categories The number of tickets for the New Year's Concert is limited to two, and the number of tickets for the Preview Performance and New Year's Eve Concert can be up to four. The ticket prices range between €35 and €1200 for the New Year's Concert, €25 and €860 for the New Year's Eve Concert, and €20 and €495 for the Preview Performance. The program is the same for all three concerts. You can view the status of the drawing at any time under your personal account. Should you wish to make a change in your application, you may only do so during the application period (February 1 - 29). In March, you will be informed of the results of the drawing in the 'My Account' area and by e-mail.

The inverse (converse?) is true, too: if you told me to sing the Radetzky march, I'd know the name but not be able to produce it on demand. When I try to recall it it ALWAYS comes out as the Light Cavalry overture.

We danced as soldiers to this song. Public loved it, the tempo, the beat after a calmness the girls before us had. I really miss ballet, I can't describe how much I want to dance to the music pieces our teacher used.

I heard it in casinos, but then I heard it in the first episode "Arrival" of the 1967 Patrick McGoohan TV show "The Prisoner" . I have searched for several months and found it on the sleeve of a CD of Prisoner music.

This is a beautiful studio recording by the Philadelphia Orchestra (USA). This piece is always a treat, especially during the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's traditional concert.

When I was on the army,they always played this for when the cavalry marched after us.It felt quite joyous,since my countries marching songs are quite dramatic and in minor keys.

@Jack Blade this song is written about radetzky in honor of the three days of Milan and his holding of Austrian Italy, defeating the Sardinians, and saving the Pope. That was all in 1848, the losses come later after Radetzkys death.

Being Chilean, I'll always associate this march with the Military Parade that is held on September 19th, each year, since it's the presentation march of the Chilean Army Military School. I used to watch the parade with my dad up until he passed away a few years ago. Good memories.

That's funny because Chile is often described as a South American Prussia due to training that they received from Prussians and what not while at the same time Prussia was frequently an enemy of Austria during this period.
