At the beginning it’s cool how Petaly is actually… disturbed by Kris and tries being nice and vulnerable. It’s kind of sad actually, like watching an abuse victim quietly speaking up before getting slapped. After that though Petaly snapped completely and decided “Y’know what? Murder suicide is sounding pretty appealing right now. Nothing else matters.” and went for it. Completely destroying their own body and letting go of EVERYTHING altogether. It’s rather dark and is a perfect example of some attitudes people take up in real life before going down the deep end.

Sometimes someone is so self deprecating they impose this on themselves, spiraling from there. @@guerindacio4584Well I went ahead and I looked at the creator of Petaly’s twitter and here’s the lore they established for Petaly’s ‘dark form’ when he bursts out of his body as a kind of shadow being. The lore the creator of Petaly established is that all darkners that are based on flowers work similarly. They age, and once they mature they can ‘bloom’ in many different ways. How they bloom is based on their emotions. With Petaly… his emotions obviously aren’t good in the slightest so he became that. Now the rest of this is going to be me assuming things so keep that in mind. It seems like Petaly uses a lot of anti-aging stuff to preserve his ‘youth’ with how easily his body fell apart as soon as the bucket of water hit him in this video. So he was suppressing his ‘bloom’ for a while. This led to it festering into a culmination of his abandonment and madness from never properly emotionally developing as a kid from being abused. I do honestly get this tbh, back when I was in high school I went through the same thing. I wasn’t able to properly process my emotions due to constantly masking them due to being viewed as ‘weird’. I only started improving and valuing myself when I opened up to people who genuinely care for and support me. This kind of story is VERY close to real life. Also like… do you need help? It is kind of strange that you asked the question on this comment specifically instead of the comment section in general. The only reasons I can think of for that are either that you thought I already knew Petaly lore/would respond OR that you saw a comment that was supportive on mental health and need to vent. Maybe I’m just overreaching and am being assumptious though. It was just a bit offputting is all and I’d rather risk weirding someone out a bit and possibly helping them/maybe even literally saving their life from suicide or self harm than not say anything at all. If you do you can give a simple yes if you don’t want to talk about whatever’s bothering/affecting you in a KZbin comments section and I can give you my discord. That backstory part was really sad showing that when Tenna first met Petaly, not only was he his best success but to Petaly almost felt like a father figure to him. But much like Jevil and Spamton, their was one day where it all can plummeting down and this song feels like Petaly’s day to bring those memories back right up.

It’s also interesting that Tenna’s friendly, straight-laced appearance grew more jagged and harsh looking later on (to the point where I almost didn’t recognize him in the flashback), like how Petaly’s childish charms were replaced with awkwardness. In a way, they’ve suffered the same fate; age has been unkind to the both of them. The main difference is that Petaly lost his looks and his mind, while Tenna lost his heart. And they’ve both lost the one they cared for above all else. It also casts the part of Petaly’s backstory where a couple tried to claim parenthood only for Tenna to hang up on them in a different, less “kick the dog” light; he could have just not wanted to give up a golden goose, but it’s just as feasible that he legitimately saw them as opportunists who only cared enough to try and get their son back when they saw that he could be exploited. Shame that Tenna himself fell into those greedy trappings later on….

the similarities between Petaly and UT's Flowey / Photoshop Flowey and Asriel are actually really good details considering Chapter 3 is the dreemurr house.. We got: - Gray, presumably to match UT's battle sprites being black and white aside from a few scenarios - Hints of Omega Flowey's lines ("Nobody else is gonna get to see you die", "Nobody else has gotten to hear me cry" / "And forget about escaping to your old save file", "And forget about escaping to your old hag", the obvious face similarities) - Hints of Asriel's lines ("Chara's been gone for a long time, haven't they? Definitely more heroic than Spamton in the Weird Route, who kind of starts to relapse. This guy’s own motivation is to use the ability to reset to claim his childhood back, before he was discarded, which is a decent plan, since the wielder of reset remembers what happens, so he could stop Tenna from finding the crystal and succumbing to greed. But yeah, this poor boi just wants to feel loved and admired again.

If you pacify him on the normal route you get his hat (that may be also Petaly himself,like how Jevil and Spamton turn into their items) since you brought peace to him and made him realize that he is not worthless,so he does have a happy ending of sorts

Everything about this is wonderful, but my favorite little detail is probably how the music that plays in the opening cutscene is so clearly designed to mimic “Too Much” (also known as “But Nobody Came”) from UT’s genocide route, which is famously a very slowed down version of Flowey’s theme.

I think Petaly would be THE character to make Chris feel something. I mean, according to his page on the Toyhouse, he was an orphan, abandoned by his parents. And after Tenna's betrayal, he wilted into... This. Really, check the page, it got some new juicy info. Anyways... Since Petaly would supposedly follow Kris, while trying to be friendly, it could make Kris feel connected to him more than any other freaks(secret bosses). Not only that, but I feel like Kris could be and orphan too... So, you know, to see someone in the same situation, some pathetic, nervous wreck, would feel bad. In the normal route, Kris would just break down, again. Maybe. Here? I feel like because of our doing, because of Kris getting accustomed to violence,he strikes His Most Friend just to not see something he is afraid he would(or might) turn out without friends. So that strike is only half our doing, half Kris's emotion. And God, the whole thing with wearing your previous skin... Haha, well, our dear Kris is kinda similar to it, no? In case of the weird route, I think this scene would really speak to him. He is like Petaly-kinda. We are wearing Kris's form to entertain ourselves. Kris tries to persist, to hide us. Just like Petaly hides his new form, Kris tries to hide us from others... Kinda. That, and the whole "being misused" thing... I really like Petaly's concept. So much. Not to mention, that now I consider Kris being an orphan. And, assuming this... Yeah, Petaly would definitely cause him a lot of emotions. Kudos for the "Don't forget" leitmotive(did I write it correctly?). Really like it. Crazy editing, by the way. Reminds of RAMIYORU.

This was absolutely amazing and worth the wait! I have a lot to say about this. For one, the sprite work is outstanding and very well done! I absolutely love the RAMI style editing in here. About the music, I love it! The Freedom motif along with FINALE were jaw dropping and pleasant to hear. I also thought I heard Black in it too? The Segment with the flash back to Petals' early days was very tragic and made me sad 😭 In conclusion, this is a masterpiece and you and Rami out did yourselfs! I can't wait to get myself my own Petaly Plush!

Actually thinking abt it,Petaly is kind of like Taranza and Sectonia. Like Taranza,he is stuck in the past,trying to reset back to when his life wasnt pain. And he's like Sectonia, with a negative emotion filled soul that once was pure,which ends in them ripping their body to reveal their soul.

oh i LOVE this. I love how since both the character themself and the music are "remixes" of Flowey the dialogue in the cutscene consists of a LOT of references to Flowey dialogue. To the point where its fammiliar enough to be recognisable but there are *just* enough things off with it for it to feel uncomfortable for me to watch the cutscene. And the reusal of them to fit the new context is amazing too, lines like "'I dont't like this' I've told yourself... I was never like this." and "Chris has been gone for a long time, haven't they?" hit really hard for me, especially since the latter was what Asriel said while having an epiffany in the pacifist route, so seeing that twisted HERE its.. man its good.... THE SPRITEWORK IS GREAT, the sprites of Petaly having the paint almost washed off, the features showing through drooping holes in the face.. they look so rad and creepy,, The song itself is WONDERFUL. It has a very simmilar-feeling intensity to BIG SHOT and TWR, but it feels like its expressing something new still, same for the uses of motifs, all of it feels more.. desperate? if that makes sense. That bit with the backstory showing.. ough its so good. I'll admit I don't actually know much about Petaly, but there some stuff I felt like I could interpolate from the images. Again, very fitting for a deltarune secret boss as we know them now, but sliiiightlly different circumstances. I'm ngl I got a little watery-eyed, I really like the art in that section, they looked so happy :( So yeah great vid!!!!! .,,.is that the Black motif at 2:49 in the background....... hello? based alert..?

Lots of really small details that mean a lot, it’s super cool. Petaly’s whole shadow body is not only reminiscent of the shadow mobsters, with him holding a gun like we saw them with during battles, but also his entire body is shaped like a star, similar to the star line he spoke just a few seconds before his actual body was revealed. I also noticed how similar this theme sounds to Battle Against a True Hero.
