In the third episode of The Justice Brief, journalist Saurav Das on the basis of his report for Article 14, explains three critical cases impacting the draconian Prevention of Money Laundering Act remaining pending before the Supreme Court of India. The court has not taken up the matters for the past 12 to 55 months. Das explains that this is despite the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud promising to address the larger concern around the weaponization of these laws against political dissidents in April 2023. The delay on the Supreme Court’s part has raised concerns about the protection of individual liberties and highlighting the urgent need for judicial intervention to ensure fair application of the laws.
