Hit cc for Courtney's commentary throughout the video! My wife, Courtney chooses my Walmart gear for a measly $100 Canadian, which doesn't get you very much these days, and I'm put into a mosquito infected Canadian forest to spend 24 hrs. I also have some tools from Princess Auto, and Bass Pro.

For opening the can. I saw Cody Lundin once show in an urban survival scene, taking the can, and rubbing the bottom of the can on a flat stone. Essentially wearing the metal away to the point where he could peel it open (from the bottom) and eat what was inside. If you were in a city, you could do this on a curb etc. I really enjoyed your video!

As for the opening of the can, pierce once (twice, as you showed, if you want to avoid spilling the liquid) and then just press the blade as a wedge (inside the can rim) around the lid until it's as open as you like. Felix Immler has a series of tips and tricks from about 5 years ago which included the Victorinox can opener but utilized as I just tried to describe and he opened a can in just 5-10 seconds.

Two ways to open a can. First the top is just a folded lip. Rub the top on a flattish rock until you can see the seams, and then you can pop it right off. Second put that lip on a straight edge, then hit the can downward, basically trying to pop the lip/lid off.

You usually need open flame to boil water efficiently. Coals are lower, more even temperature while flames are hotter and harder to control but boiling water doesn't need precision. Also thos Firestarters are self lighting kindling. If Mors had gotten his hands on those he probably would have said that you should be able to start a fire with half a paper match but you should carry those plastic matches

Personally, I would have been very cautious with how hot that fire burns, considering you had it over a tree root, which can catch fire (especially in Canada where they've made it so you have to have elevated fires for that reason). Otherwise, I'm really impressed with your ingenuity and creativity with the different materials she gave you. And that barb wire was some good luck right there. Good for shelters, like yours, good for tying (somewhat) things, good for making tools, making weapons, other structures like a raft if you're near water, etc. If you're surviving out there long term, what I would do is make a bat house and put it on the border of my camp so they eat the mosquitos. And you wouldn't have to worry about them flying into your tent because of how you have it set up. Awesome video, really enjoyed it.

I thought you said you had a multitool that you got from Bass Pro Shops...There should be a can opener on that...

Love the upload time. Means it’s ready for me when I get up Sunday morning along with Kevin’s and a few others I watch. Think you should do the same challenge but this time get someone else to buy for you. Lee it going as a series then the last one you go and buy what you would get

Id probably put the can lid down into the fire for less than a minute, remove it, and then strike the lid up from the side with the back of the knife.
