I will feed the fish special pellets supplied by Lyndon Trout Hatchery, install a new pond aeration system by Koenders at naturespondcare.com, and answer some of your nasty (and kind, or helpful) comments from the past few months.

Building a New Fish Pond Series: • Building a NEW FISH PO...
Lyndon offers both fish stock for ponds of any sort as well as stocked pond fishing, fly fishing, and fishing of any sort for kids to adults. You can book corporate events, or a day with the kids. Lyndon will show you how to clean the fish and even rent you a rod and real. Just show up and fish! www.lyndonfishhatcheries.com.
The fastest way to dig a big pond is to use the help of a qualified excavator. This excavator normally digs out house foundations and the operator has years of experience digging giant holes in the ground and removing mountains of material.
In the previous episode we had Clarke from Lyndon Trout Ponds and Fish Hatchery measure water quality of our fish pond for oxygen and water temperature. This pond was also monitored year round to see if it holds enough water and has the depth the fish need to stay cold. Rainbow trout need good to excellent water quality and plenty of oxygen. Water flow is an asset to help fish spawn. We discovered that the water in our pond is filled continuously with the help of ground water and is very cold, even in the summer. Trout will die if water gets above 25 degrees Celsius. Shade also helps keep water cool and our pond is sheltered for a good part of the day with trees.
You will need to find out what kind of soil you are working with. Is it clay, clay-loam and sandy loam are best for holding water. You will want to avoid limestone, shale, sand and gravel-they leak. Except in our case since the gravel is actually part of the ground water, which is ideal. You can ask around to find out if your pond will leak or will hold water year round. You don't want your pond to dry up in the middle of the summer.
Aeration of the pond is something we will be exploring as we see how the season develops. We are hopeful that water remains cool so dissolved oxygen in the water remains high.
After we dig the pond, we will let is sit for a few weeks before putting our fish in the pond. Ideally you will let the pond sit for a full year, but we are not patient enough for this.

I appreciate the updates and stuff. I’ve been watching these videos for so many dang years and he’s just gotten away from the roots of his channel. DONT GET ME WRONG!, I LOVE the builds and updates and humor and all that between all the guys there around the camp and stuff. But what happened to survivalist videos? What happened to just going to the bush with a cooler and your family and having a camp for a night or two? A lot has been filtered out over the years. Whether it be bc you chased what a few comments asked for and got distracted or if maybe you kind of lost sight of what we all started with, WITH YOU so many years ago. I won’t stop watching. I’ll always make sure it plays through and like. Just hope you get back to your roots soon. I know it doesn’t sound like it but, much love, Mr Beardsman.

Piece of friendly Advice. Dissolved Oxygen levels are lowest at night. Also keep in mind bottom up aeration is the best as you mentioned, but keep in mind on hot day above 72F especially, then you are heating up your pond. I would really add pond Dye at least during the summer, blocks out UVs and helps keep the pond cooler. Also let’s the bacteria in the currently break down the sludge etc. And if you are hell bent on Koenders products get there pond care Beneficial Bacteria product.

Most people who have put hard work into their own projects will notice the amount of work all of you put into this pond project. Awesome to see things come together! The relationship you have with your brother is really amazing to see too. I love the pond content just as much as the survival content. Just the idea of being more self sustaining is interesting. Gardening, farming animals, fish pond, hunting and cooking is all part of it. If people who are survivalists don’t see the worth of being more self sustaining in modern times are they even true survivalists? I’d watch your content if it involved many things not only survival. Maybe you can surprise us with some different content and see how it does? Love the content both your brother and you put out!! Thank you for entertaining us!!

Great stuff guys. I love the fish pond and the set up is looking good. I had a trout pond in the Edmonton Alberta area it was a lot of fun. We also had a Koenders windmill and an electric pump. Our windmill didn’t run often enough to be very effective. The electric was nice but we tried to winter our fish and humidity in the line would freeze blocking the line. We added an alcohol injection system that would push isopropyl alcohol into the line when pressure built up. That didn’t work very well. As for pond weeds you don’t have to plant any unless it’s a certain kind that you like. Before you know it you’ll have lots of weeds and little fresh water shrimp that will come automatically. Love this content enjoy the pond.

Glad to hear you’re thinking of adding a filter and plants to the waterfall. Great way to remove the excess nutrients from the water and reduce algae growth. You should consider adding a UV light into a section of the filter to help with the algae and get your water clearer and hopefully it will not be so green and you’ll get more visibility. Love the pond build so far, great content.

Thinking about the shape of the net that spans a tennis court, how about creating a similar net, though smaller in height, and every two weeks or once a month, dragging it across the surface of the pond to remove the accumulation of unwanted aquatic growth?

Your videos have been extremely great. No matter wat you do some hater is gonna have an issue. You’re doin right by ignoring them and doin wat you love da way you want to do it. Cause how many gonna come and offer their work and “expertise” free for your content. I would imagine none. Keep Rockin and I’m gonna keep watchin

44:42 i appreciate your channel, and you do a great deal of walking back and forth to get the caption of us watching you instead of just being in first person view the whole time! I've actually learned a lot from your channel, and hopefully, you'll take the positives with the negatives! 😏

My buddy use to have a algae problem, and he took a bunch of old Gatorade bottles, and tied them down a string, and it does the trick. You just run it from one side to the other across the water. Pretty much looks like the ball rope at a beach, not sure what it's called, I do know it's the part you aren't allowed to swim past. Anyway the water naturally moves back and forth and the string collects the algae.

I'm pretty much the exact opposite of an outdoorsman, but I think what you've built is amazing and your vids are killer, no complaints here👍

Sometimes I don't have time to watch a whole video in one sitting. So I watch what I can, and then come back and finish it after my kids go to bed. Hopefully that does not screw with the algorithm for your guys.
