So, I am a man, I haven't sewn a thing (correctly) in my life. This was so easy to follow and presented in a manner that leads for easy recollection. I don't think I could forget now that I have seen this video and I have no doubt that this should help others in the future. Skills like these never get old or out of fashion. In time, we may lose it all, but, with these skills or memories we can still have clothing to wear and pockets to keep our sewing kit in!

haha, same, here a man. Well, I just wanted to sew my metal music patches on my denim vest myself, and this video will help me a lot when I start doing it. I was looking at portable sewing machines, and one review said detail is better if sewn by hand (or by a professional with a professional machine of course). So here I am looking at KZbin and this is the first video I saw, and it sure is helpful.

I don’t care what anyone says, as a man I believe that everyone should know how to sew. Sewing is such a useful skill to have, there have been times where I rip my pants and instead of throwing them away, I’ll repair them. Also, it’s helped whenever I’ve made costumes for special events like Halloween contests or pranks.

I've been trying to thread a dang needle for well over 35 minutes now, I'm about to start stapling what I need to fix lol
@Thewoodlandelf6 жыл бұрын
lol, I've admit I've also used staples when I've been a hurry. But as far as threading the needle, make sure you've got one with a bigger eye, cut the end of the thread so it's smooth, and then lick the thread to smooth it out even more. It sticks all the little fibers together and makes it go through the eye easier.
@100GTAGUY6 жыл бұрын
The Woodland Elf oh believe me I was looking everywhere for a larger needle but with no luck haha, I tried licking it and had no luck with that because I have shaky hands. I dunked the thread in some water and stuck it in the freezer for a bit and that did the trick for me lol. I have a newfound respect for those ole timers who can do all this in mere seconds like its nothing.

I'm 16 and my dog had previously chewed a hole in my comforter, my parents being as busy as they are either forgot or couldn't sew it up for me, it wasn't a problem until it got dirty just now and needed a wash, I didn't want the stuffing to fall out so I looked up "how to sew" and your video popped up, hopefully my patch job holds up in the wash! Thanks for the video. I sewed up a foot long tear in a bathrobe; my first thought was to throw it away but my mom has tons of thread in a closet full of other junk, so I thought I'd give it a try. First timers should probably use a thread that's very visible. The thread I chose matched my robe almost exactly so it was a little more difficult. Also, a good of a way to gauge how much thread to use, like twice or three times the piece you're working on. Below, I read a comment+a reply to this exact concern. Tie off and continue where we last left off was suggested. Anyways, thanks!

Because I don’t know how sewing works, can you run out of thread? Like when you tie it at the end when you’re threading the needle, do you have to know how much thread you need or did I miss something?
@Thewoodlandelf6 жыл бұрын
Nope, you don't have to know how much thread you need. Just put some thread on your needle, and then when you run out of thread, you just tie it off like at the end. Then put some more thread on your needle and start sewing again right next to where you finished the first piece of thread. All the knots will be hidden on the inside of the material, so they won't be seen. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Pro tip if 'kitchen pants' means you're a fellow cook/chef: Go to a Goodwill or second hand clothing store and get slacks or chinos that fit your waist. I've gotten pants for like $6 that are too long but fit very well everywhere else. Measure your legs, trim the pants, hand sew a new hem. Now you've got expensive looking tailored kitchen pants for $6 and an hour worth of work.

The Woodland Elf I would like to sew but I’m scared that i will prick myself while using needle and is it true that if you prick yourself you can get killed because my parents always say needle are dangerous and kill people if it hits skin

Thank you sooooo much. I fixed my wife’s favorite shoes by watching this video. It was my first time and she was so sad when the back strap broke. Thanks to this video I was able to fix them for her

2:30 i don’t get this part. theres no loop. my thread keeps coming out when im done sewing and i feel like im too dumb for this
@Thewoodlandelf2 ай бұрын
Ok so when you threaded the needle, you get two tails right? So you tie a knot in the end of the tails. Then when you put the needle in the fabric, don't quite pull it through all the way. There will the spot between the fabric and the knot in the thread on the two tails. Slip the needle in between those two tails. That's the "loop" I'm talking about. That will stop your thread from coming out. Hope this helps. Let me know if you still need more help.

Yes, sewing generally tends to be 50% sewing, 50% crying, lol. But it's all worth it in the end when we get to use what we've made.

I'll be doing this since my sewing machine doesn't work atm. Very helpful and easier than I thought.
@Thewoodlandelf8 жыл бұрын
Yup, it's pretty easy once you get down to it. I used to sew everything by hand until I got a machine. Hand sewing takes a bit longer, but honestly it's a bit more relaxing too, because you can always doing while watching a movie.

Even though my Mom sewed, I never tried to learn as a kid. Now, many decades later I sew something now and then and I do the best I can, but never knew the right way to tie it off at the end until now. Thank you for that. :)
