Reason I wouldn't buy a statue: my wife said she would leave me if I got another one. On the plus side I'll have more room for statues after she moves out. 😄

If I had to take a guess, I'd say the dynamics of the character. So whether the pose makes sense and is interesting while still maintaining some level of realism. I see far too often sculpts where around the knees and elbows in particular there's some lack of volume preservation.

I’m liking Mr.X more and more each day. He’s basically the Joe Rogan of Statue/High End collectibles. He’s blunt, straight forward and honest about everything and he’s totally himself and doing his own thing and making it not only informing and entertaining but in an Xtreme sense professional! Loving the content and hope you keep up the great work!! Jesus loves you and I do too.

I don't really collect statues but i think if i ever did i would have to agree on all these. Especially pose.. as when you walk into a room you want to see a statue that makes you happy and looks good on a shelf.. and the pose will heavily impact on that. Great video again mate take care

1. Price 2. Scale. 1/4 Scale for my MCU statues, 1/8 for Naruto and Demon Slayer statues and 1/6 for One Piece statues (although I have some older 1/8 scale ones) 3. Won't go with the collection. Saw some One Punch Man, Bleach and DC statues that I really like selling at affordable prices locally but sticking to the 4 series I mentioned above for now unless I have the space and money to start collecting a new series which is not anytime soon. 4. Size. The character may be in scale with my collection but is too big for my current setup. An example would be Iron Studio 1/4 Scale Thanos.

It might not go with your list, but my personal number 1 reason I don’t buy a statue is that I’m out of room in both my collection room (which has now spread to other parts of the house) and the room where I ‘hide’ the statue boxes.

i agree completely with your number 1! it has to be the pose! something you didn’t mention was wait time! it would drive me nuts waiting months and (x>8) months. i think you bought that samurai wol. and you won’t get that for like a year? i could be wrong... that was my attempt at an example haha. that ss flying out of a black hole is one of my fav statues you own but the pose is aight, but the price 🤯 make me have to pass until i reach mr. x status ;)

1. Love it. When I say this, I don't mean it replaces your wife / girlfriend. However, it is very important, that you are absolutely sure this is something that you love and intend to keep. The Concept, the Character, the Pose, the Base, the Paint, etc. If you see any flaws, even minor ones, walk away and don't look back. 2. Space / Protection. There is no point in spending 100 dollars on a piece, only for it to get broke. If you don't have a safe place to put a statue, don't buy it. 3. Quality. There is always going to be a better statue created some time in the future, eventually your purchase will become outdated. Can you see this statue as traditional aka a Timeless Classic? If you decided to sell it, would you have a problem getting someone to buy it? If the answer is yes, skip it, your wallet thanks you. 4. Price. is it in your best interest to buy this statue? Can you afford it with out putting yourself in financial danger? Is it a solid investment? Remember this order, Family > House > Car > Retirement > Emergency Fund > Display Space >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Statues. 5. Theme, Scale, and Company. Are you a DC fan or Marvel Fan? Star Wars Collector? Villains? Fairy Tails? Dynamic Comics? Etc? How big do you want to go 1/6? 1/5? 1/4? 1/3? Are you Sideshow? XM Studios? Gentle Giant? Prime 1? Iron Studios? Tweeterhead? PCS Collectibles? Pick One Theme, One Scale, and Try to Stick with One Company per display. I know, it's really difficult, the problem is that you are unlikely to fine a matching Iron Studios Wonder Woman that is going to match up with a Prime one Superman or an XM Studios Batman, or A Sideshow Collectibles Green Lantern or a Tweeterhead Cat-Woman. You might get lucky and see something similar style, height and base. However, most of the above companies listed here, will eventually produce something you really like. By sticking with one company, you limit the amount of purchase you will make and it will make the decision to buy or not; a lot easier. Plus your collection will match and gain value, as it is a collection of statues from the same company, which increase it's worth and give you the option to sell them all together if you wanted to.

Just started to jump into the premium statue collection game, so I can't say I've got experience on actual statue pieces. Few Reasons I hold off. 1. Is the piece worth the price? (I love some custom pieces but they're astronomically high. I want the Royal Guard from Sideshow. Its nice, but most of it is fabric. Not worth $500) 2. Do I have the room for this thing? (I love Prime 1 but damn those guys eat real estate). I have a few 1/3 scale and really want more but nowhere to put them. 3. It looks good now. Will I be happy with it in the long run? 4. How much of a pain is it to move around? (Prime 1. masterpieces but they're complex) 5. How accurate is it? Comic? Modern take? I love the XM Cyclops because of the modern elements...but why did they give him a yellow diaper? They didn't put one on Wolverine or Magneto. 6. Shipping Costs.

Reasons I would not buy a statue include: Rooted doll hair, insane shipping/taxes/list prices, oversized/overwhelming base, lying down/reclining/crouching figure, disappointing face sculpt, an overwhelming amount of mixed media (a small bit can be fine like cloth capes or metal weapons)... so many more, but these are probably my top ones.

I don't have an issue with scale, since different sizes mesh with my display space. Unknown chatacters, same. If the pose and quality is in line with price, obscure characters are acceptable. I have a very narrow collecting angle, so I'm well insulated against stautes that violate that precept. Chief rule I follow: if this was worth nothing, I'd be happy to own it.

I don’t buy a statue if it is part of a set or new license and don’t have the space to collect multiple statues in the set. I also pass on stuff in the wrong scale, even if it’s great looking, I won’t buy a statue if I don’t have other statues (or preorders) in the same scale to go with it.

Since I am only 2 months into this statue game, I don’t have much time practicing #restraint or reasons that turn me off. I do find myself looking and reacting to bases. If the base is off I won’t bother thinking about it from that point on. I am still figuring out what direction I want my collection to go in. I am all over the place ATM which is not good. I went statue happy the past 2 weeks and ordered 8.

Stupid high shipping prices cause of COVID, I ain't buying anything unless it's local or until shipping prices go back down. That and I gotta love the piece and be well made and printed by a factory who does high quality. Other than that I'm getting super picky with buying any pieces in this era.
@Bringthewinter
@Bringthewinter 4 жыл бұрын
1. For me personally, materials is a huge factor. As a kid, I would play with G.I.Joes, hot wheels, transformers, Thundercats, Tonka trucks, and even my sister’s Barbie dolls (no shame or regrets). And I can remember how they would all FEEL different. But generally, they felt like toys. Nothing is wrong with PVC or plastics, but they bring up childhood memories of toys and action figures, not statues. I don’t like the idea of spending 1000-3000 dollars on toys. Funny thing is, you can’t tell how a statue feels or judge the quality of materials used from just watching videos or even attending comic cons because companies won’t let you touch them. I think some companies use that unfairly to their advantage by creating huge spectacular pieces that actually feel cheap in hand, but they don’t want you to know or hold them until you buy them. 2. The number of pieces is also a factor. I don’t mind if the actual figure of a statue is more than six dozen pieces, as long as it isn’t a Gundam amount. Some statues should have a lot of pieces, like that P1 Shockwave. Can you imagine if he was all one piece, the number of easy shortcuts prime 1 would have made and how bad and cheap he would have looked? But I hate it when the base consists of a lot of complicated pieces, more than the statue needs. That P1 Poison Ivy has a figure (body) that is mostly one piece, but her base is several small pieces. If the base has more pieces than the actual figure’s body on that base, I’ll pass. I’m much too afraid I might lose those pieces or break them when packing them up and relocating. 3. Similar to your pose pet peeve, mine is anatomy. Most human beings, whether attractive or hideous, have a body that makes sense unless they’ve been deformed or disfigured. Their eyes are even, nose is straight, their neck matches their shoulders, arms and legs only reach so far and bend a certain way. All of their muscles and definition make mathematical sense. In traditional art, anatomical correctness is taught using line grids and measurements that often equal each other. The nose is the same length as the ears, for example. Obviously, comic book characters aren’t anatomically correct. They are exaggerated takes, or caricatures, of perfectly shaped human beings: women with long legs, big breasts, small waists; men with huge shoulders and arms, thick necks and jawlines, flat shapely butts, ripped thighs). Some comic books characters were not meant to be three dimensional. So for a sculptor to make Wolverine’s hair look Wolverine-accurate from every angle and direction and distance is an achievement. However, when a sculptor gets it wrong (one arm being longer than the other, the wrists too thin to realistically support such large fists, the feet being too small for the calves or ankles, a butt cheek drooping too far) it then becomes hard to unsee those mistakes and you end up obsessing over that anatomical inaccuracy until you finally have to get rid of the statue altogether.

1. If I know nothing about the character or the line ( animation) 2. poor quality. 3. weird scale, like 1/7 or 1/8, 4. over priced (or I can’t afford) 5.if a statue has too many switch outs 6. movie based statues due to likeness is usually off,. 7. used,. 8. customs (it sounds like a hassle to purchase) 9.1/3 or bigger due to space and it won’t go with 1/4 which is what I have. 10. If a statue has too much mix media. ( I’m okay with capes.)

Tough for me at this point its space. However if space wasn't an issue it would have to be the price, & is the quality of the piece worth its price if so then I'll get it. However if the price is a bit to high for what its worth I pass on it or flip a coin to decide heads or tales if I want it that badly. Another is if the physical proto does not look as good if not better than the completed 3d renders. Some companies put out great 3d renders but when the physical proto is completed its like what the hell just happened? & for me the pose is another biggie as well, in addition does it include additional portraits. Lastly are shipping costs as much as the statue itself that can be a big deterrent especially when u pay in Canadian dollars lol

With no price limit, there may be ones I wouldn't pick up as quickly as others, but likely I'd by the lionshare available to me. The ones I exclude would probably be unavailable, unattractive to me, either visually, or for what they represent. I love horror but don't need to have overly macabre, butchery, sadistic activity, gorey execution or fanatical Satanic elements that would be detatched from any pop stories, series, or brand (Berserk is great and Jason Vorhees, etc., but I'm not interested in tributing real serial killers). I steer towards attractive nude females, but away from torture, rape & battery types of shock art. I might get something painted the wrong color to complete a black and white or other stone or metal color set, but not something one off, like you mentioned, having to make up some "Reverse Spider-Man" or Andy Warhol alibi for it. I've found several sexy mannequins, and costumes, so I wouldn't buy a life size statue to put in my shop of any character that I could represent with a mannequin. (Just for the mobility, pose-ability factors) But, when money is no object, the statues are just the beginning.

I wouldn’t buy a statue if I didn’t have the money or I would have to wait more then 6 months to get the statue
