My take on french onion soup: Here you can buy dehydrated french onion soup mix for about 80c. A packet of that, an egg or two (for binding) and some breadcrumbs/flour (dry it and add some body) with 500g of hamburger mince (high fat mince), mix it up and you've got cheap, flavourful burger patties. You'll get about 8-12 patties, depending on how much crumbs/flour you add.

The guy who would only ever eat one specific brand of mac and cheese might have had avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). Symptoms include rejecting food based on factors like smell, texture, color, and other things. It's like a mental barrier between what you consider edible vs inedible. Like how some people are able to eat bugs and others can't stomach the thought. Respect to the guy if he wasn't afraid of other people knowing he had it. Social pressure is terrifying and makes eating with some people stressful.

Mac N' Cheese with egg refers to putting an egg yolk on top to finish off the dish (needs to be done while the mac is still hot so that the yolk isn't completely raw when it gets consumed). FYI to everyone who says "that's gross" - the yolk is literally pure fat. The gross part would be doing egg white. Think of yolk like gravy.

In my household, Annie's is the king of Mac, but we rarely get it unless it's on sale. Kraft is the OG, but if we have money for craft we might as well get Annie's. Our go-to are cheap store brands... Safeway does the job, but was missing the sauce packet once, so I don't have faith in it. We recently got Winco brand, but haven't made it yet. With the mac and cheese with egg, I kinda imagine it like a French omelet; fully cooked, but not fully solid. Just rich, smooth, and buttery.

It's italian pasta originally made to appease mild American taste buds. It uses guanciale (upgrade for bacon, it's basically pork cheeks), pecorino romano (specific cheese that works the best in those types of dishes), black pepper and egg (but it cant be overcooked into scrambled, cause its meant to be part of the sauce). So basically the same dish, but with some thought put into it and much better flavour and nutritious value. Also you really never heard of spaghetti carbonara? That's like one of the most known spaghetti dishes aside maybe bolognese and few more.

Boxed macaroni and cheese is NOT comparable to normal cuisine. Its a disgusting nightmare product of industrialized convenience... that happens to be delicious. Like Taco Bell; it is not and should not be compared to real Mexican food. Using the egg as a sauce thickener for the cheese and then claiming that using a seasoned and scrambled egg is doing it wrong is like complaining that your T-bone steak is undercooked cause it's not gravy yet. They aren't the same thing, even though they have similar ingredients. I hate spaghetti, but you won't catch me leveling the criticism at it that "It's just a screwed up croissant" cause they both have eggs and flour in them. 2: I have HEARD of carbonara, sure. Its a word. But I've never seen it made, seen it eaten, seen it on a menu, heard anyone ask for it, or lament how much they miss it. And I've lived in five different states and been to 3 other countries over the last 30 years, and my best friend married an Italian immigrant who has not once in the last 15 years mentioned it. So yes I'm ignorant of it, but I don't believe that there's been a lack of opportunity for exposure to it, so maybe it's not as common / popular as you assume. Doesn't mean it's bad, after looking it up I'd like to try it, but I certainly won't be expecting anything resembling macaroni and cheese and hot dogs from the experience. 3: From what I can tell it was not invented "to appease mild American taste buds." It was either A) a pre-existing Italian dish from the Lazio region that went by a different name, described as early as the 1890's. Or B) Was a side effect of American soldiers asking local restaurants to make something tasty out of their freaking ration packs. Choosing to describe an entire country's palate based on their travel rations from almost a century ago seems a bit sus to me. Interesting side note: One of the most popular bits of Hawaiian comfort food is another dish invented using limited resources for soldiers on rations, "Loco Moco." It is delicious. It's rice, fried eggs, ground beef and gravy layered together in a bowl. It's excellent. I like making it with a couple changes based on Tex-Mex seasoning but regular brown beef gravy and over-easy eggs is the "norm."

32:30 So the studies aren't conclusive yet on how well human body can digest chitin - the building thing for bug shells. That's why it may not be as sufficient way of getting protein. That's not an issue in preprocessed food where the shells are removed. Its genuinely insignificant, compared to how much energy and resources you still can save, by getting bug protein. And it's not like we meed to move into bugs fully. They are however extremely good substitute for most meat and could majorly help limit the production of the meat. Especially beef, that is the worst polluter.

I don't see a reason why those boxes couldn't have been used just for pasta. And have already existing cheese stand for the sauce. This could basically have the same recipe as broccoli soup, but with pasta instead of onions and obviously no broc. Or even better - add pasta machine and use dough balls for pasta preproduction. This would open all the routes for all the recipes involving tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese and eggs.
