Vernon Reid is in my top 10 guitarists. I grew up listening to LC. This song is so poignant and applies so much to today. Amazing lyrics. "When a leader speaks, that leader dies" is also one of my most favorite lyrics.

@@007chinochefSame. I saw them open for The Rolling Stones in 1989 and it was amazing. Their album Vivid is still one of my favorites.

This is pure lyrical genius...now more than ever people blindly follow the "smiling faces" politicians and "leaders" on tv...people need to start thinking for themselves again instead of being told "1 and 1 is 3"

The song is from their debut album, "VIVID" which came out in 1988 and had a heavy rotation on MTV and BET. The Band: Cory Glover - Lead Vocals, Vernon Reid - Guitar, Muz Skillings - Bass, Will Calhoun - Drums.

Check out an even older band called Bad Brains. Or early 90s Ice-T with his band Body Count.

The opening was from Malcom X's speech "Message to the Grass Roots". The title was penned by Nikita Khrushchev in response to Joseph Stalin "On the Cult of Personality and Its Consequences". Other historical figures seen and heard in this video include JFK, FDR, MLK, Benito Mussolini, and Mahatma Gandhi. According to Vernon Reid, "a famous German" was originally also in the lyrics but was pulled due to fear that referring to him would be misconstrued and too controversial.

I'm going to come right out and say it: This song (and many others from that era) are WAY more relevant today than they were back then, and they WERE relevant back then!! I highly recommend watching/listening to Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime" in its entirety (it's a concept album/music video library) that literally predicted a LOT of the social upheaval the US (and the world at large) has experienced over the last few years.

They are still touring with 'burnin Vernon', one of the most criminally underrated guitarists. They are coming to Memphis in March, ya'll ❤❤❤ another leader- Lincoln.

Every time I see someone surprised this is an all black group, I bring up Bad Brains. They were one of the most influential bands no one has ever heard of. The Beastie Boys, in their 2012 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech thanked them (among others), and they were the staple of the hard rock and punk style bands coming out of the 80s
