Think of it this way… the one you have lost wldnt have survived in the wild either as if ther not strong enough to get out of the egg then nature doesn’t think it’s strong enough to survive in the wild…. Its natures way and ther was nothing you cld have done…. Love the young steers. Watch the larger black steer doesn't push Ireland out of the grain feeder, he needs to get equal feed. Might want to consider 2 separate feeders until he gets larger....just my thoughts?

So sorry about spunky bruster😢. Catherine do not beat yourself up, you are doing an excellent job. You do what you can but remember they are responsible for getting themselves out of the egg if you can help great but you are not responsible to get them out. Also I think Jason said only 50 to 70 % even make it out of the egg but like you it breaks my heart especially for you when they don’t make it !! Just keep on keeping on and hopefully we will get to see one of those golden nuggets soon ❤❤❤. Also loved the boys !!!

We all know that the eggs wouldn't have hatched at all without you giving them a chance. *You are doing everything you can* to strengthen them, teach them your voice, etc. I'm excited for one or 6 more of them to hatch, haha! 2 very handsome steers! Their winter coats appear so thick and gorgeous. I wish my hair had that much body. Thankfully they seem to accept you as theit hooman Mom and accept you petting them. Catherine, please do not place any blame on yourself re the first Emu egg. Nugget sat on the first batch and zero survived. You are totally invested in caring for the eggs, as was Nugget. That first egg was fully formed but obviously very weak. You accomplished more than Nugget - it simply wasn't meant to be. Nugget and Goldie provided you many eggs. I taught my Hereford bull to stand while I brushed him. I brushed his feet and teased his tail to make it fluffy. He was so gentle. When he stepped in a metal coffee can, it wrapped around his foot just above his hoof. He limped back to the house with his ladies. They stood around him and lowed until my Mother and Grandpa came out to see what was wrong. Grandpa was able to get the coffee can off his foot with a pair of pliers and tin snips. If I had not worked with him, there would have been a real problem.

I would suggest dehorning the steers. Even when tame they learn to use their head/horns to shove anything in their way, which could be you when graining them. I am sure you will enjoy them as unique personalities emerge😊

I can't imagine anyone doing more for the Emu eggs than you have done. I too, had read that you shouldn't assist with breaking them out of their shell, because the shell could still be attached to their skin, and if you pull the shell it could cause them to bleed out. I think you’re on the right track having the daddy emu talk to the eggs. Just think how much stronger those babies are getting every day compared to the first ones. Please know you have done everything possible in trying to hatch these baby Emu’s. Don’t beat yourself up as remember they would have NO Chance without your loving efforts. I for one am so proud of you and Thank you for bringing us along. ❤️🙏🏻

I have no doubt you are doing your best for these baby emus. That may be why they lay so many eggs. Not all the eggs will hatch. Your calves are just precious. Have fun with them!
