Balkan is weak market that is already saturated and is not a economic hub. Both Belgrade teams have fans organized all over Europe, and the Stark Arena in Belgrade is always full, there are always 20,000 fans, I think there were as many as 23,000 people at the Partizan-Mega ABA League match, so why wouldn't both clubs participate in the Euroleague? People come from the USA, the UK and other countries to watch derby games because there are no such games in the NBA, and there will never be such a charge, and the second thing is that Serbia won silver at the World Cup and they would have won that gold too if Jokić, Micić, Kalinić and the rest, if next season the Euroleague doesn't allow both Belgrade clubs to play in the Euroleague, then it's a total disaster..Greetings from Serbia, the land of basketball!

Partizan and Zvezda are the perfect expression for brand identity of Euroleague. If you don't keep them you're losing the path. Every game matters, and matters a little bit more in Belgrade. If Euroleague want to differentiate and expand the market must keep them and must keep this type of identity, otherwise will fail the challenge.

We just need a promotion and relegation system in the Euroleague. Eurocup should become the Euroleague's Division 2. There should also be a Division 3 consisting of FIBA Champions League teams. The Euroleague's worst teams should be relegated to Division 2, with the best teams promoted. It's the ideal system for our Euroleague mentality. It shouldn't matter who has the license. Only thing it should matter is how good the team is.

Thats just doesnt work. A mediocre eurocup team could have a blast season and win it. It doesnt mean it will be competitive in Euroleague next season. Turk telecom fir example. They palyed in the final last season (plus won regular Turkey season), but this year, smaller budget and they are at the low places in Turkey and in Europe. Imagine them in Euroleague.Close to zero wins they would have.

They have most exciting fanbases, they both show great basketball quality and get actual results by being playoff contenders and ready to cause problem whoever they may face. To me, a competition is as good as its middle-class teams and these teams are carrying Euroleague to another level. Sure there are better teams and also as in every league there are some weaker performances, but both Partizan and Crvena Zvezda exhibit the true nature of Euroleague basketball. It would be such a shame to not be able to watch one of them next year.

I'm a Crvena Zvezda fan, but I want Partizan too in the EuroLeague. The greatest atmosphere and rivalry, ofc there is a bad blood but they both deserve to be there. Both teams deserve licences. Let see after 10 years contracts the roster and results. It's crazy to think other clubs in Europe can do better than Zvezda and Partizan. Partizan with the best coach in Europe, tradition, fans base, love for the game. Zvezda with a masive fans support base, love for the game, Serbian players that would love to play for the team rather than going to other Europina club. One of the key reason why serbia is so good in basketball is "the base" which is popularity among young generations. Basketball is not just sport, it it a way to socialise. In Serbia if you want to meet some friends you don't need to invite them to some café in town. You just say to your friends "let's play basketball".

Look guys, if this was about the sport of Basketball or about Basketball culutre you would be right. But it is not. It is all about the Benjamins and Euroleagues plans for the future expanding into the global market as a competing product to the NBA. They want to pretend to be a more competition focused league because they cant bring in the talent the NBA can simply because of budget constraints and resulting lower salaries. But in reality they want to have a globally marketable product for which people in the Americas, the middle east and Asia are willing to pay money. In order to do that, they need marketable clubs and since nearly everybody knows Berlin around the world but nobody knows Beograd, the Serbian teams are simply not as attractive to Euroleague. Add the financial instabilities to this and the risk of handing out A-Licenses which are tough to revoke. It sucks but nowadays, if you want to watch competitions that exist for competitions sake and the love for the game, get used to watching semi pro leagues and international cups, because everything else is just a business!

Serbian basketball lost a lot with the creation of the Adriatic league! And it will continue to lose even more if it does not turn to itself... Serbia and Serbian basketball have a great tradition, a ton of good players, coaches and an incredible audience, which understands basketball better than most of the world. As a Serbian I think that basketball in Serbia is popular by chance. In the 50's Serbia/Yugoslavia had a generation of very talented basketball coaches, and not only that they were great basketball coaches they also were great at sharing their knowledge with other younger coaches, and that created a lineage of great Serbian/Yugoslav basketball coaches. Also communist Yugoslavia had an accent put on team sport, every village no matter how small had at least one but almost always more then one sport club. So with those great coaches from the 50's and sport culture that was pushed by the government came the gold at the 1970 World Cup. And I guess after that initial success basketball remained popular and it's popularity grew as a result of great results. In Serbia there is a great emphasis on wining, participation trophies aren't really a thing here, so if we are good at something we will love it. Oh and Serbia winning against the US and wining the 2002 World Cup in the US after 90's sanctions and 1995 and 1999 bombings made basketball incredibly popular... As for Greece and Lithuania I can't really say.

I guess it's about markets here. Euroleague's first goal is to make money. Belgrade is not a big market,so that's why they give long term contracts to teams such as real, Barca, Panathinaicos, olympiakos. It's not so much about the product, unfortunately. I mean, if you're a player, would you rather live in a big market and city, such as Madrid,berlin,damn, even Athens,due to the weather and climate,or in like Belgrade or Tenerife? Life outside of the court for the players and their family plays a huge role. Im sure you wanna play in a team that provides a lot of cash or it's competing so you get a championship,and have it in your bio as a honour,so you can receive a bigger contract soon and have that championship and finals experience. But to return to what i was saying, think of gran Canaria. They won the eurocup,the quality for the euroleague, they guarantee their ticket for an appearance this season. But they just didn't have the budget for it,and stayed in eurocup,which i definitely don't underestimate. But euroleague is where the BIG (European) money are. I heard that if u conquer the entire thing in eurocup u receive like 300.000€ , like u don't even get a solid one year contract for that money, whilst in euroleague,you get money even for each W.

2:20 Id like to give some insight as an Alba Berlin supporter: Cities like Munich or Berlin have multiple successful teams in many different sports. F.e., in Berlin there is a very good team in ice hockey with the Eisbären Berlin, in volleyball with the Berlin Volleys, in handball with the Füchse Berlin , two teams in football with Union Berlin and Hertha BSC and a basketball team in Alba Berlin. All of those teams got sizable fanbases and all of them besides football play on an international and a very successful german level. ALBA has a huge youth program (the biggest in germany) and does many things to expand basketball in the region. Taking away the EL would slow down that development and the growth of basketball in Berlin itself. In addition to that, being obviously biased here, ALBA is one of the few teams in the EuroLeague that is independent from the success of a football club or an investor, we developed naturally on our own. Teams like Bayern wouldnt exist the way they are without the support and the traction of their football team, reflecting in their comparably poor attendance. I dont think a League made of football teams and big sponsors or entire countries behind them would be beneficial to the League, regarding attendance or athomsphere. 4:40 I agree to that part, however, ALBA has one of the lowest budgets in the EL, mainly because of our non guaranteed spot. With that money and security for players to play in the EL, we would be able to be more competitive. 5:25 ALBA has been in the upper half of attendance for every year we played in the EL so far. We are prime destination for international fans due to Berlins size and the amount of people from all over the world living here. Besides, we got one of the biggest Arenas in the EL. We beat Barcelona on our homefloor, we had multiple close games and have to adept to basicly losing our starting five. That is a bad take.

ALBA deserves spot in the EL, but when compared to Serbian clubs I think they should have the priority. Compare which players are produced in Serbia Vs Germany and that comparison would tell you all.

I agree that both Serbian teams need to get some sort of license but the disrespect towards the German teams is real. They pay the most taxes, don't get any funding from soccer nor from the government. Their finances break even or are very close to it every year. Meanwhile almost every other team is burning money... and in case of Alba, they just beat Red Star convincingly after getting an adult point guard and they were the most fun to watch team a while back.

Alba has some interesting plays and pretty good offense sometimes. But man their defense sucks, they beat Zvezda because they put together a solid defensive game, but that happens once in every 7 games. Honestly like they said on this podcast, does anyone really tune in to Asvel/Alba game when they are playing ? Maybe only fans of clubs that they are playing against. Me as an honest basketball fan would tune in to any other game instead of the game with these two because I really don't have much to see and I'm gambling on to these games where they may put themselves together to play a good game. On the other hand Bayern Munich is the team that definetly deserves to be there, good players good coach and you can see game quality. They were top8 team 2 years ago, and I belive they would be this year too If they weren't unlucky with Lucic injury and had him from the start. I don't think there is disrespect to the German teams, it's just that teams like Alba and Asvel hold the bottom places for how many years now ? And there is no improvement ever. In terms of fanbases they also don't have much to offer. So what is left ? (except from money ;) )

@@LukaVidic01 Munich had 2 very solid years under Trinchieri and got super lucky to have the opportunity to sign Laso imo. They're definitely growing stronger almost every year and have a new arena coming. As for Alba, they want that license for how long now? 8 years? I think they performed well for their budget, never finishing last or even second last despite having the least budget due to reasonable finances. This year is bad because they have 2 20yo PGs and a blatantly weak Center rotation, plus some injuries. I mean if Alba wanted, they could spend 10M more and go into debt but that goes against their DNA, I actually appreciate that as a club. Burning money is easy of you have a seemingly limitless sponsor or person behind the club who doesn't mind the loss

Partizan as previous European Champion ...many Final 4.....many Final 8.....should definitely get A licence ....Red Star on the other hand is there just because they take money from Government Budget and they buy their place in Eurolegue ....For all their existence they have never been able to reach play off (Top 8 ) ....so I think it's only team in Eurolegue that doesn't know what is play off game ....they should go into history same as Alba or Asvel ....

Alba is a great organization and has less debts thqn many other teams. Euroleague should watch for economic stability and long term sustainability and competitiveness so spectators watch a good interesting product, and Alba does. ASVEL is on another conversation

2 seasons ago ALBA was better than Crvena Zvezda and Kaunas. Crvena Zvezda had plenty of bad season in the past and now that they are "good" for 2 season they suddenly belong? You can’t compare Zalgiris with Alba lol Zalgiris from 2017/2018 season played 3 times in playoffs plus they reached Final 4. Zalgiris just like Alba isn’t supported by football team either. And I’m not even talking about that Zalgiris is euroleague champions and lead euroleague by attendance before serbian team started playing in Stark.

No fanbase, no history, nothing. Alba is just one big nothing. Forced into Euroleague only because one American pumps money into it. Where are German basketball players, throughout history? I can't think of a single one. Coaches, clubs, players. None. Germany shouldn't even be considered from Euroleague, what they do is throw a pile of money into it so they allow it.

I disagree with this opinion.Fans,crowd and rivalry stuff all stands,but this 2 Serbian clubs needs a strong economy power who is not financialed by county, be financially supported by football clubs or some strong rich bilioner who bought football clubs like Newcastle or PSG,and pay every debts that they need to give their country ,than the EL will notice it and they will call those two Serbian giants about A license.And plus they need to solve the hooligans incidents(especially Zvezda hooligans) beacous some other fans needs to feel save for their kids and them self safety.I am from Serbia ,and I love Partizan,but I know that the president of my club is economicly ruining club.If Zeljko Obradović and Zoran Savić is not in the coach and manager position I know my club would be shut down in 2021 beacous of our dear bould president Ostoja Mijailović.

@@mmajst0r Ma dzaba vam te glupe price, vi od svog osnivanja imate kompleks manjeg kluba i to vas izjeda,zato i licite vise na sektu nego na sportski drustvo. Zato sve mora biti glasnije,jace,napadnije,bolesnije,maloumnije. A sve to zbog kompleksa. Vidi se to i po ponasanju vasih igraca kamerunaca, kad ste i njima uspjeli usaditi to odvratno seljacko kompleksasko ponasanje, ne treba vise nista pricati.
