they could add mandatory tricks with a relatively easy-to-do patch: tmu stunt mode's code exists but is largely unused in tmnf, it's the "chained flip 720" or sth spam when your car goes flying. i don't think it made it to tm2020, but assuming both engines are fundamentally similar, it shouldn't be difficult to convert the existing code. if they allowed those tricks to be used as a cam trigger, mappers could add virtually uncheesable mandatory (air) tricks. ground tricks like 360s on ice might work slightly differently, but nothing they couldn't add with relative ease.

I think they meant breaking as you had fragile blocks and that can cause the car to break and then they decided to make the identity where you have to brake so they just used it both ways even though they just used the breaking spelling for when your car breaks

All of the trackmania pro league maps have an "identity" that is a difficult portion of the map, usually like a crazy trick or simply a crazy block combination that you can easily *identify* the map

@@nukewurld to add to this with examples: The maps are named after their identities and usually have a 'foreshadowing' with a mini identity earlier in the map with the full thing coming towards the end of the map Tubes - the pipe (tube) flip into the dirt wall followed by the double pipe flip into the wall and then the finish Cosmos - the far away camera (viewing from the cosmos ig) of the plastic turn followed by the 2 large far away cam pole turns into the fin Edge - the narrow roads (always close to the edge) at the start and between the sand hills followed by the narrow road quarter pipe jump and jumps into the fin Tempest - the icy (snow and ice from the tempest) quarter pipe through narrow rings followed by the double icy qp into the fin Surf - reactor over water (surf the water) sharp drift turn followed by 3 sequential water drifts into the fin Etc you get the point xdd

these maps aren't built for discovery, they're built to be hunted and played competitively by the top players of the game, there are other maps built with easier discoverability in mind, like the 25 official campaign maps

I liked the Pipe map. So far the rest are visually terrible. I hate when there is no flow to the map and it seems like scrapie is struggling the entire way to make things work because the corners are all right angles, or with dumb forced camera changes that only stick for a single corner. For myself, any track that you can't tell where the path is is an immediate skip. Just not fun to watch or play unless it is specifically a kacky watching session.

I'd like to ask if you've considered that these maps will be played for 4 months with ample time before they are first played in competition and thus there is ample time to practice the maps and figure out or get used to the lines. In addition, these are Scrapie's first playthroughs of the maps and therefore he is unlikely to (and in fact did not) find all of the optimal strats and lines immediately. These maps have not been designed to be played in a fast learner cup nor to be catered to casual players (they will only be played by those attempting to reach the world championship) and designing them in such a way that the route is immediately obvious on the first run puts a fairly severe damper on creativity (aside from eg bad sign indications) - you must hear the complaints of "Oh another boring COTD map just like the 50 of its kind we've had before". And if you really struggle to understand the lines, there were videos of runs uploaded to KZbin by Nadeo. Lastly, I will say that I don't believe by any stretch that the maps are perfect, but they certainly aren't "terrible" and from a visual standpoint, the scenery looks good to me (obviously subjective) and the majority of the tracks are playable for the most part in any camera with some requiring changing for some sections - which I believe to be somewhat of a skill in itself to be able to effectively play with a different camera (of the standard 3 - cosmos is slightly YEK) for a small section of a map.

Also just to add, Scrapie is definitely a complainer when it comes to these discoveries and such. This is not necessarily a bad thing - it is part of the entertainment he provides for some and he isn't overtly toxic to others or the mappers for the most part and he generally tends to come around to a less extreme response after the initial 'reaction' or discovery. Just mentioned this as him reacting negatively initially doesn't mean that is the be all end all opinion :)
