I graduated from East in 1965 and followed the team for many years. In the days of Ernie Kavisto and John McDougal the Aurora teams were two state powerhouses and the rivalry was so intense that you couldn't get tickets unless you were season ticket holders. Looking at this video I see a third of the gym is empty. The rivalry may still be there but the community, although three times the population as in 1970. can't fill the gym. Interest seems to have evaporated.

Check out Centralia and Mt.Vernon . Now there's a rivalry! Centralia is the winningest team in the country. Mt. Vernon was in the top ten wins list a few years ago. West Aurora has 1 state title. East Aurora doesn't have any. Mt. Vernon has 4, Centralia 3.
