One of the (million) very cool things about Heartstopper is the fact that they lean into all kinds of romantic tropes but at the same time subvert expectations left, right and centre. ❤

One thing I love about Nick is by this point he knows what he's feeling, and he could have even nicely distanced himself from Charlie (He would NEVER be mean about it, just not him ) but he still asks him to the party, even though he is scared about what he is feeling for Charlie (And I think has to know Charlie has liked him since they first hung out. ) and what it may mean for his place in school. Almost every time he has a choice, he makes the brave one.

"Just grab his damn hand, I'm sick of this shit." 🤣 I love your video. As a gay man now in his fifties I wish I had witnessed the queer joy in Tara and Darcy's kiss when I was Nick's age. Peace.

I'm in my fifties too and wish I had this growing up as a closeted chubby gay boy in the midwest with conservative parents and knowing no other gay people. Only seeing an occasional gay person on TV or in movies. They were always portrayed as the bad or 'sick' person. This show would have helped me SOOO much.

@@davidd6759 Yes, the only representation I saw was that of someone outside of the crowd, the outsider, or the camp figure of fun. Definitely no-one considered 'normal'. I love that this show has the guts to normalise everyone in such an unapologetically positive way.

@sadfaery2 жыл бұрын
Your reaction to and comments about this episode are basically exactly what I thought (and still think) about this episode when I first saw it. It is just SO well done. And did you notice the look on Tara's face when Nick first mentioned Charlie? I think she realizes that Nick has feelings for Charlie beyond just friendship, but she didn't push him at all to say more than he was comfortable with. Before that, when Nick asked her why she was telling him she was a lesbian, the tone of his voice and look on his face suggested to me that maybe HE thought she was telling him because she saw some quality of queerness in him. That wasn't the case, but I feel like it captured that feeling of fear of people figuring out that you might not be straight when you're still coming to terms with it yourself. God, this show is just SO good, and so well done, with so many small details and so much nuance packed into just a few short but incredible episodes.

When Harry invited Nick to the 16th Birthday party, he told Nick he had to bring along some 'cool' people. Imogen was hanging out at the same picnic table and heard that. Imogen and Nick have been friends since Year 7 (for 5 years). Nick felt it was ok to invite this long-time friend to the party, just as Harry asked. Imogen does have a small crush on Nick but Nick is oblivious to that. (Imogen becomes less 'ditzy' as time goes on; she actually does some really positive things in future episodes.)

Everything about the show is superb from start to finish and the acting of the primary leads is hands down better than what is seen in most coming of age or any programming. Not that other programs don’t have good scenes, but here it’s unrelentingly excellent by the leads and generally with the other actors.

I agree with you about queer kisses on screen. I have watched so many shows, where the kiss, is like 1 sec or cut off, fade to black or interupped. And the straight kisses are long and romantic etc. I get so frustrated watching stuff like that. It happend to Malec in shadowhunters as well, love the pairing but it wasn't really treated like the straight couples when it came to the kissing scenes. When Nick and Charlie kissed, I was like damn that is a long kiss and well done. Also with Tara and Darcy. ❤🌈 Congrats!!! So happy to hear you are engaged to someone you love❤🥰

This show moves at a slower pace. Nick has a ways to go before he decides who he is, including what his specific sexuality is. It's best to watch this with a wait and see approach -- to see what actually will happen, rather than wanting the story to fit a prerconceived mold.

I personally was in the crowd, But, was different than the friends I loved, By men attracted to me them saying dude there are 3 types of gays the street see. Fish/Trish/Trade. Just trying to school you so you can make informed choices. I'm He/Him btw. But, I began to understand. I use to tell dudes hitting on me, I've only been gay for 3 days.lmmfao I swear. I love every firm of the lgbtq community. But, Biy Fish/Trish I couldn't bring to my family girlfriends or the Hood. i made the right choice for myself.

You were being really really harsh and judgmental when it came to Imogene. Remember, she’s a 15/16 year old girl who has a crush on Nick and as far as she knows he’s straight and single and they’ve been friends for years. She’s putting herself out there which is one of the bravest things she could do. And when she asks him if he likes her he doesn’t tell her no. It’s no different than Charlie having a crush on Nick and thinking that something more could be there. It’s not like she has evil intentions to keep him away from Charlie. You were harsher on her than you were on Harry and he was a complete homophobic jerk! 🙂 But this episode was amazing. That first kiss between Charlie and Nick was everything. I can’t tell you how many tears of joy I cried in this episode ❤️
