This reminds me of a thing I did in a game design class a couple years back. The assignment was to take a retro game and add some new mechanic to it so I chose Frogger and made it reverse. Enemy frogs are trying to invade your base so you (a green and pink frog) have to defend it by spawning cars to kill the invading frogs. There are two sides that cars could be spawned from. Spawning a car costs money but if it gets to the other side, the other side gets money and vice versa. So you have to keep sending cars back and forth to earn money (you do earn money passively though). Each type of vehicle has its own lane, so you just jump on the corresponding button to spawn the car you want.

There's gotta be a better way to play this. Do the number keys select which car to send? Selecting a car with the mouse clearly takes too long and makes you have to re-acquire the right lane each time.

This is more of a reverse of Freeway, a game for the Atari, released in 1981. That has you actually playing a chicken and trying to cross the road, moving in a straight line. In fact when you get across, you simply score a point and then start another chicken trying it. In hard-mode, getting hit by a car resets you to the start, like that chicken got killed.
