Why can’t anyone make a film this good anymore? Even the best directors can’t seem to pull it off. Or even get anywhere close, actually.

Modern directors make films over 3 hours. They seem to think it's necessary when it's not. Back in the day, great films were made in under 2 hours. Alas, those days seem to have passed.😢

@@DmPmRr1959They also think that it is necessary to have a lot of 4 letter words, nudity, graphic violence, etc.

Classic Movies rule, no politics, DEI, or wokeism, just great stories and awesome acting. All modern movies suck.

There's always been politics in movies. Its inclusion doesn't make something good or bad, either. No art is apolitical. Just because you might not recognise it doesn't mean it's not there. Also, if you think all modern movies suck, you might consider diversifying your viewing. There's a lot of good stuff out there. You're missing out.

@@alizarin89”No Art is apolitical” is yet another woke left wing fantasy. Nothing to do with “recognition”. As far as quality of today’s films, I can count on one hand the number of films I have seen since the turn of the century that are of this caliber.

@@alizarin89I think the big problem with many modern films isn't so much they're political, it's that they forcefully shoehorn politics into films that aren't inherently political.

@@Wintermute909Films aren't inherently anything. If a director or writer wants to make a political point with their story then that's their prerogative. It's a part of the process. You might as well say they're shoehorning dramatic conflict and colour palettes into movies too. I don't think there's any problem with cinema today, but if there is, it lies in the audience's obsessive need to see themselves reflected back in everything they consume.

A worthy addition to English film noir 4.5 / 5.

Wonderful movie I first saw about 30 years ago. Well acted in showing the London low life along with those few who had a sense of honor. In this viewing I noticed many striking black and white street scenes that perhaps were copied by Orson Wells in for example The Third Man. I am not familiar with the director. Perhaps some one can inform me as to who he was and what other films he directed

37:00 -- The beginning of this film is definitely on the Slow Side of Plot development, but then the escaped convict encounters a truly murderous wife. I could imagine this script surviving a 21st century reboot.

^^ This is a tricky bit of plot no matter how you slice it. The Wife presents the Convict with a Pistol, which the Convict obligingly touches. We can assume his fingerprints are now on the gun. So, why didn't he take the Pistol with him after he tells the Wife to do it herself? It would probably have made more sense for him to take the Pistol when he leaves and then immediately ditch it somewhere else, or at the very least, to take the ammunition. It strikes me as less believable that he doesn't see the additional complications of leaving the weapon with her; *he even tells her to do it herself.*

America can't stand unhappy or open endings. It destroys the fairy tale.

@@ElSantoLuchadorYes. In those days American films had to have upbeat endings, no matter how unrealistic. I prefer downbeat endings myself.

Assisto cinema desde os anos 50, todos eram legendados , alguém precisa notificar esse editor de vídeos no KZbin, que estamos no Brasil, português e o nosso idioma, editar filmes em INGLES, e não respeitar a comunidade brasileira...

I'm not sure who you mean. If you mean the google/youtube auto-captions aren't available for you in Brazil, then that's a fair complaint, but it would be more effective to directly complain to KZbin. But if you mean Chris T (the person who uploaded this video) is just a fan of old films and he just uploads old public domain films as they are, and allows the whole world to access them for free. It would almost be impossible for a single person to translate & provide subtitles for every single language. Especially since he doesn't get paid for it.
