As someone with autism, I'd say neither of them heave it. That's my take based on intuition. There is still a logical bassis for my arguments. I think Frieren's quirks are very clearly a result of her life span and the people with whom she had deep connections. The reason she collects spells the way she does is deeply sentimental. Speaking from experience , hyperfixation is usually not something that comes about for a particularly deep reason like that. Also, even neurotipical people would fixate on something with that much sentimental weight to it. In Maomoa's case, I believe her personality can be attributed to the way she was raised than autism. (Spoiler warning) She was hated by her mother after birth and lived with her uncle, who was a father figure to her, but her situation is akin to being raised by a lone grandparent. This is a bit of armchair psychology stuff, but it's even likely that deep down, she did the poison experiments on herself as a form of punishment for being born ruted in her mother's rejection. Hopefully, my arguments were convincing if you want a character from a show that I think is very clearly autistic that would be Reina Ahaharen from Aharen San wa Hakararenai.

Frieren is debatable, as she's an elf and can't really by judged by human standards. By human standards, she seems on the spectrum, but that may simply be how elves are by virtue of their long lives. Maomao, however, is definitely on the spectrum somewhat, though high functioning. It's not unique to her in their universe, as her family line has quite a few... eccentrics... that seem on the spectrum themselves. It seems hereditary in their case. You'll probably see more in season 2, but you already got a hint of it from knowing who her parents are.

I have high functioning autism / level 1 autism and Id say that yea, its very likely that they both have autism as well, most likely also level 1 as its pretty slight but there are a lot of things I see in them that were attributed to the diagnosis given to me, I dont know if the authors meant for them to have autism but I would not be surprised at all if that was the case Edit/adding context: On the symptoms you saw at the end you said you didnt see them as having unusual speech but Id disagree in Frierens case, because in the past when shes with Flamme we see that she has trouble communicating and doesnt talk a lot, and when she does talk it comes across as emotionless, which is kind of fitting for that symptom, its very likely that she learned to communicate better over the years tho as that is a symptom that can be overcome with speech therapy and just overall aging

as a person who was once super into anime, and has in recent years fallen off of watching anime/reading manga due to the western community around it and also the fact that most anime's in a season are mid to actively bad... This channel is a god send for fishing for recommendations on what I should watch as I recently became longing for those feelings I once felt towards anime, thanks for that and keep doing amazing as you do.
