A pop song changing key 18 times, most pop songs never change key. At most once or twice, this song is quite the enigma; I’ve been listening to it for years, and I still keep finding little details in this song.
@norbicsek Жыл бұрын
It's not really 18 distinct key changes as much as just constant modulation that sorta breaks the concept of "key". It reminds me of how some music academics argue that Prophetiae Sibyllarum by renaissance composer Orlando di Lasso is "functionally atonal", because it modulates so often, and is so full of extreme chromatic shifts, that it just never settles on a tonal center for long enough that the listener could register it as home key. I love this kinda stuff, my favorite band, Cardiacs also does this a lot - I highly recommend you check out the songs Goodbye Grace, Big Ship, and Dirty Boy, if you like weird pop music that feels like it changes key every couple seconds.
@louisgrissman485711 ай бұрын

I grew up with this song- my dad (he recently turned 50) had DVDs of a bunch of their music videos. I watched their for-kids stuff like Here Comes Science, but this was my favorite in what I called the “Dad’s Might Be Giants” DVDs. I’m turning 20 next year, and this is my favorite song of all time. Dad and I are seeing them in concert in December after nearly a 3 year wait, haha! He’s seen them twice in concert before but this is my first time. I'm your only friend I'm not your only friend But I'm a little glowing friend But really I'm not actually your friend But I am Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch Who watches over you Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul I have a secret to tell From my electrical well It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells So the room must listen to me Filibuster vigilantly My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e My story's infinite Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch Who watches over you Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul I'm your only friend I'm not your only friend But I'm a little glowing friend But really I'm not actually your friend But I am There's a picture opposite me Of my primitive ancestry Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck free Though I respect that a lot I'd be fired if that were my job After killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts Bluebird of friendliness Like guardian angels its always near Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch Who watches over you Make a little birdhouse in your soul Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul (and while you're at it Keep the nightlight on inside the Birdhouse in your soul) Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch (and while you're at it) Who watches over you (keep the nightlight on inside the) Make a little birdhouse in your soul (birdhouse in your soul) Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch (and while you're at it) Who watches over you (keep the nightlight on inside the) Make a little birdhouse in your soul (birdhouse in your soul) Not to put too fine a point on it Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Not only is this the best song and video to come out of the '90s, it's the best THING to come out of that decade (in which riches were abundant).

In a just and fair universe, this song would've been #1 for about 12 weeks.

I truly feel like the 90's were the last decade when the music coming out was good more often than not. Seems like people are really easily impressed these days.

I primarily listen to metal and hip hop. But I will get down with some They Might be Giants. Flood was on in my room quite a bit as a teenager.

Why is the world in love again? Why are we marching hand in hand? Why are the ocean levels rising up? It’s a brand new record for 1990. They Might Be Giants brand new album Flood.
