@39:57 , the way jon writes his lyrics is pretty unique, he prioritizes the feel and sound of certain words together (for example “leaky Barbie TV party pee in the park”), a lot of his lyrics come off as nonsensical but he writes about some really deep shit sometimes like existential dread and psychedelic phenomena. He’s blurring the line between having fun and being serious

Yes! I came to comments, knowing DGDNation would have provided the sweet intel. My follow up would be that it my understanding, from the get-go and well into today: The primary idea behind the band is to have fun making (good) music. I think that applies lyrically, also. Another great watch through! Agreed, it's INSANE that these guys seem to only improve!!
@seankillar1232 жыл бұрын
i like to think jons lyrics represents the shit he have in our heads at times which we hide from people while tillians smooth & melodic vocals represents what we try to appeal to people there are times where they both sing together I.E "Am I the reason that you can't look past your future self?" part from variation represents our minds and actions are in sync (which imo makes the lyrics dramatic)

also if you really anaylyze their lyrics it has so much depth it mostly deals about yearning for love and acceptance from other people but you're emotionally unavailable (social trauma) so you resort to "instant gratification" the end result is your soul being lost from materialistic practices which is the theme of the last two songs.......(just my perspective)

Yes but don't sleep on mastodon their like a darker sludgier type of dgd band they are very busy progressive and psychedelic but take post hardcore out and place rock instead
@blacktoblack72923 жыл бұрын
in the chorus inside "variation" they say "stuck and glued", which is a throwback to secret band, which will swan, jon mess, drummer play in as another project. Also mothership is next, and holy crap...

Tilian, the clean singer, said that this album was a sort of consolidation between him and the band, he made some nice hooks with his vocals and merged perfectly with Jon (unclean singer) and the rest of the amazing guys. And you can feel it, since this album, the catchy parts began. That doesn't mean that the last ones didn't have it, but there was some huge difference. Tilian was for sure a great level up for the band... In my opinion. Without leaving aside Will's awesome parts, Tim's upfront bass and Matt's technique.

Mothership has some cool tracks but this album is better as a whole imo
@EmilianoSoca3 жыл бұрын
@@Swagaroni Yeah, both are really good, I prefer Mothership cause it's heavier and more technical, but as Josiah said, Mothership doesn't have the same interaction between Tilian and Jon, which it is in Instant Gratification, going back and forth and also sounds more poppy, so both are amazing, with different elements and styles that definitely makes them their best albums. Each album has their style and vibe, that's unique

DGD has claimed to be somewhat of a parody in the sense that they include lyrics that dont mean anything. Some of the lyrics do mean stuff tho. Also they go for a different sound every album so rather than considering it progression its more of a different vibe every album
@YwKSniping3 жыл бұрын
so tilians lyrics are usually based on one of two things: romance or religion- he grew up with a scientologist father and you can see the themes specifically in "inspire the liars" (you havent heard yet) and "lost", and much of the other ones are clearly aimed at a love interest or about an ex jons lyrics are usually complete or mostly complete nonsense, he just makes it sound good but among the nonsense you can usually find some themes that are related to the general idea of the song the recurring song titles "robot, strawberry" etc are not usually directly referenced in the songs but when they are its usually a few lines thrown in, in jons lyrics
@EmilianoSoca3 жыл бұрын
