No, no. You also die the way you bedded yourself (a saying in my country). Ruan could have been a peculiar guy, maybe not maintaining a good relationship with his sister and her descendants. Breaking through such family relations and the dynamic isn't easy and I think almost everybody commenting here has / or knows such a thing. His caretaker also took an advantage in it, not saying he had negative intentions, though. Living with someone and not knowing or going through their papers would be a "miracle", meaning it's unlikely nobody knew anything of it. I don't agree with his further family/ great-nieces/nephews not deserving a normal part of the heritage. Not scum in my eyes and too many assumptions from Andy's side, like e.g. "they waited for him to pass away".

Some of us don’t come from good family backgrounds (me myself being a child abuse survivor) and we end up creating a family like this, where you sorta adopt each other and be there for one another. Liu and his family adopted Ruan and treated him with love, dignity and respect, to them they didn’t do any of this for financial gain but because they loved him, to them his happiness and comfort was more important than anything else. Sadly Ruan’s blood family clearly never truly loved him and only cared for his money and property, not seeing him as a cherished family member and only viewing him as a payday, it’s sickening but sadly far too common for elderly people who get used for their money (there’s a lot of elder abuse). My “family” is like Liu’s, informally adopted people where we love each other, you could be the poorest or richest and that genuinely doesn’t matter, I just want my family to be healthy, happy and loved, I’d always prefer to have my chosen family alive and in my life over any potential riches they’d leave behind, their happiness means more to me than any riches this world has to offer.

There's no "faking" keeping an old lonely man company, friendship and giving him your own family to be around for years just because it's all in the plan. I mean even if it is, you still were genuinely there for him. Intentions may not have been as pure, but it literally wouldn't matter. Why am I commenting this? The fact the young man never knew about the other homes allowed the old man to finally find someone in his life who was happy to help him and care for him for just who he was and not for what he could gain. A close friend of mine once befriended a sweet, elderly lady who lived next door. Whenever he had some free time, he would take his young children to visit her. They would spend hours together, playing board games like Scrabble and Monopoly, bringing joy to the old lady's days. Over time, he learned that she had three daughters, none of whom ever visited her. Despite her warmth and kindness, she was often alone. Then, one day, the inevitable happened: the old lady passed away. To my friend's surprise, she left him her entire estate and savings-an inheritance worth around a million dollars. Feeling a deep sense of responsibility, my friend tried to reach out to her daughters to discuss returning the money. When he finally managed to contact them, he was met with cold indifference. They wanted nothing to do with their mother, and one daughter even expressed relief at her passing, telling him he could keep whatever she had left him and thanked him for taking care of her mom. It seem that all the daughters were all well off. It became clear that their past was filled with unresolved conflicts.
