"They Only Have Themselves To Blame!" More Than Half the Public 'Do Not Trust' Police To Solve Crime

Voters are losing faith in the police after a spate of scandals and a rise in offences including shoplifting and cybercrime, polling has revealed.
A YouGov survey found a lack of confidence, with more than half of the public saying they do not trust the police to solve crimes and over a third saying they have no faith in the authorities to maintain law and order.
The Times Crime and Justice Commission, which will report next April, will take evidence from across the criminal justice system and draw up a radical blueprint for far-reaching reform.
TalkTV's Vanessa Veltz is joined by former Met police detective Peter Bleskley, who argues modern policing has 'turned its back' on the general public.

Had friends and family in the force, one was in the MET. They all left because they didn't feel like they were backed up by fellow police or the senior officers. One was run over (while with a sergeant) the people involved were known (but foreign) nothing happened. In the end, he had to leave due to severe injuries. To this day, no one held accountable.

I had two cars stolen from my parking. Got the security camera footage and identified who it was from the local social housing. Due to their juvenile status (they stole my cars and then set on fire), the Police would not prosecute and said if the security footage was not deleted then I could be charged for filming children. - You cant make this stuff up! Where I live now has private security as the Police are a joke... a bad joke.

When I was a schoolboy, in Broughton, Flintshire, 1960's 70's. the local Bobby, was Mr Hughes, he would be out on his bicycle, every day, when you turned around, he seemed to always be there. Everyone knew him, everyone liked him, I think he knew every kid in the village by name. If you had a problem, he would listen. He was always giving advice, not only right from wrong. He was so much more than a policeman. I don't think any such police exist anymore

There are a lot of good officers tainted by the few. Also tainted by the idiotic decisions made by senior officers currently around public order. To see officers stand by and watch people clamber over our war memorials to attach offensive flags is just unreal. Those officers are letting themselves down.

I disagree. The whole culture of the police is rotten, from top to bottom. This is inevitable human nature when you set up a police gang. Them and us mentality. What we also have is a culture of laziness. The police are a combination of bad officers with too weak officers. The ones that stand by and do nothing whilst their colleagues are behaving badly. The very rare good police officers tend to get hounded out of the organisation. Just look at a selection of videos from Crimebodge, Auditing Britain, Focus Pocus etc etc etc.

How can the police solve a crime when they don’t come out to the crime? The police are unfit for purpose across the uk. An those that are good are shamed by those that are bad. An most police services are bad. The met police are clearly the Islam protection service. An other would fall into that if you include those that had groom gangs in their area. The police never go from one call to another call. They go from one McDonald’s or coffeehouse to the other. They definitely don’t go from one crime to another. Don’t understand how a police person can spend the hole time inside the station doing next to thing. It’s no wonder that communities don’t have beat constables/officers. An the rest are driving round at 30 mph, if they are two up in the vehicle your guaranteed to have one on their phone. If they are one up then you know they are going to do nothing.

As a retired police officer, I don't recognise what I see nowadays. When we went out on duty you were proud to do the job, but I wouldn't feel that now. We were respected because we knew the law, we spoke/approached the public, we were tidy and professional. I don't see that today. Police spend too much time in their cars and not getting out of their vehicles and interacting with the public. Even as I went up through the ranks, I would still walk on many events and speak to the public. Police in my humble opinion are too distanced from the public they serve.

I live in Essex and on a app called next door. A message from the police came up that their dedicated team of sex crime investigators has arrested how ever many pedophiles. Inportant work children need to be protected against pedophiles. But I don't understand why this kind of thing can't be out soused to civilians with the proper training? Freeing up police to do the job they are payed to do. I know someone who was burgeled 5 month ago she phoned the police no one came out on the night but she was given a crime number and told someone would be out to her as soon as possible. In the meantime could she make a list of everything stolen. So far she's still waiting. Yet we see police sitting on the moterway with speed gun's and as we go by some are asleep. So no I'd no longer trust the police and if I have to I will protect my home in my own way. Or see a fight I'll break it up

There is no doubt the average bobby is an honest dedicated professional, alas as in every profession now good policemen are bypassed for inferiors who fit a political agenda. There has been recruitment of almost a generation of Police who never wanted to do shift work - work weekends or interact with the rough end of the public without resorting to a taser, I'm sure Peter Blesley was of a generation who in uniform had a baton and was for the most part able to deal with anyone by his command presence. The thing that most people fail to realise unless they are confronted by what the Police regard as unimportant crime - like shop lifting, car crime, and burglary is that they are low level "insurance will pay" crime is 'unimportant' until a victim comes into the mix, a shop assistant gets in the way of a teenage girl shop lifter and is face slammed or worse razored, knife crime is a real and present danger in car jacking / theft, and consider a scenario that starts with a burglary of a flat/ house and a nubile young woman is getting out of a bath, - does anyone think the perpetrator is going to gallantly hand the girl a towel say "sorry madam" and beat a hasty retreat, anyone who thinks it is okay to burgle and steal property is well down the road to violating the sanctity of a woman's body, that's why the offence of burglary has a Mens Rea component of breaking into property for the purpose of theft, criminal damage, bodily harm and sexual assault / rape. But it goes further I had the dubious bad luck to be attached to vice, and everyone knew as day followed night - if you had an Peeping tom or a Arnold Lane washing line thief on your patch, you had very a limited time before it escalated, but from the late 1980s until now that was almost down rated to a none crime and soon so will child abuse - the prats are already coining terms like MAPs, and then you wonder why woman have no confidence in reporting sex crimes. But a further point rightfully praising police diligence for very serious crimes like murder (although the victim is never restored) and terrorism is all very well but it is the lesser preventatives, the de-escalation where the real interaction with the public is paramount, just go on line and watch these ridiculous interactions with the 'annoying auditors' how often does a simple encounter with young officers, sometimes even PCSO end up with some-one doing a Section 42 Terrorism Act search for 'hostile reconnaissance' against advice by even College of Policing, when the reality the police officers time would be better utilised with doing low level anti-crime patrol - the reason Robert Peel set up the MET in 1828. The chances of a thin blue line (a gang tat) wearing constable - solving terrorism by patting down a camera carrying auditor like AB (others are available) is next to zero, but not falling into a woke racism trap and keeping your wits about you while doing general duties at a concert frequented by teenage girls might just have saved the world entire.
