Once a leader in the football boots industry, times have changed for Umbro football boots. Between pricing, design, features and overall performance, so many of the decisions they've made over the last few years have been questionable to say the least. Did they get it right this year?
In today's video we take a closer look at the new Umbro Tocco 4 Pro, their latest $250 top-end offering. While the pricing is definitely still questionable, the fit, feel and general quality of the latest Tocco feels like a gigantic improvement over what they've been up to over the last few years! Are they as good as the competition though? We discuss exactly that as we go over all of the details of the Tocco 4, ultimately determining whether or not you should be considering Umbro football boots for the first time in a long time.

I can't imagine spending $250 for these when the 442 is $140. For $250 from a lower tier brand, they really need to knock it out of the park.

For the big brands it’s very much changing for the sake of change in order to get more hype which unfortunately can lead to a very disappointing product. When brands like Umbro does it and the price they put at it’s just pathetic

I kinda liked the Medusae, which were cheaper, light and comfy, the only downside was their short studs for FG

Just hope they keep on this path,do the same on their other lines and maybe kinda just stick with boots having a leather upper given they’re good at that. It’s just sad to think how incredibly hard they had fallen off. Umbro used to be a brand that was a great alternative if you want to outside adidas and Nike.

Random thoughts here. I’ve been recently been getting more into jogging as a side hobby on top of soccer. The two main technologies for running shoes are: 1. Soft foam which decompresses and springs you back on each step 2. Carbon plates within the foam which further give runners energy return on every stride. Would like to see soccer boots use these same technologies for a more cushioned experience during games/ training. I know ASICS has heel raise technology but would love to see more of the big brands do it

Soft foams aren't more looked for because playing on grass is way softer than running on tarmac or trails, and heel rise is not looked after for sports that have very agressive lateral movement like soccer or tennis. Maybe the only exception to this is basketball, but they need high cushioning because of the jumps, the hard ground and the weight of the players (although proportionaly slim in general, they are generally higher and thus heavier) Some boots have carbon plates, although nowadays way less options than in the 2010's, and generally partial plates

With the demands for quick cuts and high levels of force on the ground, which as you say is softer than roads, then yes soccer boots obviously need more stability and not as much decompression during landing/ cutting. I’m curious to see if some level of technology crossovers could happen though, if stability was retained yet players would get a softer experience for heels during 90 minutes of play, and that the boots could give more energy return on every step (to help players with speed, bounce and even jump height) Just generally keen to see some new technological advancements in soccer boots, I feel like there has been some stagnation for a while

Styling wise they remind me of "modernized" leather boots from 2008 through 2012 or 13. Not a bad thing though.

Don't think it matters that it's not kangaroo leather. The calf skin leather on the copa 2 is the softest I've ever felt, and I have a tiempo 9, Morelia 4 beta. The biggest problem Umbro have is the branding and the price. Just like Skechers, who the heck wants the Umbro logo on their boots? And the price is ridiculous.
