When you brush the dogs, you need to hold the hair up against the grain with one hand and brush down from the part down. That way, you are getting the undercoat instead of the top of their hair because you need the bottom coat brushed out. The undercoat keep them insulated, and they do not need that in this weather zone. Some people have them cut short because they don't like shedding but the joke is on them they still shed just not as long😆 Just watch for hot spots as it gets warmer. They could get sores(hot spots) . I'm not complaining by any means I've groomed all breads since I was 16, and now retired but I'm 68 and still remember 🤪😆♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏😉🐾

That matted fur ob Lola is her winter coat the last winter that Chad had her, I think. She just was never able to shed it completely. She never had it before then. So brushing it out is good for her.

Yes, pigs require copper...if they root and the soils's deficient in copper (sandy soil with oak and pines around= copper deficiency) this deficiency will affect tyrosine which controls melanin which can control hair colour. However, her breed is black hair with orange nappy hair on top.

​@@angelnolan2840 you're so welcome. I didn't work a whole lot with pigs...so looked it up because I know goats will fade from back to rust...I'm honestly not sure if pigs will. You know, I never found an answer. I do know they have a requirement for copper though and I do know they need so much per feed: 'The requirement for Cu by pigs is 5 to 10 mg/kg diet, however, Cu can be included at growth-promoting levels (i.e., 75 to 250 mg/kg diet) in diets for weanling and growing pigs to reduce post-weaning diarrhea and improve growth performance.' People that scream 'the goats can eat grain'...or 'I saw on You Tube where they do'...just like pigs, there's different diets and different needs for what the animal is used for...for wethers/over weight oinkers....grain's a no-no. I wonder if this is it: 'What can happen if an animal becomes deficient in copper? Clinical signs of copper deficiency are most prominent in young, growing animals and may include reduced growth rate, rough and depigmented hair, diarrhea, osteoporosis with spontaneous fractures, and anemia. In lambs, copper deficiency can produce a demyelinating syndrome known as swayback or enzootic ataxia.'

I just heard Matt telling you that people have been suggesting that you dip the chickens in cold water. I guess that's supposed to get them to lay eggs? Well that brought up a little ditty that my sister-in-law used to sing to my son when he was a baby and when he was a little bit older too and he thought it was so funny. It goes like this: I had a little chicky and she wouldn't lay an egg so I poured hot water up and down her leg and the little chicky cried and the little chicky bagged and the little chicky laid a hard boiled egg.

As an idea Grandpa, why don't you keep all the fur from the dogs and animals and put it for the birds in a container from the feeder for them to take and help build nests with. I've done this in the past and it's an extra interest to watch. Good job with the tarps on thar animals cage!! Matt is doing well and braved the chickens more today by taking their eggs.
