The comments made my think about a few points and tested how I approach things. I think that's healthy and something worth exploring. The whole purpose of my reselling/youtube is something I often question. It was clear before... I could spend more time with my kids. Now that has changed, why do it... would it be better to up my full time job hours? - I could always take annual/unpaid leave over the school holidays on wednesdays to spend the same time with the kids. Its something I'll continually question but for now just being an enjoyable hobby is enough

Well done Ian very well said, im similar I could go back to full time job being miserable having a boss breathing down my neck etc. I wouldn't change it for the world, im happy, mental health better than ever, Im doing some thing I love & most importantly im present at home for my children & wife. Old job I was always working late & missing all types of things, made me miserable. Life is about being happy & spending time with your loved ones, this job ticks all those boxes for me.

Don't take comments to heart mate, its your life and how you choose to spend it is up to you. I could probably make more money working for someone else but then I already work full time. My business is my business, I don't answer to anyone but myself, I choose the hours and involve spending time with my family. Basically its not a business but a hobby that makes money. A hobby is done in leisure time for pleasure, don't let anyone steal your dream.

I am also a part time reseller. My two work colleagues do regular weekend overtime and I don't. I earn slightly more than they do. But I have more fun (and get lots of cool stuff ) whereas they have a 6th day of work. I am much less likely to burn out than they are, just due to the variety that reselling offers.

I think this guy with his great viewpoints....is missing the biggest loophole in his arguments...You are doing it part time along with your normal daily job, so unlike other KZbinrs who are full time, you aren't pushing the same type of message. The fact he has tried to work out earnings like you are doing this full time is missing the whole HOBBY part of it. Pretty enjoyable listening to you break down his response, maybe you will get another articulate reply haha.

I agree with you, the guy has some great points. Unfortunately he has his numbers wrong and doesn't see the bigger picture. While his daughter is earning £13 an hour at Lidl, that's less time he has with her (something money can't buy). She also is told the hours she can work, where as you can pick it choose them and on top of that you have no boss to answer to. Then finds like that watch push your money over £9 an hour. Some people can't see outside the box for being too narrow minded or institutionalized. It's great that you answered him, you could have just left a comment under his post tho... "Thanks for the comment noted".

Very admirable response once again! Another factor is sitting on a chair for 8 hours a day vs getting in the steps, walking around shops and car boots has obvious health benefits to it as well! Plus the memory time, the excitement the kids get 'cos they see how excited you are is something that money can't buy at all. Also that first ad placement was magical 😁 I'm only just starting out on my journey and this video has made me want to keep at it and do more!

Hey Ian, I am sure you already know this, you don't need to explain yourself to anyone - but it does make for a good video ;) I've been watching and learning from you for about 3 years. You've helped me do a better job, along with the usual You Tubers, of getting rid of some of the mountain of hoarded stuff I have in my garage and around my house. One thing your commentor seems to miss is that it's fun, you can't over-estimate the value of something that is fun to do. I for one spend hours trying to fix old electronic stuff for myself and other people. It doesn't make me money, but it is fun - that's the point. Anyway, keep up the good work :)

Hi there! I am loving selling and reselling. My English verbal artillery has increased so much. The jargon used to describe items is new to me, for example: " This jacket has faux fur trim around the hood" 😅😅😅 Plus, when I drop items I sold, I walk along a beautiful path, this way it allows me to tick my Winter Wellness Walk too.I have been in another business for over 20 years. The returns were minimal, but I carried on 🎉 This new venture which I like it is opening my eyes to other wider possibilities which I wouldn't contemplate should I be working somewhere else. I have been autonomous most of my life. We shall no get distracted by others who don't agree with our choices. Good video 🎉

But more importantly we've found loads of stuff to collect!! I quite like Warhammer, I recently found some old models from my childhood for literally pennies that sell for decent £££ on eBay, now I could have just worked my day off and bought them all but it's not the same , it's about the hunt!! Tell the person to do one, I ha e been watching you for 18 months and it has helped me out ALOT buying and selling, I to do it for a hobbie and find it really interesting finding different items that other people don't want anymore. Plus I have a full time job and I really don't fancy working in Lidl or another company just to make some extra cash. I go out to charity shops when I want to rather than be stuck to certain hours and not enjoy the job. Reselling is interesting and gives me a buzz when I find that item that reminds me of my youth rather than stacking shelves. Plus you are still at home and you spend time with your family which really matters and the look on your kids face when he finds that gem is PRICELESS. Keep up the good work and ignore the stupid comments by this very jealous person. ❤

Fantastic video & response. A lot of what you said really hit home with me! As a full-time reseller i often come across people that don't really understand what I do, why I do it or if it's even financially viable & sometimes I even question this myself. Then I remember why I got into this. I think for a lot of us, reselling is a lifestyle choice as well as a job. It started off as a hobby & I loved it so much I built myself up to a point that I could do it full-time. I love the freedom, I love being my own boss, I love the treasure hunt & I don't care how many hours it takes me to earn a living. It's a passion & I'm driven to get up everyday & do it which gives me purpose & makes me a happier person. Could I earn slightly more with a normal 9-5 job? Probably yes but I'd be absolutely miserable.

Yes I could go down to Lidl and get a part time job or do a few hours at an ice cream shop BUT that would tie me down for set hours on set days of the week. I have my regular full time job and resell on the side, the last thing I want is another boss man lol reselling provides the freedom to make a few extra quid on the side on my own time schedule 👍🏼

Asking the question. Do you want to sell ice cream at £14 p/h working for someone else and doing a job that you don’t necessarily want to do working the hours that are dictated to you. Or Do you continue doing what you enjoy? Building the collection, spending time with family and creating content that many of us enjoy watching. We could all say I could work more or harder or retrain and earn more money but there is that question, do you want to? Do you need to? Do you have to? Seems like a work/life balance and a point of wellness and if it’s a hobby you enjoy, then that is all that matters.

Yes that’s 10 hours of ‘work’ but what else would I have been doing in those hours. Who’s going to employee someone between 6-11am on a weekend morning and let them have the day off when they have other arrangements or don’t fancy it? Also, I enjoy those hours in the morning to myself, finding bargains. I can’t say I would enjoy working 6-11 in my normal job on a weekend. Keep it up part time resellers!

It's about happiness, Money is just the currency that someone gives you in exchange for your time ( a job ) generally compensation for doing somthing you don't enjoy! Keep doing what you love mate! And spending quality time with the family and teaching them at the same time. The commentor doesn't seem to have alot going on and probably bitter is and miserable person! If it's the highlight of there life to look at others and tell them what there doing wrong ( in his eyes ) then perhaps they should take a good look at them selfs! Why is he worried about what money you have in your pocket? Anyway love the channel love the vibe and keeping doing what makes you happy mate!

Ian, your enthusiasm for collecting is obvious and you make great videos. The money is a bonus. He's a troll who has no understanding of the positives you gain from your hobby. Keep doing what you do.

And on the back of this guys comments you have monetised via a youtube vid , well done you owe him an Ice cream ! You really can't put a price on something you love and are passionate about and making a few quid at the same time. There is another benefit, videos like your an others have inspired me and others no doubt to start my own selling story in something I'm really passionate about and have seen my sales grow month on month and am now clearing £1200 a month Gross , I don't need to do it as semi retired but I get great satisfaction from it. I won't be doing youtube as not my thing.

Reselling paid off my debt, Reselling paid for my wedding, reselling built my vintage toy collection, reselling pays my household bills every month. I do it one day a week like you. I earn money for doing something i enjoy. Stop giving this viewer any more of your time. Please

No disrespect but 98% of Resellers do this for the lifestyle not the monetary gain... I would rather do 40 hours a week at £10 an hour doing something I enjoy at my own pace with nobody telling me what to do, going on holiday when I want, having a day off when I want, spending more time at home... then serving ice cream for £13 an hour for someone else to make money from my hard work... time is more valuable then money. So £9-£10 an hour is just fine and dandy for me, I enjoy my work, I enjoy my life and more importantly I enjoy my freedom.

£9 an hour to do something you enjoy or work at aldi or serve ice cream. I know which id choose. Plus all the stuff youve found for your personal collection. Imagine youd bought all them at full price. I mean ive never seen vintage transformers in Aldi

The guy doesn’t understand it’s a hobby that also makes you money. People that don’t do eBay etc don’t understand. Strange he has gone to such lengths to take the time out and justify his commitment. Personally I think he has nothing better to do. Ian you hit the nail on the head. It’s a hobby that you enjoy and it’s making you feel happy and makes money 😊😊😊😊

The whole point they are missing is that you enjoy it, get to add to your own collections and can do it in your own time. Will always be negative Nancy’s with noting better to do but knock others down.

I haven’t listened to his entire comment yet, however what I will say is… You cannot control how people react to you… Sometimes the only thing you CAN control is how YOU react in any given situation… the way you’ve handled this situation is a lesson to all of us… me personally… I think the bloke is a sad W⚓️…🍺👍🏻

There is nothing wrong with anything you do. Reselling is like a hobby it's something you can do that is fun. Working at lidle isn't. Sometimes it's not all about the money... As long as your not making a loss 😂

They sound like a right prize one Ian, you don't have to justify anything to them, please don't respond to them directly in future, it just gives them validation, regardless of what you say. Don't feed the fire. You're right about the magic and the hunt though, can't price that.

Sounds very much like a chap I had dealings with on Ebay, he left me a negative feeback and followed up with a ton or messages telling me i was a scammer and to get a proper job 😆. I don't think some folk understand the enjoyment in sourcing and selling! Maybe he's a failed reseller, and envy is getting the better of him. Either way, block and crack on with your hobby and the great content 👌

In my opinion you do not have to justify your hobby with anyone. Whatever you make from Ebay or youtube is private and nobody else's business. I think there is a huge amount of envy here, if this person doesn't like what you do don't watch your channel. A the end of the day it's a hobby. Keep up the good work, really enjoy your content❤

You shouldn't have to justify yourself to some faceless keyboard warrior. It's always easier to pull someone else down then go and do something constructive yourself, which these guys do. At the end of the day you are making a little extra money doing something you enjoy, and that's a gift in itself. Also the time you got to spend with the wee lads and the enjoyment they got and still get out of it is priceless.
