The comments made my think about a few points and tested how I approach things. I think that's healthy and something worth exploring. The whole purpose of my reselling/youtube is something I often question. It was clear before... I could spend more time with my kids. Now that has changed, why do it... would it be better to up my full time job hours? - I could always take annual/unpaid leave over the school holidays on wednesdays to spend the same time with the kids. Its something I'll continually question but for now just being an enjoyable hobby is enough

Well done Ian very well said, im similar I could go back to full time job being miserable having a boss breathing down my neck etc. I wouldn't change it for the world, im happy, mental health better than ever, Im doing some thing I love & most importantly im present at home for my children & wife. Old job I was always working late & missing all types of things, made me miserable. Life is about being happy & spending time with your loved ones, this job ticks all those boxes for me.

Don't take comments to heart mate, its your life and how you choose to spend it is up to you. I could probably make more money working for someone else but then I already work full time. My business is my business, I don't answer to anyone but myself, I choose the hours and involve spending time with my family. Basically its not a business but a hobby that makes money. A hobby is done in leisure time for pleasure, don't let anyone steal your dream.

I agree with you, the guy has some great points. Unfortunately he has his numbers wrong and doesn't see the bigger picture. While his daughter is earning £13 an hour at Lidl, that's less time he has with her (something money can't buy). She also is told the hours she can work, where as you can pick it choose them and on top of that you have no boss to answer to. Then finds like that watch push your money over £9 an hour. Some people can't see outside the box for being too narrow minded or institutionalized. It's great that you answered him, you could have just left a comment under his post tho... "Thanks for the comment noted".

Plus the memory time, the excitement the kids get 'cos they see how excited you are is something that money can't buy at all. Also that first ad placement was magical 😁 I'm only just starting out on my journey and this video has made me want to keep at it and do more!

Hey Ian, I am sure you already know this, you don't need to explain yourself to anyone - but it does make for a good video ;) I've been watching and learning from you for about 3 years. You've helped me do a better job, along with the usual You Tubers, of getting rid of some of the mountain of hoarded stuff I have in my garage and around my house. One thing your commentor seems to miss is that it's fun, you can't over-estimate the value of something that is fun to do. I for one spend hours trying to fix old electronic stuff for myself and other people. It doesn't make me money, but it is fun - that's the point. Anyway, keep up the good work :)

Hi there! I am loving selling and reselling. My English verbal artillery has increased so much. The jargon used to describe items is new to me, for example: " This jacket has faux fur trim around the hood" 😅😅😅 Plus, when I drop items I sold, I walk along a beautiful path, this way it allows me to tick my Winter Wellness Walk too.I have been in another business for over 20 years. The returns were minimal, but I carried on 🎉 This new venture which I like it is opening my eyes to other wider possibilities which I wouldn't contemplate should I be working somewhere else. I have been autonomous most of my life. We shall no get distracted by others who don't agree with our choices. Good video 🎉

I go out to charity shops when I want to rather than be stuck to certain hours and not enjoy the job. As a full-time reseller i often come across people that don't really understand what I do, why I do it or if it's even financially viable & sometimes I even question this myself. Then I remember why I got into this. I think for a lot of us, reselling is a lifestyle choice as well as a job. It started off as a hobby & I loved it so much I built myself up to a point that I could do it full-time. I love the freedom, I love being my own boss, I love the treasure hunt & I don't care how many hours it takes me to earn a living. It's a passion & I'm driven to get up everyday & do it which gives me purpose & makes me a happier person. Could I earn slightly more with a normal 9-5 job? Probably yes but I'd be absolutely miserable.

Asking the question. Do you want to sell ice cream at £14 p/h working for someone else and doing a job that you don’t necessarily want to do working the hours that are dictated to you. Or Do you continue doing what you enjoy? Building the collection, spending time with family and creating content that many of us enjoy watching. We could all say I could work more or harder or retrain and earn more money but there is that question, do you want to? Do you need to? Do you have to? Seems like a work/life balance and a point of wellness and if it’s a hobby you enjoy, then that is all that matters.

Great video and a very narrow minded view from them. In my case, going to a couple Carboots Saturday and Sunday morning, get home by 11. Yes that’s 10 hours of ‘work’ but what else would I have been doing in those hours. Who’s going to employee someone between 6-11am on a weekend morning and let them have the day off when they have other arrangements or don’t fancy it? Also, I enjoy those hours in the morning to myself, finding bargains. I can’t say I would enjoy working 6-11 in my normal job on a weekend. Keep it up part time resellers!

No disrespect but 98% of Resellers do this for the lifestyle not the monetary gain... I would rather do 40 hours a week at £10 an hour doing something I enjoy at my own pace with nobody telling me what to do, going on holiday when I want, having a day off when I want, spending more time at home... then serving ice cream for £13 an hour for someone else to make money from my hard work... time is more valuable then money. So £9-£10 an hour is just fine and dandy for me, I enjoy my work, I enjoy my life and more importantly I enjoy my freedom.

The guy doesn’t understand it’s a hobby that also makes you money. People that don’t do eBay etc don’t understand. Strange he has gone to such lengths to take the time out and justify his commitment. Personally I think he has nothing better to do. Ian you hit the nail on the head. It’s a hobby that you enjoy and it’s making you feel happy and makes money 😊😊😊😊

The whole point they are missing is that you enjoy it, get to add to your own collections and can do it in your own time. Will always be negative Nancy’s with noting better to do but knock others down.

Ian don't justify yourself to anyone. Just do what you want. Regardless of earnings ect your content is great I've learnt alot about toys from you and more importantly I'm entertained by you and your content. Keep up the good work buddy.

I haven’t listened to his entire comment yet, however what I will say is… You cannot control how people react to you… Sometimes the only thing you CAN control is how YOU react in any given situation… the way you’ve handled this situation is a lesson to all of us… me personally… I think the bloke is a sad W⚓️…🍺👍🏻

There is nothing wrong with anything you do. Reselling is like a hobby it's something you can do that is fun. Working at lidle isn't. Sometimes it's not all about the money... As long as your not making a loss 😂

They sound like a right prize one Ian, you don't have to justify anything to them, please don't respond to them directly in future, it just gives them validation, regardless of what you say. Don't feed the fire. You're right about the magic and the hunt though, can't price that.

Sounds very much like a chap I had dealings with on Ebay, he left me a negative feeback and followed up with a ton or messages telling me i was a scammer and to get a proper job 😆. I don't think some folk understand the enjoyment in sourcing and selling! Maybe he's a failed reseller, and envy is getting the better of him. Either way, block and crack on with your hobby and the great content 👌

In my opinion you do not have to justify your hobby with anyone. Whatever you make from Ebay or youtube is private and nobody else's business. I think there is a huge amount of envy here, if this person doesn't like what you do don't watch your channel. A the end of the day it's a hobby. Keep up the good work, really enjoy your content❤

You shouldn't have to justify yourself to some faceless keyboard warrior. It's always easier to pull someone else down then go and do something constructive yourself, which these guys do. At the end of the day you are making a little extra money doing something you enjoy, and that's a gift in itself. Also the time you got to spend with the wee lads and the enjoyment they got and still get out of it is priceless.
