They Said a Girl Would Never Try It | The Double Decker Kebab Parmo Challenge

For Ep. 3 of the England series, I'm visiting the Station Hotel in Pickering to take on one of their many food challenges! This time - I chose their Double Decker Kebab Parmo Challenge! I had just 40 minutes to finish 2 large parmo-style fried chicken breasts covered in béchamel sauce and cheese which was then loaded with doner kebab meat. Along the way I also had to finish a side of creamy cole slaw and over 1lb of fries. Winners earn their £33 meal for free, a groovy t-shirt, and a spot up on the Station's Wall of Fame!

I love a parmo…it’s weird they haven’t caught on all over! It’s just a North-East thing. Middlesbrough and surrounding areas do parmos…most people in other parts of England won’t have even heard of them!

They are similar but a Teesside Parmo always has a Béchamel white sauce layer. I read that the Australian one has tomato sauce . I'm sure the Australian one has better cheese 🧀

It looks so good. Have been making parmo for decades and am in Tennessee. Butterfly cut a boneless chicken breast. Pound it to about half to 3/4 inch. Dredge in seasoned flour then egg and milk then flour again and into hot skillet with oil of choice. Cook through on both sides then top with bechamel sauce. Oil, flour,salt and pepper with milk till gravy consistency. Can add cheeses. It's delicious.

we do have them, she just doesnt know what she is talking about. we make chicken parm differently, usually with marinara sauce on top, and either provolone or mozzarella cheese instead of cheddar. also served over pasta instead of fries, yeah i said fries.
