Ivor, You can do it! Just as you began your guitar journey, I began writing songs just in February of this year. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be good at it but am grateful for the kindness and encouragement on this site. For me a song starts with the words, usually just one line, and i write around that. Then i just pick up the guitar and a melody appears. just a few bars and i build on that. Other songs were based on poems written by my granddaughter. it feels to me that your song is already there because of your desire to write one. Your loved one will know this. Best of luck.
