As someone who is 31 and grew up watching the prequels (I was 8 when episode 1 came out) I can safely say everything you said in this video is exactly how I feel. My father sat me down and showed me Star Wars for the first time when I was like 5 or 6 on cassette tape and that was a major highlight of my childhood and we still watch the originals and prequels to this day. We watched Boba, that was a letdown but Mando we both liked a fair bit. I have grown distant from Star Wars ever since Ep.7-9 due to my feelings on those movies, however I do and will always be up for a watch party or just sit down and put on 1-6 at any time. Disney may have hurt my soul (figuratively) by making such crap movies but they never could take my love for George Lucas's Star Wars.

The prequels had some problems when it comes to the dialouges and the writing at times. But they followed a goal, from the start it was clear that its purpose was to show how Anakin became Darth Vader. But the sequels purpose seemed to change from movie to movie, which is why they definetly wont age like the prequels

The prequel’s had a plan from the beginning, but the Sequels didn’t, JJ even confessed it in his apology. One of the reasons was because he, Rian and Colin didn’t want to go the other ones direction and wanted things to be done their way.

The thing is that kids who grew with the prequels who loved it were able to be vocal about it as they grew older not to mention they had time to connect what they saw to the original trilogy while connecting to other generation of star wars fans most likely with family as they grew too… on the other hand the sequal is disjointed and doesn’t connect well to episodes 1-6 other than killing the main legacy characters off…. kids hardly connected with the sequels and even further didnt connect the sequals to the prequels and original series… meaning the connection with other generation of fans were not made well so that whole thing about the movie aging well has nothing to do with the movie itself becoming more understandable with fans it has alot to do with how well the movie was able to make a younger generation thoughtfully create connections not only with the other trilogies but realy with other people and other fans and a community…. Disney who is supposed to be all about family didnt even think about this and missed out with helping people make the many connections to previous fans like SWT made…so I dont really think it will age well as most people don’t see the connections … the sequels will be seen as unconnected movies with the feel of a different universe where the kids of that sequel generation will say oh yeah i remember those movies dont remember much about them though.

The big difference is that the prequels flaws are something that can be overlooked over time: execution. It was a consistent story that expanded the world based on what was already there, adding it's own story, heightening what came before. It was a great story executed with many flaws in the Skript and directing. Over time, it's possible for people to recognize the bigger story it tried to tell us, which they did. The sequels, while sharing some of these flaws, lack a consistent story that has a clear goal of what it adds to the mythos. The prequels, while being mocked for being bad, we're accepted as a story that is part of the saga, partially because they really expanded the world of star wars. The sequels didn't really add much new stuff to the mythos that works the same way. Most of the things they added, like a bunch of new things regarding the force, clash with what was established before, so people can't just include it in the bigger picture of star wars. This really is where them not having a clear vision screwed them over.
@ErikDayne
@ErikDayne Жыл бұрын
The sequels also had no respect for the source material. Force healing, force Skype, force teleporting objects, the Holdo maneuver, none of these things would have happened if they had someone in the room who cared about the source material to say we can’t do these things because that’s not how it works.

I think being released at the same time of the mcu at least before endgame when the mcu was still good hurts the sequels as well. I saw this comment not long after the ST ended that said, " The sequel trilogy can be summed up in one sentence, 3 generations of Skywalkers fought , suffered and died so that the descendant of their enemy could take their name" It will never recover from that.

Would've been epic if the ST had taken that and at least run with it in a more believable way than just boom force lightning and BTW the entirety of the screen time that rei was in there I really actually guessed she was supposed to be related to palpatine in some way and then that came true, but I also didn't think that she would be part of a diad in the force that part was just like why even bother throwing it out there if Noones around to explain it. It's not like having visions or talking directly with people through the force wasn't already part of the package for force users powerful enough, hell palpatine I believe in legends was able to cause force storms on entire planets. But I'll be honest since abeloth is still Canon I was hoping they'd be going for her as the ST main villain but at this point we all know she's not going to get the spotlight for a long time now

I rewatched the prequels this week and one the things I think really helps them is Episode III is an amazing ending. Also, it pays off things set up in Episode I and II that makes those movies look better retrospectively (for the record, I think Episode I is criminally underrated, while Episode II is a good, although far from great, movie). In comparison Episode IX is such a poor movie that it makes Episodes VII and VIII look worse retrospectively because nothing seems to payoff from those movies (and both are bad movies on their own). So I don’t see how the sequels will become loved because it is not like you get to the end and see some great setup; you see a clear cash grab

Exactly. And whenever I see people try to argue why they are good it seems they are really applying themselves when it comes to why. Just thinking about all those who made reactions. It’s clear it’s not genuine and they themselves openly admits that stuff don’t make sense but they’ll say it’s great anyways basically. Or doesn’t have basic understanding/knowledge of common tropes from the saga. None of these are great in case you’re trying to talk in favor of the movies. If a film is great you should never have to apply yourself to find cohesive points for why it’s great.

Star Wars has always been for the younger generation at its core. The old guard hated the original Star Wars when it came out. Even Alec Guinness didn’t like it, he thought it was beneath him as an actor. The kids who loved the OT grew up to hate the prequels, they became exactly what their parents were. But the kids, we loved it. Star Wars captured our imaginations just as the original trilogy had our parents. The lightsaber fights, the Jedi, the Clones, the villains, the story, all of it was so damn cool, and that’s before you even get into all the lore that channels like this delve into. To a certain extent, we have in fact become our parents. It’s only natural that some of us wouldn’t like the new Star Wars because it’s not like the one we grew up with. However, it didn’t have to be that way. Star Wars has always had a timeless aspect to it. With good writing, directing and acting, a third trilogy could have been good, great even. Unfortunately, with Disney at the helm, these movies drained all the wonder, all the magic, all the romance and adventure, that cool factor the the prequels had in spades - it’s like they drained all of that out of the Star Wars universe, leaving only a dead shell. That’s why I think we don’t see kids getting into it, that’s why I think this goes beyond “well you’re just like the people who hated on the prequels”. No, it’s different this time, because Star Wars has lost the imaginations of the young, and that’s a real tragedy. I compare this to Velma as a Scooby Doo fan. It’s like modern creators don’t understand why these classic franchises are beloved. They just don’t get it. As a kid, almost everyone my age watched Star Wars. Now, it’s just another generic franchise. Thanks Disney.

I think a lot OT fans who grew up with those movies, reading comics and books, playing the old games, toys, etc. grew such an attachment to the characters in the OT that nothing else mattered. I even think so far as the extended universe legends stuff some view that as far more important than the prequel stuff to this day. Us as kids being there for the prequel ride yet still having a love and appreciation for the OT got the unique experience that in my opinion was the best way to experience the story Lucas had in his head. Anakin and Obi-wan were the glue to both trilogies and I guess somewhat the sequel trilogy for what its worth. But no the sequel trilogy will not age like wine as so many previous SW titles have even things like KotoR and the Force Unleashed have age incredible well. The only Disney Era movies things I would consider having that effect are Rogue One and maybe even Solo. I still think Solo got the short end of the stick coming out after The Last jedi, had it come out before I genuinely believe it would have gone over a lot better with the fans

The truth is that the prequels were never that bad. A tremendous amount of effort was put into every one of those movies. It changed technology and storytelling in cinema forever. Now, the prequels also had the best choreography. Just watch those fights, they not only hold up incredibly well, but they're also extremely unique. The prequels also expanded the universe and made the story bigger and better on so many levels, and unfortunately, very little Disney made came close to this. The sequels have no cohesion, they destroy the classic lore and we also have a lot of bad scenes. The fight in the throne room (Snoke's room) is insanely bad. I mean, I can go on and on, but the sequels WON'T be loved. Only those who aren't really fans can enjoy the sequels, that's my 2 cents. If you never loved George's Star Wars, you probably will enjoy the sequels. It's brain-dead, there's no real substance to it. No myth, no themes or real motifs, most of it is mindless action that tries to emulate the classics.

Oh very, and you can almost imagine Ahsoka calling to Rey from the netherealm as a force ghost, "Rey", and through that window from a portal within the WBW, watching on after she called her, seeing the girl Rey dressed all in white, doing battle with Darth Sidious on Exegol. And so IF you really thinking about it, there could well be a existential paradox here, because IF the voice of Ahsoka we hear in Rise of Skywalker calling Rey's name, is of a "slain Ahsoka". then the Ahsoka in her own series and who appeared briefly in BOBF episode, as well as teaming up with Mando in a episode of his series, is of another version of Ahsoka; in another timeline. I feel the biggest tell that even Disney has chosen to sideline the sequels, or at least drastically underplay them, is that by a few years after ep III we had the Clone Wars animated series and a bunch of books filling in the clone war years, but here it is 4 years after the last sequel movie and they haven't done much with that time period. There were a few books and an ok-ish animated series trying desperately to make sense of the plot. By not fleshing out this portion of the story, admittedly because sales of books and merchandise etc. were far lower than projected, Disney has shown it was all about making quick money and that's sad when you consider the potential stories we could have had to further the Skywalker saga.

There is something that I feel a lot of people don't consider when they say things like "The Sequels will be like the Prequels in the future": The issues people had with the prequels are completely different from the issues that people now have with the sequels. The sequels are more fundamentally flawed than the prequels ever were, because no matter what your opinion on any Star Wars is, the fact is the prequels were properly thought through and were a cohesive story that didn't contradict itself, the sequels weren't planned out fully, handed from writer to writer and director to director with the Actors themselves confirming that no solid plans were made for the story they tried to tell. These kinds of fundamental issues don't fade away with time. One of the big complaints about the prequels was the overuse of CGI; at the time this was a big deal since that hadn't been done before, but now, CGI is incredibly prominent in all mainstream movies, and while the prequels are definitely guilty of overusing CGI in some aspects, they don't feel out of place today since so much of cinema is made with CGI. In 20 years time, making disjointed film projects that contradict themselves and are poorly managed internally isn't going to become a widespread practice, and it isn't going to be an accepted standard by the masses. A disjointed story with no clear plan will always be a disjointed story with no clear plan. That isn't even getting into the other flaws with the sequels that many fans have, some on a more subjective basis than others, but I have only spoken about the objective issues here since nobody can argue back that I'm being a fanboy or a hater because Disney, the actors, members of the creative teams and more people who worked on the Sequel Trilogy have openly admitted to the entire project being poorly managed and misguided internally.

My first exposure to Star Wars was seeing Episode VII in theaters (so, in a sense, I would call folks like myself the 'sequel generation' of Star Wars fans, similar to the way Star Wars Theory is a member of the 'prequel generation'). I watched the prequels after seeing Episode VII, and then the original trilogy after that. I haven't seen Episode VII since 2015 (and don't plan to watch it anytime soon) and didn't bother with VIII or IX. I think that says a lot about the way the sequels will likely age.

I was a bit younger when the prequel trilogy came around. I had already watched the original trilogy at the time, but I was 4 when TPM came out and 7 for AotC. I'm pretty sure I first watched and grasped both around that time, and I really loved them. RotS came out when I was 10 and it was *the* hype film to watch, and it did not disappoint. To this day, it remains my favorite Star Wars film. I cannot speak for the sequel trilogy. I have yet to bring myself to watch it after initially seeing the pandering that was TFA trailers, but I can say that it feels like a byproduct of the "boomer age" of Star Wars. The ones convinced that the original trilogy (particularly ESB) will always be the best, and that while the sequel trilogy had its faults, "You weren't there, man! You weren't an adult getting your childhood ruined by Jar Jar and Jake Lloyd!!" as if us former prequel kids had no room to say anything. And in turn, TFA had been made for *them*. Still, I do like some of what's come out of the Disney age of Star Wars. Having played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor recently, I can see the development of going from a pretty alright game and story to something I can consider great, and it all fairly consistently flowing through like before. All with some cheesy dialogue, heartfelt moments, and memorable characters: much like I appreciated back in the day with Star Wars.

One of the first problems with this theory is the narrative itself. The prequels certainly had detractors when it came out but they did not make up most of the Fandom. That's why much of the prequel related lateral material sold very well and had lots of popularity. We didn't have social media at the time so mainstream media panned the prequels and assumed they spoke for Star Wars fans. Once social media took off, the harsh reality that they were the ones out of touch hit them in the face. That's why they ran with this false narrative about aging well and prequel fans coming of age.

The prequels got many, many good reviews from major critics. It was absolutely the majority of fans who grew up with the original trilogy doing most of the the hating on the prequels. Back then we mostly posted on dedicated forums. By the time social media got more popular, many were still bitching about the prequels. @cptace Жыл бұрын
@chytstorm I wouldn't say the majority of the fans just based on the numbers. When the majority of people don't enjoy something you tend to see a decline in attendance/ money. That didn't happen with the prequels the same way it did with the sequels. You also wouldn't see enthusiasm for the adjacent material produced. And yes, I was there for those forums. SMH. I was quite disappointed in what people thought qualified as fans.
@chytstorm
@chytstorm Жыл бұрын
@@cptace Yes, it definitely was a majority. The prequels did not perform as well (inflation adjusted) as the OT did at the box office. As I said in my original post, the kids were the ones who enjoyed them the most, kept coming back, and bought the merchandise, pretty much the way it played out for the originals. It wasn't just the forums where you got the hatred. If you attended a convention and said you liked the prequels, you'd get more than pushback from anybody in earshot. It was hordes of Star Wars fans who ruined Jake Lloyd's career and caused him to seek therapy for years. Simon Peg admitted that he was wrong for jumping on the hate wagon and apologized to Ahmed Best. The guy contemplated suicide after years of that mess. All in all, it wasn't just a vocal minority. It was a majority of the hardcore OT fans. And you're right. It was pretty sad to watch, especially if you happen to know some of the people who worked on those films. It was around that time that people began to admit that Star Wars had one of the most toxic fandoms. That was the original Fandom Menace.
@cptace
@cptace Жыл бұрын
@chytstorm @chytstorm Inflation adjustment is one thing, but I'm looking at the trajectory of the box office itself, particularly the dip in the second film and then a bounce in the last one. And the Simon Pegg thing is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. I'm not saying it was sad because of how those folks acted, although it was disgusting. I'm saying it was sad because he had the nerve to call himself a hardcore fan. Rambling about practical effects and getting nostalgic about "that time Han said, "I know" does not make you a fan of Star Wars. Maybe a fan of filmmaking, but I'm not here for all that. I'm here for the Star Wars universe. Apparently they weren't as they mucked up the sequels. And Star Trek for that matter. Oh, and I was one of those people who "dared" to say I loved the prequels back then and there were times when I received pushback. That never lasted more than five minutes though because I actually knew the lore. Which is more than I could say for them, unfortunately.

Even during the time, no one really shat on Episode III. The prequels as a whole were hated, but it had at least one killer movie. I remember seeing Episode III promos for years after the movie debuted. It got a book, a video game, etc. The sequels didn't have any movie like that on release. They were all divisive on release, yes even TFA but granted, much less. The internet meme'd the movie into being ANH ripoff. All the sequels had going for it was the mystery around Rey was. It was pure division after that. So I think you're right, they won't age as well because they didn't have one movie that started as well. People watch the prequels now and the rationale is "alright we're gonna watch 2 meme filled movies to get to the one that SLAPS."

The right things were added after, it had consistency, respected it's audience as well as their intelligence (children and adults alike) and it added to the original story. The Sequels is more akin to milk, first one not too shabby and a fun reintroduction to the universe (until you realize the amount of Mary Sue mess that could of been shrugged off if they handled the other two right) and then the other two come in like sun and bacteria making an unholy mixture and instead of using almost any of the canon they added hogwash. Even the fact that they barely had any success with things related to that timeline says a lot. Honestly, I know part of it was Disney's deal with EA, but how many games could you honestly make with what they provided?

It should tell every Star War fan that Disney is far, FAR more invested in the opinions of the stakeholders. Not their stock holders or even their fans. No. Disney cares solely as to what their stakeholders desire. Hence all the ESG/DEI HR hidings. Then populating the creative departments with the same ideas. So of course we’re getting what THEY want. Not what actual paying customers dream, or even want from LucasFilm. Thus these are the films and series delivered. And we’re racist and misogynists if we too don’t agree with Disney’s financiers as well as Kathleen Kennedy’s “The Force is Female” mindset and production. But yeah, how’s that working out Disney?

I have a feeling in a few years we'll start to see a lot of younger people come out in defence of the sequels, very similar to what's happened to the prequels, but I think what the difference will be is that all these people will rewatch the movies as young adults and realise how disconnected and disjointed that whole trilogy is. I've tried rewatching them myself, but it's so hard. I feel like none of the characters have really earned the love and respect that disney wants the audience to have for them. All of the characters of the sequel trilogy feel like an afterthought. I think people will try to put it on the same level as the prequels but will fail because of all the problems the sequel trilogy brought to the franchise. The prequels had that Star Wars vibe and Filoni, for the most part, has maintained that vibe throughout The Clone Wars and other shows. The sequel movies don't have the same vibe, they feel kinda faux Star Wars, in my opinion. You could even completely delete them from the franchise, and they wouldn't even make a dent. I've been thinking for a while. If they released everything disney related differently, it could have been better. If they released the shows before the new movies or focused on smaller things like TV shows and Video Games that slowly showed, the genisis and built up to the first order, basically what a lot of the Disney+ shows are doing now and lead into the sequels, it could've been better. I would've much rather waited 15/20 years since Revenge Of The Sith for a sequel trilogy. Rather than releasing a sequel trilogy 10 years after ROTS without any planning, even allowing George Lucas to have some input to make it more cohesive and some what connected to the films before, rather than Disney just being money hungry and having the movie released 3 years after the acquisition of Star Wars. All in all, if they took their time, planned out a story and made an effort to connect it properly with both the OG and Prequel, it could've been a better move.

Make Snoke the full on Main Villain. 5. Make Various Media set between the Second and Third Movies, Like Legends did. 6. Luke isn't a Dpressed Hermit. (Much.) 7. Uh... Have Han, Luke and Leia live and reunite... (This could be an Iffy situation.) 8. Anakin Skywalkers Ghost appears. 9. Reinvent the Knights of Ren as something complelty different from the Sith. (And by extension, Most Dark Side Users.) 10. Kill off Rose Tico. (Sorry Rose Fans... If there's any.) 11. Boba Fett. 12. Admiral Ackbar replacing Holdo. 13. More Captain Phasma. 14. Scrap Star Wars Resistance. How does all this sound?

People who make this argument really aren’t seeing the situation for what it is First off, the people who like the prequels never HATED them: we had issues and they weren’t as good as the OT but they weren’t “bad”. They certainly didn’t warrant the “George Lucas Raped Our Childhood” movement To be it briefly the prequels’ problem was the execution, which is manageable because at least it has a good concept and solid foundational lore to work off of The sequels’ problem is the concept: there was no story or structure other than what they ripped from the OT. And when you apply logic to the whole thing in context with the rest of the saga it just means that the events of the OT were obsolete as nothing is truly accomplished: The Chosen One Prophecy was false, Palpatine was never defeated and nor was the Empire, Luke in no way restores the jedi(the fact that he doesn’t train Rey means he has no hand whatsoever) and he even meets his fate and throws everything away for reasons he should be above So no: the sequels will never have a resurgence

The darkhorse comics were fantastic! Am i just so old and inflexible? I dont think so. And the worst part is, my children don't even like starwars, beyond a passing interest. I think the 4 and 6 were well made, costumes and all. I'm nit picking think 6 could have used a little more environment rather than serving as the back drop to a short scene to be reused for a fight. Attack of the Clones was and still is my least favourite, because of the Anakin/Padme romance, which was always a total cringe fest, but the world building and the overall story of Prequels is amazing and on par with the OT. Prequels did something, they took existing source material and built on it and in some ways even improved the original trilogy, if you watch it in chronological order it makes sense. Characters had a backstory that made sense, you could understand why Yoda forced himself into exile, why Obi-wan (Alec Guinness version) seemed traumatised. It made sense. There was substance. The sequels were all about projecting disney's ideals and PC views on the world whilst trying to grab as much cash as possible from cute alien merch. They destroyed a lot of lore, a lot of the characters had just been completely changed without any reason being given as to why. Where the prequels had done such a good job making the transition to the OT, the sequels was anything but a seamless transition. I think the first movie wasn't that bad. It left a lot of character development and intrigue up to be made for the following movie, it set characters up and they were somewhat interesting, they had motivations and I could have seen it going in a positive direction. However, Rian Johnson came in and destroyed everything, that movie was a s*** show. Killed off beloved characters, destroyed every bit of source material it could get its hands on and was all in all just something that a disney exec with a brain should have just deleted off the hard drive. Taken the production cost loss and rolled with it.

I mean the way we could predict this is to analyze whether the kids today who are between like 10-18 who grow up with sequels like characters like Rey, Kylo, Poe and what are the sales numbers of toys related to the sequels compared to the originals and the prequels. I think the answer is no but obviously I don’t know that many kids but what is 100% sure that when I was a kid, everyone was obsessed with the prequel themed Star Wars games, Lego’s, action figures and we were excited to watch the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network. People also have to remember that a lot of the characters in the prequels are the same characters which we see in the originals so it was easy to like them because if you liked Obi-Wan, Yoda or Palpatine in the originals then why wouldn’t you like them in the prequels? However, this is not true for the sequels because Han was barely in it, Leia wasn’t as like-able as in the originals and Luke wasn’t treated with the respect he deserves.

I know I will get a lot of hate for that but hear me out, I believe they will age great, maybe not like the prequels, but great. I am now 16 and I was 8 when the force awakens came out and it was an event everybody was counting days till the movie, we were exchanging collectable cards, on one day we were dressing up like Star wars characters and had little fights with our lightsaber, and it was not just me and my friends, no literally anyone at my school boys and girls. As the movie got out, we wouldn't care if it was good or bad, because it was the first memories and feelings we collected with Star wars weeks before the movie and we all thought and still think it's an amazing movie, we know it is the plot of episode 4 mostly but we could live through this amazing time as well, like all the older generations watch episode 4 all together or episode 1. The hype around episode 8 wasn't that much, but still everyone was talking about it, and again no complaining, probably because we were to young or we just didn't want to complain. Episode 9 was a bit of a different story cause we were older, and I personally don't like episode 9 and parts of episode 8 as a fan, however people aren't huge fan but still love Star wars were often enjoying the movies. I believe when my generation gets older the sequels won't be hated that much.

The sequel trilogy can't age well because it is essentially dead. It's been 4 years since TRoS and they haven't even touched anything relating to the sequel trilogy. Only media they've been releasing is prequel and original era since sequel had no world building whatsoever. Like trying to build a sandcastle without any water. Tbh I don't think there's a way to fix it without breaking the universe with some multiverse or time travel gimmick which I absolutely loathe after seeing marvel abuse it time and time again.

Another major thing to consider: The OT created a global fan base that lasts to this day. The Prequels, although heavily criticized, STILL created a new generation of fans. Has Disney SW created a new generation of fans? Has that trilogy created new fans? New fans that intend to pass it on to their younger siblings & children as the OT & Prequels fans did? Nope! The drop-offs at the box office alone speaks clearly for itself. TFA only brought in 2 billion dollars because of the hype from the first trilogies that had aged well. Ep 8 & certainly 9 dropped paying customers since TFA in an insane rate. That is no sign of anything aging well already here & now in real time. There's no need to wait a few years, the result is already crystal clear. Where is the new & next generation of SW fans that saw the sequels first? I know they exist but they are few & far in between compared to the previous trilogies. The differences are palpable. If this new trilogy had sparked a new generation of fans we would constantly hear, see & feel the excitement & the buzz for SW. But we don't. No one watches the new shows. Everything is going down. The Galactic Starcruiser hotel, based on this new trilogy, barely lasted a year. Because there are no fans of it (& the insane prizes that gives you no real SW). Everything being said online is negative, if anyone says anything at all. Where are these new fans? Fans that love & support this new trilogy & its characters? And are willing to pay for it? Where are they? I don't see or hear them. If they were there this would be aging well. But it's not aging well, it's not even aging at all. It is dead. If it has no loyal fan base it is dead.

Also i think in terms of the legacy of the prequals, my first star wars content was clone wars on cartoon network. Im a 22 year old i was not around to even witness the prequal movies. Clone wars got me into star wars, battlefront 2 made me have an idea of the OT. I watched all the movies later in life, when force awakens was already announced. The amount of beloved content the prequals gave life to made me fall in love with the brand, and then watching the actual movies made me enjot it even more. Things that come out with sequals and the sequals themselves do not seem to have the same impact. My sisters friends who are in middle school, none of them care about star wars. The new content through sheer lack of quality fails to attract newer fans into star wars but manages to distance old ones. From my interest in soccer i know that when a team is not succeeding like they used to they also fail to attract new fans and end up damaging their legacy; going through bad phases is acceptable but when you learn about the old glories and see what it has come to now the new generation just doesnt get the same connection. I think thats what stands in the way of sequals getting a good legacy in the future. The prequals were not good movies but the ideas in the movies and seeing those ideas come to life in other media attracted people my age regardless of the movie quality. Im 22 now the prequals had started before i was born but it was their legacy that made me like star wars and made me keep watching them, now after all these years star wars has people in my demographic to keep talking about it and keep the brand alive in a sense. With the sequals though you dont get that new fanbase created and you distance the old, even the people that enjoyed the movies when they came out are slowly moving on from them because even if you have the best visuals the story and characters are what keep you connected and those arent there. Sequals legacy will fall rather than get better since they cant get new fans or keep the old ones. Even if, hopefully, star wars returns to being great the sequals wont be looked upon fondly, then new things coming out will be hailed as what saved star wars.

Unlike the PT, the ST damaged the classic legacy characters and the story was so confusing to follow. Audiences of today and of the future have learned to closely scrutinise movies and Tv shows thanks to the internet providing ongoing breakdowns and reviews. The ST will always be seen as a failure due to the ongoing narrative about it.

The Prequels were always known to be the story of how Darth Vader, the most incredible 'villain' character in a mighty long time AND how the mysterious Boba Fett became who he was. Episode 1 was just the beginning of that story, so although okay and filled with a ton of info regarding The Force, new characters, but actually not overly exciting, it was understandable that it was just the beginning of the Anakin/Vader transformation, and there were two more episodes coming. The lightsaber battle in Episode 3 was epic, no matter what episode is your favorite. After all was said and done, the prequel delivered on what it set out to do. Although Episode 7 opened up a myriad of possibilities and mysteries, Johnson really screwed the pooch with what he attempted to pull. I've seen all of the Star Wars episodes when they originally came out and never had I been more excited to see what Episode 8 would bring. Not only was Episode 8 epically bad, made little sense, nor had any direction/connection/relation to what it seemed we were getting from Episode 7. After I saw it twice, hoping I just misunderstood it, I realized I didn't like much of anything about it, except for a few visual scenes. The story became atrocious to me. I went from seeing an Episode that I had never been so hyped for regarding any Star Wars movie, to honestly not caring if there was ever an Episode 9. Reluctantly went to see it simply because I felt I needed to see all of them. Went into it with no excitement for it, watched it, and just hated it. The Mandalorian gave me a sense of renewed hope, BUT my excitement for anything Star Wars simply evaporated after Episode 9. Hell, I even bought the Episode 9 DVD to finish off my movie collection, but the wrapper remains on the DVD up to this day. I NEVER believed that would even be possible. I will never even contemplate watching any Star Wars movie past Episode 7 again. Haven't they figured out that nothing that they have come up with even comes close to the already written 'Legends' material?

It won't because the Prequel trilogy didn't copy the original like the sequels did, even though it had, in my opinion, one bad movie, one mediocre movie, and one good one. It was fresh and new. It was a story that followed the antagonist of the original trilogy and showed us his origin and how he fell to the dark side and how he turned into a human cyborg known as Darth Vader. The sequels just followed the story of the original trilogy, it is literally the three movies from 1977 to 1983, for example: Force Awakens: Starkiller base is blown up like the Death Star and one of the main protagonists die in the base. The Last Jedi: Kylo Ren asks Rey to join the Dark Side just like Vader asked Luke, Rey's lightsaber is destroyed like Luke's hand is chopped off. Rise of Skywalker: Somehow Palpatine has returned, Rey kills Palpatine like Vader kills him and Kylo Ren returns to the light and dies just like Vader did. And Rey beats Kylo Ren like Luke beat Vader only difference being Luke chopped odd Vaders hand while Rey stabbed Kylo Ren and healed him. And Rey commits identify theft and is now a Skywalker, now that's original.

They could have played it safe, and made the sequels about the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. -1st movie: Luke running the New Jedi Order, training Ben and Rey (his daughter), with the YV appearing in the end -2nd movie: fighting, Luke dies after doing some really cool sh.t, becomes Force Ghost. Maybe Ben (or Rey) falls to the dark side because of all the violence. -3rd movie: the one who left returns (after getting guidance from Anakin's ghost, because he went through that too), the Jedi win

The Sequels will probably be forgotten, for me Episodes 1 through 6 is it, all of it. now if they stuck to the rolescript written by George Lucas for the sequels, we may of gotten what we all wanted to see. The idiots of Disney threw that out... they literally ditch it. Makes me wonder if George Lucas has any regrets of selling Star Wars to Disney, in some ways I think he does just hoe they have just ruined the franchise. So no the sequels won't age at all, they will most likely be forgotten.

I’m saving your video to watch later but wanted to comment real quick. I agree that these videos will age like the prequels. When the prequels came out I wasn’t a fan. Even now when I watch I still have a hard time at certain scenes, however Lucasfilm and now Disney-Lucasfilm has built up a lot of lore starting with the clone wars. This stuff started to get me interested in prequel material. Now when I watch the prequel I find it more digestible and even enjoyable (part 3 was always awesome). Disney will have a lot of work to do to tie new lore into the sequels but I think it’s possible, especially if we see the rise of Snoke and the first empire the fall of Kylo, even how the emperor was pulling the strings all this time, maybe even see Poe’s parents in action as they have already been brought up in the past, and of course I think we have to have our original 3 in there somewhere. I believe even Hux’s father has already been mentioned. As far as Rey goes, we don’t really need her story line as she didn’t do anything relevant until the force awakens. If Disney builds this out and gives us stepping stones to the sequel, despite how uneven it was and how it never really tied to anything, I think then the sequels can age like the prequels. Problem is the sequels was such a mess that it’s going to take a lot of building. Prequels foundation was there it was just the clunky dialogue and acting directions and those stupid accents which almost bordered on racist that killed the prequels. However with just a little story telling in the clone wars it made it easier to digest at least for me. Okay I am rambling and I need to go to bed. Just my thoughts. Will watch this video later
