The police here in Kent no longer treat car/bike theft as a crime. Along with house burglary they no longer treat these as crimes. I wonder what the police actually do today?
@robg5212 жыл бұрын
If the police don’t actually do anything to address these types of crimes the population can genuinely ask why the F#*% are they there at all. Lawfully the police get their power from the consent of the people, if the people have no value for their actions then their authority is undermined.

Unfortunately, London police not being interested in bike theft or any other serious/violent crime as become the norm. What's even more unfortunate is that this atitude doesn't boil down to the officers that are on the streets doing their best to keep London safe, but from political decision that have decided to defund them, close down precincts and lower the number of active officers in the streets in favour of street cameras and other "gadgets" that do nothing to prevent crime and are easily thwarted when it comes to negate the identification of criminals. Well... Unless you live in the rich part of town...

When my bike went, we searched everywhere and we found the bike and the thieves and told the police what we'd found. Police went and told the thieves we'd found them and were a threat to them, gave them a chance to get rid of it and flee. I wasn't being a threat. If the police had done their jobs and arrested the thieves then there was no need for anyone to be a threat. Now I wouldn't tell the police until I'd either completed the recovery or given up looking, their usefulness has been reduced to "issuer of crime numbers for insurance claims".

I called the Police and they eventually found a Datatag in the seat. The bikeshop said you can only prove the seat is yours and nothing else. I went back to complain and they changed their story to say it was sold on commission and said the owner had come to take it back and gave me a bogus address. Police didn't care, DataTag didn't work and although I got paid out my insurance premiums rocketed and I took a haircut on the payout.... nice.
