I mean all people have to learn how to read, it’s not a skill you’re born with or develop instantly, you have to be taught. It’s just another form of learning how to read, just in a different way. For someone who wasn’t born blind, learned how to read through sight, and tried to learn Braille it would be harder for them than someone who was born blind learning how to read it. Does this make sense?? (This isn’t intended to be hate, it’s just logical insight to think about.
@breezeh11272 жыл бұрын
@@charliemayfilms1550 You might want to rethink what you said to me and how you said it. "Does that make sense?" Is a phrase used when speaking to a child or with one who is uneducated in the area you are speaking or writing about. I'm 42 and 21 years of my life was dedicated to early childhood development and early intervention services for special education students across most of the state of NC. My expertise was most specific to autism, but covered many areas, including the deaf and blind. I can very confidently say to you that, no, it is NOT the same process as a typically developing child learning to read. She has a lot more steps and processes that require a lot more skills, built upon/in addition to, the "typical ones" of learning letters, sounds, words, and translating that into a story. It is MUCH harder to feel your letters than to see them. It's a much more involved and difficult process to feel these letters, memorize the order and translate these into sounds, words and eventually into ideas and stories (all without the benefit of sight to give you a quick reminder of letter/word order). Then to do all of this at the same speed as a sighted child...yah, that took a lot of time, learning and skills. MORE than a typically developing child. Sure, it's harder for a sighted person to learn this skill, as it was not taught at the beginning, BUT do not diminish the extra steps, concepts and hurdles she faced, to learn to read so quickly and thoroughly with braille.

I'm now experiencing lack of sight. I have a rare cornea disease that only Sicilians get. I need cornea transplants. But having difficulty getting them done cause I am disabled on disability and on a waiting list for caregiver program so my friend can be paid to take care of me. In general. But will need her 24/7 for 3mo after each eye surgery cause I can't bend over or pick up anything over 1lb. Waiting list is 6mo out then another 2mo with the last process things. So my sight is getting so bad I'm scared to drive. I have nobody to help. So it's scary and frustrating. I'm 44 and now experiencing lack of sight is super depressing. I know once I get the surgeries I'll have the same reaction as this lil girl. Not bring able to see takes awsy all your independence.

@C_Stories I can have the cornea transplants. One one year the other the next year. It lasts 10-15yrs. It's suppose to majorly help but I'd still have glasses cause I am near sighted and have an astigmatism. So in a sense it is kinda temporary. But getting Medicare to pay for it is gonna be an issue I think. I have the earliest appt just to see the doctor who does this surgery in January. She just did a transplant on my mom 2mo ago. She also has this disease. We got it from her bio dad. He's only ever given the family shit. My mom had her original transplants 15yrs ago. So hers had to be redone. You have to wait a year after one is done. That's how long the whole healing process is but you start to see better after 2-3mo out of the eye. It sucks. I have all these health issues. I feel like im.drowning in health issues and I'm only 44. I feel no quality of life.

@@cbenji2 It's hard to manufacture and the braille book market is very weak
@SCarter027672 жыл бұрын
@@cbenji2 braille is typically on different (thicker) paper which is more expensive and most printing manufacturers, sadly, don't even the necessary equipment to do the impact printing. Also, they can't fit the same amount of characters per line normal printing can, increasing number of pages in book. Lastly, braille isn't usually double sided. They do, nowadays, have newer printers that print raised dots of special ink, which allows double sided pages much easier. But again, paper type and quantity, special equipment, high-tech "ink" and techniques/processes lead to high cost and low availability.

Almost everyone can see the beautiful things in the world, even if it’s not in the same way. Smell the flowers. I don’t have a great olfactory sense. Look at the beautiful picture. Not everyone can see. Listen to the music and birds. Sadly there are those who can’t do that. Taste delicious ice cream! I can’t think of people who can’t taste, but there are those allergic. Hugs. They’re wonderful. Do you know anyone who can’t touch? I don’t.

This is so sweet. Reminds me of a moment I'll cherish forever with a girl from our youth group. Her name is Jessica, and she was born blind. She is also mentally impaired, which meant that she was often overwhelmed when the group got too loud. One time we did a scavenger hunt through our town and at one spot, the various groups had to decode a text in Braille. The other groups had to use the Braille alphabet sheet to crack the code, but our group had Jessie. This one kid picked up the braille text, ran over to her and said: "Jessie, you can read this, right? We're gonna be so fast thanks to you." I'll never forget the smile on Jessie's face as she read the text out loud to us in ten seconds with everyone cheering when she was done. Our group actually did win that game and the kids gave Jessie all the credit which made it even better. She was a badass in other ways too, like she was the first to dare go on a zipline we built ourselves, and riding a sledge by herself without even hesitating. I'll never forget her, she's awesome in every way❤️

Y'know, until the pandemic hit, I would read on the subway going to and from work every day. I live like 2 stops from the end of the 2 train in the Bronx, so if I'm working deep in Queens or Brooklyn, that would give me almost 4 hours to read every weekday. Then the pandemic hit, all the hospitals emptied their psych wards out onto the streets, and all the deeply disturbed individuals drifted down into the subways...and crime skyrocketed. The media doesn't even report about women being pushed onto the tracks any more, about Asians being beaten with hammers in front of their children until they have permanent brain damage, or about any of it, really. Violent crime in NYC has returned to numbers we haven't seen since the 1970's. So having my face buried in a book was no longer a good idea, and I switched to audiobooks and only put one earbud in so I can still hear if anyone starts screaming or something. But man, there's just something about the written word... After a while I had to start reading in bed, before I gotta crash every night. I was legit surprised at how happy I was to have a book in my hands again. And no - not a tablet or e-book, but a real book. I even bought a handful of new books so I could enjoy that 'new book smell.' It eas glorious. Just glorious.
