Powerful teaching. However, when Paul says we are complete in him he clearly meant (in him) in spirit, the same way we got into him. The people who you call "new creation realists" are therefore 100% correct. Romans 8 V 26 that talks about infirmities does not invalidate that teaching. A man receives a recreated human spirit upon the new birth but his soul and body remain intact and maintain the same infirmities they had until they are consciously renewed. Paul clearly shows in that Romans 8 V 3 that the weakness/infirmity he talks about is "of the flesh". In fact that is what he consistently refers to all through that verse. In v 23 he says our physical body/flesh cries for redemption because it has limitations. That word limitation is a synonym to infirmity as used in v 26. The limitations of the flesh are not necessarily sin. They are anything that the fall of man did to the human body. One of which is getting physically tired. Jesus himself got physically tired. Getting hungry. Being subject to aging and decaying. Being dull in perception. Needing to study hard to understand anything. Being naturally resistant to things of the spirit. Being limited in the knowledge of the spirit. Those are the weaknesses being referred to. That is why in v 26 Paul says the holyspirit helps us to make up for such deficiencies. He knows exactly what we should pray for even when we may not know. If anything, this verse disproves the notion that man is tripartite as if that were the case, being born again should have meant the spirit, soul and body of man should have been recreated at the same time. But we see that only the spirit component got born again (even when Jesus says MAN must be born again). Jesus himself proves that man is a spirit because it is the spirit of man that gets born again. The other functions have to be renewed consciously and gradually even when the spirit receives instantaneous new birth.
