I had an expierence where I woke up in the hospital not really knowing who I was. When I woke up the nurse called my mom into the room and when my mom realized I wasn't completely myself she told me not to tell the doctor because I needed to go home to take care of my kids. I had had 4 seizures in one day and lost track of time for 3 days. My mother said I was awake and talking during those days but I don't remember it at all. I instinctively Listened to my mom because I woke up so confused I didn't know what else to do. It took me years to put my brain back together without help and gave me this subconscious fear of even asking for help without me knowing why I felt that way. It took me a while to unpack my childhood and face the reality that I was raised to never consider my own feelings or stand up for myself. I wonder often what I ever did to my mom to make her look at me like I didn't deserve to be cared for. It took me even longer to find the strength to forgive her and try to not force that perspective on my own kids. For them to have a healthy balance of self care and caring for others.
