@UNSCPILOT
@UNSCPILOT Күн бұрын
@@POVwithRC the list of android devices, phones in general really, that don't spam ads is rather slim, and this camera is more phone than camera. And yeah, the Rebel T6 isn't the fastest thing ever but that doesn't negate that it can transfer, personally I usually dump images to my desktop anyway as with 400+ gigabytes of images most phones, even with a large enough SD card would be overwhelmed, especially for those of us that don't go all in on a flagship phone and the more affordable phones have... uninspiring performance. And, really, in Practice the Rebel T6 is a cheaper DSLR from 8 years ago with a 18mp apsc sensor, yet between it and this Android camera I'd pick it every time, even the lack of touchscreen actually has a benefit as it can rest against my chest while my hands are busy without changing settings accidentally, the OS only fixates on photography so no weird side issues can get in the way, and I can pick up decades of secondhand lenses for EF and EF-S mount. It's not even my best Camera anywho but I still love to use it, my Canon M200 out preforms it while still costing less, can use the same lenses as the T6 with an adaptor (looks hillarious with a 75-300mm zoom). I'm sure it's an interesting option for some, but personally I'll steer clear, there's probably good reason this concept keeps failing, and I prefer my photography devices be focused on only photography, else I'd just get the same overpriced phones as most

That is a camera system I SOOOO want to love BUT .. yeah, there's way too many drawbacks to justify the $700+ price tag .. I LOVE love love the lens capability (micro 4/3 are pretty much everywhere used) and being it is basically a phone inside, why couldn't you use your sim card, get access to your cellular network, and upload your images right to your cloud of choice like most phones? I use 100% raw images (my K-3 iii does jpeg to my 2nd card, but they're basically just the backup), and as poor as those RAW images looked, I'm afraid it wouldn't be useful in most cases. Maybe as a travel camera that you could also text on? Can it use any phone apps? Maybe Google Voice? I'd love to love this one, it really looks fun, but I'll go use my $700+ to get more typewriters, studio gear, and backdrops.

Something like this in the hands of Sony, Nikon, Canon or Fuji, would be a certified hit. Yongnuo doesnt have great lenses (i owned their 50mm for Canon EF mount and it was loud and SLOW), so i figured this wouldnt be optimized at all for the hardware potential its got. I feel like this would have amazing potential within the right hands, but nobody has been able to execute it properly. And considering Android was originally a camera OS to begin with before it transitioned into being what it is today, it'd be PERFECT todays cameras. A few years back, a friend of mine and I were talking about why dont they use Android on cameras, and use their hardware on these cameras nowadays. The flexibility of android is amazing and would be perfect for it. Samsung did it with their NX cameras, and it was moderately decent.

A big issue with utilizing a smart phone OS on a camera is that it will become deprecated far quicker than just a standard camera. At a certain point in the near future, that version of Android will no longer be supported, and you will no longer be able to get apps or use it as intended. I fear that this class of device is just going to be e-waste far quicker than any other camera. However, if you utilize a proprietary version of Android, you can design photo or video editing apps into the camera itself, so it can be used long after its version if the OS is no longer supported.

This thing is made almost exclusively for the Chinese live streaming market. The Chinese internet is weird in that a lot of things aren't optimised, or even incompatible with web, you have to use the app (which keeps you under the control of the developers). Thus a camera like this would offer better than smartphone quality while still able to access all the streaming options. It's a limited product for an unhealthy internet ecosystem.

I think this is cool, and glad some companies are still trying it even if the results aren't great lol, as I'm curious to see Gcam/computational photography implementation on larger sensor/interchangeable lens bodies. Cause I think hardware progress is plateauing, like every camera made within the last ~10 years is good enough for 90% of photographers, so software could be the next area of innovation.

Huawei and Leica previously set up a research lab together, but I think it fell through due to all the Wall Street anti-competitivism. Since then, though, Huawei, also made a degoogled version of Android. It would be great if Huawei and the L-mount Alliance made some variant models with this OS feature.

Probably easier to just include the front camera hardware than try to update apps expecting it

Unless they upgrade the Android, the app store will pass it by. Old phones often don't allow access, and a lot of the apps won't work anymore. But an interesting idea that needs development

You can sideload apps by uploading the APK file over a USB connection. I have a de-googled phone, and I have no problems installing apps on it that way.

When you say it doesn't give 20mp with third party apps, does it give half or crop in? May come down to Camera API2 implementation, if the canara defines 20mo as high res mode and sets the lower resolution as the default (see this happen on phones)

youngnou could grab a decent chunk of camera market share if they took this camera seriously and continued working on it.

"No stabilisation, optical or electronic" - so the OIS on lenses with it doesn't work? (Edit to add: I kind of love this though, and would love to see how it improves with firmware updates over time)

If they make the grip smaller and add roller or two, it will be interesting camera.

Can't see this ever working unless Google release a cut-down and dedicated 'photography' version of Android, which app developers and manufacturers could support natively. Probably never going to happen, sadly.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out in the future. Xiaomi brought out a phone called the 12S Ultra Concept which I believe had an exposed sensor in addition to a camera module, and with an adapter it would allow the attachment on Leica M Mount lenses. Quite pricey though at $43,000. It is a shame though that Samsung didn't continue to produce cameras especially with Android. Although a little outdated, using the Galaxy NX was crazy for it's time.

I'd buy this in a heartbeat if it had solid autofocus and raw files. I don't use digital near as much now as my default for photography is film. I use digital for low light and video, which this does. I leverage the cloud to share both my digital and analog photography. Even *right now* I have 3-4 SD cards sitting on my desk waiting for upload. I would love to just run this camera and never use cards again.

Did MotionCam work with this? That app uses a different raw pipeline than other apps so you might get better raw files from it, olus if raw video works that would be sick!

While cameras like this definitely seem like a great idea and convenient, there is one big issue. That is the support lifespan of Android. Eventually it will not be able to be updated and apps will no longer work on it and all of the great features it had when it was new are gone. Then you are just left with a subpar camera that you still will have to transfer photos to a computer to do anything with them. I have 10+ year old digital m4/3 cameras that still work with all of the features they came with new. They still connect to the manufactures phone app to transfer photos, albeit slowly, because the manufacturer of the camera can afford to maintain support in its app for the limited number of products it has. Alphabet and the photo editing and sharing app makers can not try to maintain support for every possible piece of hardware their software is installed on.

Yep, that's a big issue. My Samsung Galaxy camera I showed in the video has very few apps that work for that reason.

I think if somebody would throw a LOT of money on this concept, it would be an amazing product. Imagen an R5 with an OS Built on Android. It would open up many new possibilities. The poor software quality and lack of updates make these camera/phone products unusable.
