I was ready to go to war everyday in 2003!
That GNC show really changed me and brought out a monster I had never seen before. I knew I was going to be unbeatable that year.

I completely understand what Ronnie did that year. He was already a monster, make no mistake about it. But, when he says he went nuts for a year and lifted heavy and did everything right without taking any time off that's why he was able to become the freak of freaks. It was probably a perfect storm of rebound, adding more muscle, heavy lifting, eating right, and yes, of course, the right stacks were used too and that was the result. Not to say he didnt look amazing every other year, but in 2002 he got "smaller" and less ripped than we were used to seeing him, which culminated in him losing the GNC show to Gunter. And then as he said he went ballistic.

Ronnie's story about how the GNC inspired some fierce determination is great. I've always seen him as a guy who saw himself as the hardest worker, on a level of his own. And this attitude is what separated him from good to goat. So to hear his story about creating this challenge, this fire, inside his mind, to obliterate the competition and show everybody just how dominant he is, doesn't surprise me at all. We see this behavior, mind set in almost every elite competitor. This is why they are elite in comparison to someone of equal talent, genetics, opportunity. It's that "ok, bet" attitude at its highest level. If you don't have it, you won't stand a chance against someone who does. (Given all else is reasonably equal, like the apex of professional sports) This aspect of mentality is one of the most fascinating things in life, to me. How someone can flip a switch in their mind, and seemingly pave the path of their destiny with an extreme sense of determination, certainty. It's not easy, but when it happens great things can be achieved and great odds can be overcome.

I don’t knock today’s era of bodybuilders but the king is 💯 correct. Today the conditioning is garbage compared to previous eras. Instagram and social media is great but a lot of these new physiques are hugely over rated. Only a select few can actually pose and everyone looks smooth and soft. What Ronnie and Chad explained should answer the question of why you can compare eras.
