Jaz is the protagonist controlled by the player, she is grandma's daughter. a few years ago, grandma sent her daughter out of the village to prevent her from becoming a sacrificial offering (as can be seen from the note written by officer Will). officer Will tricked the protagonist, Jaz, back to Chen village in order to make grandma choose between Jaz and the little girl, deciding who would become the sacrificial offering.

Full story from the info I've collected. Before that: theres some info you need to know from the movie to understand this game. Mother buddha: A demon entity that is worshipped by the Chen village, her specialty is causing ulcers/holes/rashes in the people affected by her curse. She accepts human offerings time to time to stay calm. The hand gesture: It is the reverse of a buddhist hand gesture which originally is supposed to "receive" blessings, the reverse is to "send" curses. The chant: You're practically saying that you're taking part in the curse and are going to give up your name. The name: Once your name is offered up to mother buddha, you must not ever say it or think it, or use it anymore. Doing so will result in the curse being rampant on you. Now onto the story behind the game: The protagonist, Jazmine, Jaz for short is looking for her missing daughter, she comes to this creepy village with, or rather is lured in by, the officer. Jaz believes that her child was kidnapped by the hospital and looks through the village for her child. Shes constantly attacked by the people affected by the curse all screaming "Its you!" etc. Jaz is actually the child of Great Aunt An who sent her away due to the sacrifical rituals of the people who thought that she is the celestial child and should be offered up, the village slowly went crazy after she left so many people believe that it is Jaz who is the celestial child. Celestial child is the child of mother buddha whose offering would stop the village from the curse after the ghost busters (from the movie) messed with the tunnel and unleashed the curse, this is further proven to be canon as when the protag of the movie visits the village again, six years later, its abandoned and everyone is dead. The celestial child is typically known to be missing an ear, hence why everyone who offers a child cuts their ear off first, but the child must've been born with only one ear, so the sacrifices do not work. Now let me type of the plot from what I've pieced together: Jaz's child, Mia, was born missing one ear, or rather it wasnt developed, possibly making her the celestial child. And its confirmed when the chold develops ulcers (when walking through the memory lane, you can hear people say "she waited this long?" "the body has begin to rot" etc), it means Jaz did not take the baby to the hospital until the condition got worse, the hospital makes her sign a consent form which isn't out of the normal actually, if a patient is dying and they cannot save them hospitals typically make you sign a form, like "Do Not Resuscitate" due to the fact that death is more merciful than living in such a terrible conditions. She signs it. Her child, Mia, is dead and is given back her. Filled with guilt (because it was actually her fault that Mia died, she waited too long before taking her to the hospital), Jaz likely goes insane and wraps her up and keeps her in her home. The relic being in the crib is a foreshadowing. The relic is baby Mia, wrapped up. The timelime gets messy but Its seems that Jaz has convinced herself that her child isnt dead, while everyone around her knew otherwise and called her crazy, officer will is a resident of the village, he finds Jaz and realises that she was the child that Great Aunt An sent away, and he believes her to be the celestial child, so to lure her back in to save his daughter and sacrifice Jaz, he likely took the baby relic and placed it in the village and lured her back in there. And then the gameplay follows. The curse causes her to hallucinate very badly, at the end, the walk down the memory lane is nothing but Great Aunt An leading her down the tunnel, she's reminded of her past and burdened heavily, filled with desperation. The cyclops is the manifestation of the great Aunt leading her down to the tunnel, who she ends up killing. Which is why Aunt An is dead. And then she offers up the relic, her dead daughter, Mia. To the Mother Buddha, ending the curse over the village, but its already too late since everyone is dead. She believes that the fake Mia is her daughter due to her delusion and hallucinations and denial of accepting the truth. The fake Mia is a manifestation of Mother Buddha, the girl is protected by Mother Buddha. Jaz thinks that she is her daughter, still living in denial but just happy to have found her "daughter" At the end the fake Mia says "Li Ruonan, Chen LeTong" which are the names of the protagnists of the move incantation, this game's timeline takes place shorty after the movie's flashback of the main protag being pregnant and leaving the village. In the movie, the fake Mia is found barely alive six years later, near a hospital with the same markings all over her body, likely indicating that Mother Buddha's curse is still strong due to the fact that the movie protag revived it once again when she got back her child (who was abandoned at birth cause her mom was scared of the curse). I'm not gonna type out the entire movie plot but yeah. Edit: some background info about the curse and mother buddha and additional info: the more widespread the curse is, the less impactful it is, the closer you are to the curse, the more you'll be affected by it. If the curse is spread to many people, their misfortune is diluted, say, suffering from literal ulcers/holes in your body to losing your keys once in a while. The misfortune is still there even when mother buddha's curse wasn't that strong, it was when the ghost busters in the movie mess around and enrage mother buddha is when the village suffers from her rage. They use the celestial child in this game to calm the rage, not to fully cure the curse cause the entity itself is a demon

We are Jaz, great aunt is our mother, she sent us out from the village many years ago because she wants to protect us not to be offered to the mother Buddha. While the kid is just a celestial child who wish to have a mother, so she kept calling us mum. At the end of the game, the kid is calling Li Ruo Nan and Chen Le Tong, Li Ruo Nan is the main character of the movie Incantation, she went to Chen Village and met the celestial child too but she refused to be her mother. So, the girl wants to revenge by giving her name and her daughter's name to the mother Buddha.

I've noticed that Great Aunt An appeared in the movie, as well as the little girl, who now I'm confused if it's Mia or not, if Mia is truly dead... What I thought was that maybe the events in the game happens some time after the events that happened in the movie... Another thing: Given the context of the real life case that inspired the movie (which was considered a case of shared psychosis/mass hysteria), the flowers have something to do with a lot of the things there... as a person who watched the movie, there is some scenes where the game didnt put it in and i was also confused when watching this whole gameplay. ill say the mother was cursed because when she was pregnant (based on the movie) she visited the chen village with the ghost hunter friend and her boyfriend and when an old uncle showed them (the 3 of them) around the place, one of the three stepped on a silk worm (which was an offering for the so called Mother-Buddah) and later the worm haunted their resting room in the village. (just one note, this is just the first part of the movie and i can confirm that the person who created this game is either not clear of the movie or is trying their best to concise the story as there is many add ons (new stuff, character, and actions) in the game.) oh yeah this movie is based on a true story.

Wa that was a rollercoaster I've read about the film story but haven't watched it Here's a take from the game (spoiler, idk how many lines needed to hide What I read from the film (Approx~ sorry From the film, we get that mother buddha is a malevolent entity that huh, curses people, but only if they say out loud the mantra. The mother, Li Ronan, tries to share the curse with as many people as she can so that she alleviates her daughter curse, Chen Le-Tong (or Dodo). From the game, I believe only the setting of mother buddha and the small village are kept. It's the "not so origin" story of the film. I think "Mia" the baby was cursed, as she kinda died by rotting, which is a sign of the curse. Somehow the mom is safe - but maybe it was thanks to aunt An. Indeed, it seems they are related. It was also hinted some could escape the curse by leaving/abandonning the village (what the mom and son wanted to do but couldn't). So the mother escaped the village and the curse, but her child couldn't do so. And she kinda became crazy from the shock of loosing her baby. That's why she sees aunt An as a monster that wants to take her baby away. The mother keeps searching for Mia, and meets the policeman who brings her in the village. Why? I have no idea. But maybe he recognized her from the village, and they somehow need "natives" to be here from the ritual (maybe hoping she could share the curse?). As a matter of fact, the policeman is in a similar situation as the mom in the film: his daughter is dying from the curse, and only by sacrificing the "celestial child" can she be cured. In the meantime, maybe he hopes to lessen the burden. But it fails, as we see she dies later in the game. Regarding the "celestial child", I believe it's a manifestation of mother buddha. She may bear resemblance with a taller "Mia", but she's way too sus. She is seeing praying, and encourage the mother to pray with her - hence sharing the curse. She also targets the weakness of the mother, calling her mom, and instilling doubt that she could actually is her daughter. She's also wayyy to ok with the whole sacrifice - could be argued it's a cult thing tho. I believe that, since it's a manifestation, it may have "human" desires, such as having a mom. She also wants to heal her fake mom, by accepting to be sacrificed. But in the end, it wants to keep spreading the curse, by stopping the sacrifice (and making the mom chant the mantra). What makes it kinda sure is the end: At the end of the game, "Mia" gets a mother, and is seen chanting Li Ronan and Chen Le-Tong names. Reminder: Ronan is the mother in the film, and Le-Tong her daughter. "Mia" is scribling Le-Tong (Dodo, the daughter), and it's, imo, a premonition of the film: Dodo will be cursed by mother buddha, and the mom will help spread the curse.

I think Mia is dead from the start, but the MC just in a state of denial that she believe that her daughter was kidnapped. And I think the relic are Mia, cause that's what the aunt means when she said that's what we looking for, and I think the one eye monster in the end was not the bad guy and might actually be the aunt,and it wants the mc to forget everything but she strongly fight back and kill the monster. (That's why we saw the aunt laying dead beside us when we wake up), And I think that girl was not our Mia, but she want a mother, by not sacrificing her and let her live, getting us crazy and thinking she is our daughter is actually her wish from the mother buddha. (This might be irrelavant, but asking what the MC name in the middle of the game is so she can wish that we think her as our daughter, that's why in the ending she keeps on repeatly calling the mc name)
