I'm a firm believer that only American citizens should be allowed to buy property, houses, or businesses. If you are not a citizen then you can rent or lease, I'm fine with that but this is America and it should be owned only by Americans.

@@BuckeyeFan-ty4vr Builders need jobs too, but the inner cities need to be rehabilitated. Rebuild the slum land and give people a better place to live and they won't need the farm land. I agree with Chuck ...our greed could be our down fall as a nation, if we don't protect the farm land.

That is BS and you know it. I have a green card, was looking into becoming a citizen. The only difference is, you can vote. After Carter gave up the election before California even voted, after I see, how American citizens are abused by politicians vs ILLEGALS. I have every right to spend my hard earned money as I see fit. I bought a ranch. I am putting it into a trust, NEVER to be sold for anything but farming.. my childre contibute to society, bever on welfare, we are a military family, we bring skills and knowledge to the table.I feed people,I farm and ranch. How about supporting farmers/ ranchers instead of making non citizens tgmge boogey man. I am more patriotic than many so called Americans, who are only out for a fast buck.

It is important to us to keep farming the land and keeping it in our family. Especially here in California. Good video, couldn’t agree with you more!

Thank You, Thank You, you are exactly right. we say it every day. just here in stokes county all you have to do is drive through King, what was once beautiful farm land is now housing developments. when I first saw the title I was like humm? wonder what this is going to be about. But wow you knocked it out of the park. A message like this needs to be said because my goodness if North Carolina continues to do what its doing there really isn't going to be any farmland left. while its nice that we have a really good economy here in NC it comes with a cost. And its very sad to see all these old family farms just get sold off like they never meant a thing. I personally don't see how someone could sell grandpas farm to a developer and keep a clean conscious but I'm starting to think we're a dying breed

In my neck of the woods, SE Michigan, our farmland is being gobbled up by "clean energy". Locally, we the people, are trying to fight off these huge solar companies that are coming in making deals the landowners can't refuse. Many cases of conflicts of interest with landowners that have a connection to, or are in local governments. The solar companies offer them $1500/acre to lease for 20+ years. Thats 15 million dollars for a 500 acre piece of land over the 20 years. But what the uninformed do not know is the environmental impact that it will have for decades to come. Not to mention the property value of all the surrounding properties. Folks, industrial solar farms are not the rainbows and unicorn farts that the skinny jean wearing folks will tell you it is. Pay attention to what your local governments are up to. They are as corrupt as the rest of our governments.

I don't know how ill keep it and don't really want to. Population on my road is 10x what it was 5 years ago. If I sell we will buy a farm further out. May be no choice. See all of our tax value has gone up. You have 100 acres, a farmers dream, a 5 generation family farm. You are who the farmers we are talking about. Why would you buy a farm further out? Why would you farm after making millions and millions for the farm you own now? No farmer can afford what you will ask so it will only go to developers, unless you make it affordable. There is always a choice. Put it in a land trust to protect it, they will pay you. Then if that is not ebough to fill your pockets then sell it. A least then the land will be protected.

Well made points here. I think there are a few heavy drivers for the farmland disappearing this way: 1. Increase in taxes. 2. Divergence between home pricing and median income. - Probably has to do with going off the gold standard, inflation, and home size. 3. Consumerism. - home sizes have generally increased and people want/expect larger homes and pricing themselves out of more land.

Urban sprawl wanted to start building like you’re talking about & the citizens flooded the city council meetings, mayors office, etc. and prevented all growth except a gas station at their one freeway off-ramp! Greg Judy just purchased a 100+ acres from a developer that was destined to have 30 homesites on prime pasture land. Luckily the developer couldn’t get the water as easily as he expected so was willing to sell 👏🤎

we're currently looking for land in Washington state to raise livestock on. Nearly every piece of farmland we look is already owned by big finance firms. Most of these parcels are for sale at prices 500-1000% higher than those firms bought the property for only 2-3 years ago. They find farms before they hit the market, buy em up, then turn them into smaller 10-20 acre lots and sell them to people in the cities who end up building Airnbnbs or weekend homes on the land. There really ought to be a law... I hate to say it, but the only way to preserve farmland is to restrict it's use for development. European countries do that. You can't just buy farmland in The netherlands or germany and build a subdivision. It's nearly impossible. They decided a century ago to protect farmland and restrict urban development. That's why you don't see 4000sq ft homes on 5 acre lots in Denmark! If you bring up the very idea of restricting private property rights in the USA, you end up plssling a lot of people off. I honestly don't think Americans, especially boomers, have it in them to support the type of property restrictions necessary to save the land.

Yes, urban sprawl is definitely taking thousands of acres of prime farmland all across the country. It's bad in the Midwest, but even worse in the coastal and southern states. People would be surprised at how much of our land is owned by foreign corporations and citizens. If we were to remove the ability of foreign companies to purchase land here, it would be devastating to our economy (what's left of it anyway). Foreign countries invest a lot into our country in tax revenue and employ a lot of workers. With that said, I do think we need some restrictions on who can buy and limits on how much they can own as well as for what purpose. No foreign company or country should be able to control the majority of any market sector like China does our pork industry for one example. There should be a limit to how much a single foreign company can own and a limit to how much land the companies from a single country combined can own. We used to have laws in place to protect us against both foreign and domestic monopolies, but this globalist movement tricked the population by pushing their "bigger corporations are more efficient which leads to lower prices and allows our companies to compete globally" crap. The key to capitalism is competition because competition forces efficiency which leads to lower prices. Our government started choosing the winners and losers and allowing the big corps to gobble up all their competition and now they can charge whatever they want and produce inferior products and nobody is holding them accountable. Today, it is these huge corporations and the extremely wealthy like Billy G who are buying up the bulk of the agricultural land in the western states. In their climate scam they will remove the land from production in exchange for their carbon credits. Many are even selling off the water rights to the land which is destructive to the land and will prevent it from being used for agriculture in the future. They get to claim they're giving it back to nature to save the planet, but without the natural water cycles it will change the climate for the worst. It is also giving them control of our food production which allows them to force us onto their fake food. The green movement has been hijacked by corporations and globalist freaks who with destroy it to empower and enrich themselves further. But never fear because the globalist have a much more sinister plan for us. By the end of this year, just the gotaways that crossed our southern border will outnumber our active military members by a quarter of a million. No joke. This doesn't include any of the "migrants" that have been processed into the country without any need for proper ID or credentials. These are just those who were seen and evaded our law enforcement. How many weren't seen? Why would anyone skip all the wonderful freebies Biden offers through his welcoming committee at the border? Think about that.

There was a man just down the road from me that owned probably around five acres and the city wanted to come out this way he refused to go into the city so it stopped them he died and his kids sold all the property now the city I am in the city because we voted yes there's like five houses on our road we voted yes to go into the city because they promised us city sewer and most accepted fields around here are no good so what happened to our city sewer we still haven't got it after probably 10 years they just bypassed us because it wasn't enough houses on this road we're third while so here now I'm in the city dealing with all the city rats that are all over my property seven years ago we never had any rats here but now there's hundreds of them I can look out at my cameras last year and see 50 60 rats running around my yard eating my garden destroy my house and these rats are the same size as a Chihuahua dog they're huge they can jump three feet I had to put 10 all around my edge of the rafters of my house so they couldn't get up to my roof but they still find a way and they're destroying my house I couldn't sell this I was if I tried because they've chewed wires apart in the walls the installation up there is all blowing in installation and so covered in rat poop rat P so now I'm tried all of the traps that man makes and that'll work because Roger too smart once they're getting caught once or twice in a trap they will not go into that trap I watched the young ones that run through my pallets I have standing up going around my garden where I put the traps they run right through it so fast they set the traps off and come back and eat the bait so all this winter I've been using poison yeah no one likes poison but you know what when it comes down to my garden in my house I'm going to poison tired of it now you don't see rats at night I go through $150 a month on rat poisoning so this summer I may be able to have some of my garden they eat all my beats they ate all my carrots they ate all my cherry tomatoes they chewed on all my turnips

Reality is, its work 7 days, and no one gets rich being a farmer. There are far more high paying jobs out there, with better benefits and vacation. At the end of the day, someone has too! We are biting the very hand that is feeding us.

The county that I live in wants housing so they tax the farmland into selling. We are having millions more people to house and feed from all over the world.

You just totally summarized the issue in my province of Ontario, and sorry it's a totally conservative government ravaging our enevironmetal areas and farmland with graft front and center.

Urban sprawl and suburban sprawl have been happening forever. I don't think there's any way out of it. Also, there are simply more people on Earth and they have to live somewhere.

Maybe change your video title to "WE are SELLING our farmland!" It would be more accurate to your point in the video.

This is not China's fault. The US sells farmland to multiple countries, which makes it difficult for citizens to purchase farmland. They are making it difficult for the new generation to become farmers. Plus, in 2023, at least 81 bills banning Chinese ownership of U.S. land were introduced across 33 states. According to a USDA Farm Service Agency report, of all foreign-owned U.S. land, Canadian investors owned the most at 12.8 million acres. This makes up 31% of all foreign-owned U.S. land. Four other countries held 12.4 million acres combined, or another 31% of foreign-owned land: the Netherlands (12%), Italy (7%), the United Kingdom (6%), and Germany (6%). China holds less than 1%. The remaining 15.6 million acres are split up among around 100 other countries, including India, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.

I see the angle, but as a Canadian I can say between our countries, I just don't care how many Americans buy up Canadian land. You folk are good folk, just like us. I will point out that this issue is even more problematic than just China or Bill Gates...many banks and insurance companies will specifically state on contracts, on Agricultural designated land "No Farming" This practice should absolutely 💯 % be made illegal.

This is our problem in FL. We are an hour away from our closest big city. And they are growing closer and closer to us. Not with new farms but new subdivisions at one acre plots and apartments.

The thing is if things keep going the direction they are there will be no farm life to show. See like mentioned in another comment, Eventually the taxes and traffic get to the point that the farmer or landowner is forced to move out. While you might not want to hear about it the simple fact is something is going to have to be done to save our farms

Isn't selling off the land to developers the very essence of capitalism? Shouldn't the people who own the land have the option? Apologies, you lost me at saying something as stupid as calling California "Commiefornia".

I farm in PA and have to lease land. I can't find anyone that wants to sell large acreage at a reasonable price. I do certified organic and regular land takes 3 years to certify. So it's impossible to pay $15k-$20k an acre then not plant for 3 years. Prices are insane and federal grant money is in the wrong places
