A lot of French people are weird and judgmental, but you will find normal ones as well, don't get too discouraged.

Some French people have difficulty understanding French Canadian. Sometimes they will try to reply to you in English . Use "bonjour" or "salut." If you start with "allo," for some people it feels like you're saying "hello". Maybe try to find someone from Quebec to speak to you in French if you can; it will help you.

I have been to Lake Toba on my honeymoon, and it is really one of the most beautiful places on earth. One tip is to take the ferry to the island. There is a huge market, and traditional Batak houses. On the way to Lake Toba, you will encounter lots of monkeys at the side of the road too. And that Chinese couple, that is a BEAST of a computer! That was really a wholesome conversation!
