Florence Griffith Joyners 100 & 200m world records have stood for 35 years. But these last few years we've seen the strongest women's 100m depth in history, with 3 contenders clearly standing at the top.
00:00 Intro
00:51 - Elaine Thompson-Herah
03:03 - Sha'Carri Richardson
05:09 - Shericka Jackson
06:53 - THE GOAT
07:47 - Conclusion

The 100m will be nearly impossible to beat as it was wind aided. If anyone does beat it the will have to be at altitude, have a very fast track and the wind will have to be the maximum allowable.

200m could go anytime as Shericka Jackson has now pulled off a 21.45 & a 21.41. If there was closer to 2.0 m/s tailwind in the 21.41 race that would've been the WR. The 100m isn't going anytime soon because of the faulty wind gauge. Flo-jo's actual best is 10.61. So that's already 3rd fastest all-time, then take what a 10.61 runner can run with a ~+5.0 m/s tailwind & you get 10.49. So even Sha'Carri at 10.65 has no chance unless she also gets to run with a faulty wind gauge honestly. Sha'Carri may surpass Flo-jo's 10.61 & SAFPs 10.60 to become the real 2nd fastest person in history behind only ETHs 10.54. I think Sha'Carri has that potential, but 10.49 may be borderline humanely impossible since it's with ~+5.0 m/s wind.
@tool2158
@tool2158 8 ай бұрын
Ok, let’s ignore the 10.49. But wind-converted FloJo’s 10.61 would still be better than Shelly’s 10.60.
@richardgallimore5976
@richardgallimore5976 8 ай бұрын
@@tool2158 Fair, Flo-jo's equates to a 10.68 with 0 wind & SAFPs converts to a 10.69 with 0 wind. However, SAFPs best run converted is her 10.65 in Zurich 2022 into a -0.8 headwind which adjusts to a 10.59. As a side note ETHs best is technically not her 10.54 with a +0.9 wind (10.59 0 wind equivalent), but her 10.61 at the Tokyo Olympics into a -0.6 wind which equates to 10.57 with no wind. Given these statistics I think both ETH & SAFP would run faster than 10.49 with the amount of wind that is estimated to have been in that race.
@tool2158
@tool2158 8 ай бұрын
Ok. But both of them have several advantages compared to Flojo: faster tracks, better shoes, competition against each other (Flojo had none of that), more races per year (=more chances, people easily forget about that one, no Diamond League back then). I know these points are not ones people are fond of discussing but I believe with all those factors mentioned Flojo could have improved easily on her 10.61 and 21.34.
@richardgallimore5976
@richardgallimore5976 8 ай бұрын
@@tool2158Potentially, but she left the sport after that very successful year, so we'll never know. For me 10.61/21.34 one year doesn't = GOAT status, compared to a 10.60/21.79 with gold medals 14 years apart & compared to 10.54/21.53. Well I guess I do find her closer to ETH. ETH has the fastest wind legal 100m if we don't count the 10.49, but less medals than SAFP, similar to Flojo in the 200m. For me SAFP is the GOAT of the 100m, but it's not undisputed. A 10.53 would cement that in my eyes as I don't count 10.49 as the true WR. Flo-jo or ETH is the best 100/200 combination, that ones close. Flo-jo's peak is considered better especially converted to modern track times as you were saying. Then Flo-jo or Jackson is the 200m GOAT, I'm not sure who, Flojo only ran under 21.5 once, Shericka has done it twice & has 3 of the fastest top 5 times & more medals, however 0.07 off the WR, close, but no cigar.

@@richardgallimore5976 This equals that...this is pure speculative BS. You can't just compare only the wind in two different races. They are way other parameters involved than only the wind speed. That's why there is a speed limit and that's why only the final result matters !
@stevie586

Just as a side note, many speculate FloJo used HGH. MOST of the best athletes are using Testosterone, ProNan, HGH, etc., but careful with their cycles. However, even if Flojo were using it back then, HGH was actually not tested, as well as legal for use during that time. Also, the claim of ShaCarri and Shelly is incorrect…no one in history ShaCarri’s age except Marion Jones has run the times she is running. Regarding the timing, I think Shericka is very close to the world record and to beat FloJo she will need to accomplish the same FloJo has always had over everyone..the top speed maintenance in the final stage. I think FloJo held something back somewhere, or in other words, did what Michael Johnson does and evenly distribute speed over the distance. Shelly isn’t gonna get the record. It’s either gonna be Elaine or Shericka. ShaCarri can get the 100M record and she also can get the 200M record, but needs more strength and endurance for that event.

@@samanimations2002 you know, after seeing so much, I don’t know how many are clean, but I am learning most of the top athletes are doping. But it’s not like the old steroids that make them faster…it’s stuff that gives them more endurance to train harder and recover faster, and so many are using PEDS it is kinda “fair competition”. Marion Jones breaks my heart because they gave her dope when she didn’t need it…she and Sha’Carri had nearly identical talent! Regarding Sha’Carri, I pray she is clean, as she clearly has the top talent and she doesn’t need to Dope! It will break my heart if what happened to Marion happens to her because they are champions either way and deserve the titles, as proven by her entire life accomplishments in the sport. So many in the sport are doping they do not care, but when it hits public certain individuals get singled out and shamed when it’s waaaaay more than you think doing it! I pray Sha’Carri stays clean. By the way, to credit your point, Sha’Carri is running very consistent times and is progressing at a rate that appears very natural to me. She didn’t run 11.5 then suddenly 10.5 (look at some of the Jamaican progression and you’ll be shocked a the huge dips in the middle of nowhere early career, and even recently). ShaCarri isn’t consistently running 10.5’s and also, she sometimes messes up. To further that, she shows some weakness in the 200M. Dope would have her with all kinds of endurance she hasn’t shown me.

I was on a state championship track team in high school and our best sprinter broke the world's record's 100 at the state meet, but the officials were in such a state of shock, that 30 minutes later they claimed he jumped the gun, which he didn't, but their biased against a 17-year-old holding the world's record was so strong, they robbed him of a major achievement.
