Sometimes we have to "estrange ourself" from them. The language of Myers and Briggs calls this *a door slam". I did this with my father. He died 3 years later, and I didn't go to his funeral either. I did this with a life long friend that showed herself through a torturous series, in less than a week, of mind f u c k s that turned all those years into a lie. And through broken hearted tears I spoke my heart, told her what she did and how I felt. I didn't label her. I didn't need to label her, because she knew everything about my father, what he had and done and said to me and my mother and what I thought and how I felt about him. He was a Narcissist. But she stood there silent with a dead blankness as she looked me in the eye. When I was done I told her to leave and she turned and left.
