הוא מתעב ונדחה על ידי גברים, איש של צער ומכיר יגון. והסתרנו, כביכול, פנינו מפניו; הוא היה בוז, ולא הערכנו אותו. 4 אמנם הוא נשא את יגוננו ונשא את יגוננו; ובכל זאת הערכנו אותו מוכה, מוכה על ידי אלוהים, ומצוק. אבל הוא נפצע על פשעינו, הוא נפגע על עוונותינו; העונש על שלומנו היה עליו, ובפסיו נרפא. כל מה שאנו אוהבים כבשים תעו; פנינו, כל אחד, לדרכו; והשם עליו ה' את עוון כולנו. הוא היה נדכא והוא נגע, אבל הוא לא פתח את פיו; הוא הובל ככבש לשחיטה, וכצאן לפני גוזזו שותק, כך לא פתח את פיו. הוא נלקח מהכלא ומן הדין, ומי יגיד על דורו? כי הוא נכרת מארץ החיים; על פשעי עמי הוא נפגע. 9 ועשו את קברו עם הרשע אבל עם העשיר במותו כי לא עשה אלימות ולא הייתה מרמה בפיו.
